Pawlenty to endorse Hoffman in NY 23
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will endorse Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party nominee who has gained significant traction in his special election battle against Republican Dede Scozzafava and Democrat Bill Owens.
Pawlenty joins two other prospective 2012 GOP presidential candidates, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who have endorsed Hoffman in recent days. Former GOP presidential contenders Fred Thompson and Steve Forbes have also endorsed Hoffman.
“We cannot send more politicians to Washington who wear the Republican jersey on the campaign trail, but then vote like Democrats in Congress on issues like card check and taxes,” Pawlenty said in a statement obtained by POLITICO. “After reviewing the candidates’ positions, I’m endorsing Doug Hoffman in New York’s special election. Doug understands the federal government needs to quit spending so much, will vote against tax increases, and protect key values like the right to vote in private in union elections.”
