Liberal Idiocy on Fort Hood – by David Horowitz

David Horowitz was one of the founders of the New Left in the 1960s and an editor of its largest magazine,Ramparts. He is the author, with Peter Collier, of three best selling dynastic biographies: The Rockefellers: An American Dynasty (1976); The Kennedys: An American Dream (1984); and The Fords: An American Epic (1987). Looking back in anger at their days in the New Left, he and Collier wrote Destructive Generation (1989), a chronicle of their second thoughts about the 60s that has been compared to Whittaker Chambers’ Witness and other classic works documenting a break from totalitarianism. Horowitz examined this subject more closely in Radical Son (1996), a memoir tracing his odyssey from “red-diaper baby” to conservative activist that George Gilder described as “the first great autobiography of his generation.”

Why is it that when a so-called liberal opens his mouth about the Ft. Hood massacre by a Muslim jihadist I know that I’m going to feel less safe? The corrupt mayor of Chicago (and presidential patron) blames the shooting of 41 soldiers — at the deployment center for the wars against Muslim jihadists in Afghanistan and Iraq — on the alleged fact that “America loves guns.”

As if the traitor Hasan had not clearly and unequivocally renounced his American citizenship and declared war on his own country because it was not a Muslim state. As if there were not in fact NO GUNS ALLOWED on the Fort Hood base, which is why his soldier (!) victims were unarmed and therefore someone didn’t shoot him dead after his first blast. What is wrong with American so-called liberals that they proudly expose themselves in public as idiots when it comes to the holy Muslim war that has been declared against us? That they just don’t get it? And they don’t.

The New York Times website devoted a whole column to summarizing the debate on the “motives” of the traitor, including a sampling from this blog, which provides a good picture of the mush that has replaced the brains of such otherwise respected leftwing pundits as the Atlantic’s James Fallows who wrote a column on the attack titled “The Meaninglessness of the Shootings.” Veteran leftist Michael Tomasky writes in the leftwing Guardian,

So if indeed Hasan was an America-hating extremist, what are we to make of it?

And concludes nothing. “America-hating extremist” would be an accurate description of some of Tomasky’s friends — perhaps former friends — at the Village Voice where he once worked. But it is hardly an adequate description of Hasan from what we already know. He thought of himself as a soldier in a global army that has declared war on Americans and Jews in the first place, but also on all infidels in the name of Islam. That puts a somewhat different color on it, Michael. This extremist said to an audience of doctors in university lecture (a military university no less) that those who do not believe in Islam should be beheaded and have boiling oil poured down their throats.

And liberals are too polite (too “politically correct”?) to notice. Actually it’s not polite that they are (they are actually quite rude) but in denial. And why is that? It is the same denial that progressives maintained through the 70 years of the Communist nightmare, denial that mass slaughters were being conducted by their Soviet comrades, that Russia and China were vast prison camps, and that the same fate awaited us in the West if we didn’t wage a cold war against their expansionist designs. It does sound familiar doesn’t it?

The only mystery is why progressives (so-called) like Tomasky and Fallows (and President Obama) should bend over backwards to protect medieval psychos — and I am speaking here of the tens of millions — of Muslims who idolize Osama Bin Laden, Hamas, and Hezbollah and embrace their genocidal agendas. There is only one possible answer to this question and that is that, to one degree or another, leftists regard America as the Great Satan and Israel as the Little Satan or believe at the very least that the policies of these two countries are the real cause of the violence against them.

Norman Thomas (November 20, 1884 – December 19, 1968) was a leading
American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the
Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in
1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S., Norman Thomas said, in a
1944 epoch speech:
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of “liberalism”, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened..”
He went on to say:
“I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.”

“America loves guns.” Apparently not enough to let soldiers carry them on a military base. Thanks for the foresight, liberals.

David, the “liberals” are getting worse by the day. Their apologist tactics have become so feeble and transparent it only took the mainstream papers a few days to get down to the real journalistic task of investigating Hasan's obvious extremist ties.

Of course, they had to try to fake, pseudo-psychological stories first, just to see if they worked.

  • The_Inquisitor

Why do you say he went over the edge? He didn’t go over the edge; he calmly committed a premeditated act of violence to further the goals of Islam. To write off what he did as going over the edge is to ignore that we are at war with Islamic supremacists who quite rationally (given their premises) are willing to sacrifice their lives for their cause.

Why is it that these acts of mass murder are blamed on the greater society, where surprisingly most of us live without going off the rails, and not attributed to the defective and warped thinking of the shooter. I and my fellow law abiding citizens don't react like this to whatever problem we face. Let's face it, these off-the-rails nut-cases cannot blame society for making them carry out these heinous acts.
This is the same cowardice talk we hear from wife-beaters saying, “She made me do it”. When will we attribute blame to the person carrying the gun and not allay guilt on society. My society is ok. Whether being Muslim is a factor in sending this guy over the edge is not conclusive, but it sure looks like another extremist act by a Muslim.

Dear David Horowitz,You didn't conclude your article about our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Either you agree with the Bush/Obama/Cheney/Biden extremely liberal, extremely tax-raising for our fellow-Americans, the agenda to 'nation build' those nations. To build new highways, hospitals, schools, medical centers, new mosques and so on and so forth.Americans who agree with this very liberal concept of nation building are essentially friends of jihadists and the Chinese whom we are borrowing too much money from. Why does the GOP want health care for all Afghanis and Iraqis but not for all Americans?GWBush's biggest mistake of all was to instruct our troops to treat the Christian Iraqis no different than the Shi'ites and Sunnis, the very liberal concept that all religions are alike. Predictably, this led to the Muslim slaughter of too many Christians. The ones who weren't rounded up and genocided escaped to Syria, Lebanon and Israel. These were the same 10% of the Iraqi population that Hussein had protected for decades. Why was Bush afraid to say that these Iraqi Christians are our brothers and sisters? By stating that the US Commander-in-Chief believed that Christians are the same as Islamists and jihadis, what a horrible message we sent to our enemies. We should have given these Christians a free, one-way trip to America. And we could have used their linguistic talent for our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, to translate for us. They would have been happy to do that for us……then, we wouldn't be discussing the terror which took place at Ft Hood. Now, we should create as much damage as possible in those nations, for every American killed or wounded even with a failed attempt, we should blow up a mosque, regardless of whether we built it for them or not. We should keep a small force of soldiers there with translators they can trust and slowly get out of our longest wars in history.

And it also was a fault of all of his opponents, of course.

I blame it on a lack of guns among soldiers there…………….Only an armed person can stop armed killer.

Thank you for pointing it! Here are some “friendly reminders” from that article:

Sgt Hasan Akbar, for instance, killed two of his officers and wounded 14 other soldiers when he rolled a grenade into their tent during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, which he said was anti-Muslim.

Sgt Ali Mohamed became Osama bin Laden's driver and admitted he helped al-Qaida bomb US embassies in Africa, killing more than 200 people.

Navy signalman Massan Abujihaad, Army specialist Ryan Anderson and Army reservist Semi Osman were each convicted for helping al-Qaida, and Marine Abdul Raheem al Arshad Ali trained at a suspected al-Qaida camp.

Then there was Army sniper John Muhammad, who murdered 10 civilians in 2002 in what his accomplice described as a “jihad”.

Or consider the terrorism attacks planned by Muslim American civilians on US troops, such as the plot by five men in 2007 to kill soldiers at Fort Dix, or the gunning down of two soldiers in Arkansas by a convert five months ago.

When and how did you come to the conslusion that Obama is an apologist for Islam?

  • bushlikesdick12

The Hasan Akbar case is very similar to this latest incident at Fort Hood.

Both men claim to be constantly harrassed and punked. Both came to the conclusion, based on the attitudes of their comrades in uniform, that the military is out to subjugate Muslim people in their own country through rape, murder, and other means.

Both men appear to have a degree of mental illness.

The fallacy in the claim that Muslims can not be trusted in the military is based on the Islamic principles of these two men only.

Combined with emotional and verbal abuse, mental illness is probably the most common attribute to violent outbursts.

Based on the fact the Hasan Akbar was the only black man and only Muslim in his company gave fertile ground for prejudice behavior towards him.

He was denied orders to Iraq based on his eratic behavior ( mental illness)

His mental illness was inflammed by the harrassment he was receiving along with the rejection from his company.

All he has left is his principles.

So who is responsible? For the most part, Hasan Akbar, but the U.S. Army shares some of it.

Our attitude cloaks the whole situation.

The US is going the way of England…passive, PC, submissive idiots bowing and scraping before the mobs of screaming bearded zombies in dirty nightshirts….shrugging as cars are burned (France), doing nothing after trains are bombed (London), turning the other way when people are murdered (DC, Ft. Hood)…How can we have any security when these vermin are allowed in our military, on our campuses and businesses? The PC apologetics for Hasan and his ilk are transparent now. We are protecting thugs, murderers and maniacs in the misplaced ideal of diversity tolerance. Can you imagine if a US citizen had , in the 1940s, contacted the Nazi governement over 20 times, had lectured US citizens on why US soldiers should resist going to battle the Nazis , who promoted and adored the Nazis? SOmeone like this would have been arrested for treason. But Hasan was given a pass. Because of liberal idiocy, that's why. He should have been discharged from the military long ago. The shootings at Ft. Hood. were preventable.

Let us not forget the DC sniper case. Those perpetrators were Muslim extremists commiting acts of terror on American citizens. It was not reported as a terror attack for PC reasons and/or to keep the peace. But it was an Islamic attack, plain and simple. Just Wiki the cae and read the motives and evidence presented during trial.

Ann Coulter's sarcastic ridicule of the Liberal media's claim that Hassan has Post TSD was brilliant, as apparently Hassan as an army doctor counseled soldiers BEFORE they went to Iraq so they got it wrong,he must have contacted Pre TSD….. .

I want Hassan to be court martialed and to die by firing squad and we should bill the mosque for the bullet.

Well, duh, but that wasn't what led to the shooting of 41 soldiers. It was the fact that those soldiers couldn't even carry their own weapons across the base to the ready center. It's sad when the only people on base with guns were the MPs and the police woman that just happened to be passing through.

I would posit that if those 41 soldiers had happened to have their sidearms, they would have filled Hasan with so much lead that he'd have protection against radiation.

Has anyone ever noticed that when you get rid of weapons, the bad guys always seem to have them? That's why the 2nd amendment is so important. Not simply to give us guns, but to give us protection from a tyrannical government.

I don't believe that any of these men were able to successfully assert the defense of insanity. While it remains to be seen with this guy, so far, that defense didn't do very well.

We have military which is made up, now, of entirely volunteers. Oh, there might be some old retreads from my generation still out there who were originally drafted, but they have long since enlisted, many times over. When you join the military, you know that you may be utilized to kill people and break things, that's what you are for. You know you may not be able to pick your missions, and some of the killing and breaking you might now totally agree with. If you cannot accept those conditions, then you (not you specifically, but generic, “you”) should not enlist in the military in the first place. Also, anyone who has been around the block knows that military, by its nature, is not a place for the politically correct or sensitive, never was, is not, and never will be. These are rough men (and women sometimes), and they will always make fun of every racial and ethnic group imaginable, preferably the ethnic group/race, they are engaged against at the time, but if there is not one available, they will make one up. That is just the nature of G.I.s. So, it is up to the G.I., particularly an officer and a gentlemen, by an act of congress, to grow some “hard bark”. He may be a Moslem, Jew, Christian, etc. He may be of whatever descent/ethnic/ racial origin. He may be all those things, but they don't even rank a close second after he took that step forward and raised his right hand (voluntarily I will add again). He is an American soldier first and above all else, as long as he is in the military.

If a white Christian soldier walked into a mosque and gunned down dozens of people, I wonder if you're analysis would be that clearly he had snapped because he had friends that had been killed by Muslims in Iraq etc? Or would you be more inclined to label him a right wing terrorist. I have a pretty good idea where the media would come down on that one.

Most big cities are sheetholes, and Chicago, just happens to be one of the bigger ones. I don't know why he even spoke out. Sure, he is entitled to his opinion, but not “as the mayor” or as any other public official. He has a city that the producers are fleeing daily, and he knows it, but he also knows that he dare not say the real reason it is happening.

  • John C. Arens

Eldridge Cleaver (one of your old compatriots, David, from your Ramparts days), once made some soliloquy (more or less) along the lines that he could continue to be a rapist and have his sins atoned for by the war against innocent peasants in South Vietnam. This is perhaps the capstone of the incoherence of reductive Liberal philosophy: Someone a world away, in both cultural and real terms, can somehow atone for their sins, even without their permission — or even so much as a polite note asking their permission.

Because they reject any authoritarian Deity, and are spiritually immature, most of The New (and Post-New) Left will always need some one or thing to act as their spiritual redeemer, like Mr. Cleaver. This redeemer can be the repressed in Cuba, it can be the stone-age Muslim whack-case, it can be a gang-banging murderer in South Central–whatever. The main thing is that there will always be someone to pin their transgressions on because there will always be another victim. This is why the Left does rhetorical back-flips trying to exonerate the demonic barbarian that shot up Fort Hood. He's just their next spiritual redeemer, nothing more. Now the good liberal can just keep going on about his vacuous existence in his hedonistic cloud, accountable to no one, knowing his sins are forgiven.

  • Proxywar

Bushlikesdick. How clever. How mature. How intelligent.

I came to this conclusion because unlike you I've spent the last eight years studing the real enemy. Instead of participating in the mental gymnastics known as leftist syllogism.

    For example:

When President Barack Hussein Obama addressed the Islamic world from Cairo on June 4, 2009, he said: “As the Holy Koran tells us, 'Be conscious of God and speak always the truth' [Sura 9:119].
That is what I will try to do — to speak the truth as best I can, humbled by the task before us.”

Putting aside the fact that Sura 9, from whence obama quotes, contians the most violent and intolerant exhortations in all the Koran. The problem here is that the original Arabic text of Sura 9:119 says absolutely nothing about “speaking the truth.” The word “speaking” is nowhere in the text, and “truth,” as an abstract, is a wrong translation for sadiqin/sadiqeena, which refers to people. The verse most literally translates as “fear Allah and be with the truthful.” In other words, Muslims should stand firm with fellow Muslims (“truthful” serving as a Koranic epithet for “Muslims” the same way “believers” often does). It is, as ever, a call for divisiveness — of Muslims (the “truthful”) versus infidels (the “false”).

Arabic Transliteration: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ittaqoo Allaha wakoonoo maAAa alssadiqeena.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali: O ye who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are true (in word and deed).

Mufti Taqi Usmani: O you who believe, fear Allah, and be in the company of the truthful.

Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O ye who believe! Be careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful.

Sahih International: O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true.

That could be how I came to that conclusion, Mr.BUSHLIKESDICKS.
Or perhaps i'm just one of those evil, racist, know nothing tea-baggers Rachel Maddow warns you about every night on MSNBC. Use your own logic and then you be the judge.

  • liberalsqqalot

I agree with you Proxy. My point is the double standard. I guarantee that if a Christian did something like this the media would have labeled him a “right wing terrorist” from the first second. Although I don't consider myself a 'liberal', I know many who do. Yet I don't know anybody, left or right, that thinks the Fort Hood shooting was a good thing in any way. Now, I can understand being unhappy with Obama, but there is the undeniable fact that the conservatives were in such disarray that they couldn't come up with a viable opponent to the Democrats. Get it together. Instead of griping and finger pointing why don't the conservatives figure out what their platform is really all about? And don't let Michael Savage and Limbaugh put words in your mouth. Do it on the down low, figure out what you are really about and stop the name calling. Bush was in there for eight years and we still don't know whether or not he was AWOL from the air national guard. So let's forget about the blame game and move on. Get a candidate, get real, and take back your country based on your philosophy… or just accept the fact that Obama is president because you didn't know who you really were. And please… don't make us suffer through Sarah Palin. You are better than that. I hope.
