Obama’s Image is Losing its Luster–Everywhere

It’s been nearly 5 months since the tyrannical Mullahcracy ruling Iran crushed pro-democracy street demonstrations protesting a seriously flawed election, which gave that country’s seriously flawed President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, an undeserved victory.

Amy Goodman, the Marxist host of the seriously flawed Democracy Now! network, has reported that the Iranian regime is at it again. While marking the thirtieth anniversary of the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran (an event which is celebrated annually in that country), Goodman noted that:

Iranian security forces reportedly beat opposition protesters marching in central Tehran.

Now, this celebratory extravaganza, sponsored by the Iranian Government to officially commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the 1979 takeover of the embassy—where fifty-two Americans were held hostage for 444 days (with, it is widely believed, Ahmadinejad himself being one of the hostage takers)—was a big deal to the mullahs; and they had warned their population weeks in advance that any attempts to disrupt or overshadow the festivities would not be tolerated.

Before things got out of hand, the usual anti-American speeches were being made outside the former American embassy. When the main speaker, hard-line lawmaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel took to the podium, something surprising yet not entirely unexpected happened: the lawmaker immediately attacked the President of the United States.

In one fell swoop, the Iranian regime made it completely clear that, despite Barack Obama’s mea culpa tour of Europe and the Middle East earlier this year; and despite the extension of rhetorical olive branches, the Iranians still think of the United States as “the main enemy of Iran.”

There was no mention of any thawing of relations, no kind words for the American savior-of-the-world currently occupying the White House, no mention of any potential talks on the horizon—there was nothing at all.

The lawmaker may as well have been talking about George W. Bush. In fact, earlier in the week, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei angrily declared that Obama was “no different from his predecessor.”

And then, something really interesting happened.

Over at the pro-democracy opposition rally, demonstrators were also making speeches, and those speeches were also speeches of condemnation—of Barack Obama!

The crowd, voicing its frustration over the supposed leader of the free world’s less than enthusiastic support of their efforts at trying to free themselves from the yoke of an oppressive government, was fervently chanting:

Obama, Obama — either you’re with them or you’re with us!

Pity the pro-democracy Iranians. They had high hopes for him, but are now just starting to realize that Barack Obama is also seriously flawed.
