President Obama paid tribute yesterday to the victims of the Fort Hood massacre. Obama knows how to deliver a powerfully emotional speech and he did so on this occasion. But, as Lt. Col. Ralph Peters said on “The Factor” last night, the speech was full of boilerplate and it sidestepped the fact that the shooting was an act of Islamic terrorism.
The alleged shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was not some impulsive, stressed-out soldier who suddenly snapped. While he may not have been on al Qaeda’s payroll, he bought its ideology and executed it with deadly effect. He reportedly shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ (the jihadist mantra) right before starting his rampage.
Well before the massacre at Fort Hood, Hasan had been keeping in touch with his former radical imam, Anwar al-Awlaki, after the latter fled to Yemen and became a recruiter for al Qaeda. Al-Awlaki returned the favor, praising Nidal Hasan as a hero for killing the thirteen unarmed people at Fort Hood.
There were other clear warning signs of Hasan’s jihadist tendencies that the Army chose to ignore. For example, Hasan was reported to have posted a statement on the Internet equating suicide bombers with a U.S. soldier who sacrificed himself to save his fellow soldiers.
And, according to Colonel Terry Lee (Retired,) a former coworker who served with Hasan at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC., Hasan also praised the murder of two U.S. soldiers who were killed outside of a recruitment center in Little Rock, Arkansas:
This is what Muslims should do, stand up to the aggressors. Maybe we should have more of these, people should strap bombs on themselves and go into Times Square.
You don’t have to be the TV police detective whiz Lieutenant Columbo to put these and other similar pieces of evidence together and conclude that Hasan was driven by violent jihadist ideology. Yet the mainstream press, like the Obama administration, has ignored or played down these facts and still avoid the truth. Indeed, they prefer political correctness to the truth. Things have gotten so absurd that Chris Matthews even asked the other night whether it was a crime for Hasan to get in touch with al Qaeda. How about we start with the real possibility of giving aid or comfort to the enemy – i.e., treason?
The Obama administration has tied itself up in such politically correct knots that it has decided it won’t ever use the phrase “war on terror” or the term “jihad” in the context of describing Islamic-inspired violence against non-believers.
I guess that when Hasan shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’, with a gun ready to fire, he was just saying his daily prayers and the gun happened to go off.
Wake up, folks. The Islamic terrorist jihad is coming back to our shores big time. We are in a continuing war against terror, not a spurt of criminally insane acts.
