Harry Truman once famously observed:
If you don’t like the heat, get out of the kitchen.
The crew now inhabiting the Obama White House cannot even stand room temperature. It seems that Fox News is just raising the heat a bit too much for their tastes by challenging the administration on a number of key issues – the only TV station to do so on a regular basis. As Chris Wallace said on The Factor, the Obama team is made up of a bunch of whining crybabies.
Rather than address the issues head on and defend their positions on the merits under aggressive questioning, the Obama administration has sent out its heavy artillary in an effort to undermine Fox’s legitimacy as a news organization. It’s too bad that they are not going after the real problems facing this country with the same fervor.
First, we heard from Anita Dunn, Obama’s Communications Director and admirer of Chairman Mao’s philosophy. She said that the administration would treat Fox News like an “opponent” rather than a real news organization. I guess that she defines a real news organization the way that her idol Mao did – government-controlled. Indeed, control of the media is exactly what she and her comrades believe they have achieved – except for that pesky band of renegades at Fox News:
Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control.
Over the past weekend, David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel took their turns on the “mainstream” Sunday talk shows delivering the same line of attack against Fox News and suggesting that the other networks follow the administration in marginalizing Fox. When Richard Nixon tried similar tactics back in the days of Watergate and Vietnam, he was roundly criticized for trying to intimidate the press. Where is the outcry from the Fourth Estate now?
So what has Fox News done to evoke the ire of the Obama administration? Shockingly, it has done what the press is supposed to do in this country – challenge the veracity of government-dispensed spin.
Obama’s tendency to surround himself with far left-wing advisors who are in a position to influence his thinking is fair game. ACORN’s corruption is fair game. The administration’s claims that Obamacare will be deficit neutral and not ration care for the elderly are fair game. The administration’s claims to have rescued the economy in the face of a record trillion dollar plus deficit and 9.8% unemployment is fair game. The administration’s dithering in Afghanistan is fair game.
If this administration is too afraid to take up the challenges by Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity to respond to their criticisms on their programs, there is little hope that it will find any backbone in dealing with real threats coming from the likes of Iran, North Korea or Russia.
