“The Other 95%” = 100% Lies

From the department of throwing crap at the wall until something sticks: Progressives have now become enamored with the idea of tax cuts. A new campaign of dubious origin has emerged called, “The Other 95%.” Its credo: “95% of Americans received a tax cut from Obama. But most of us don’t know it! It’s a fact: Every one of us making under $250K got a tax cut in ‘09 & ‘10.”
I suppose it’s a good thing that, even though they’re still lying, liberals are now at least lying with the idea in mind that tax cuts are good for the American people. On the other hand, they’re still lying.
MSNBC reported last week that half of Americans pay no federal income tax.
We’ve heard this before — on the campaign trail in 2008, Obama promised a tax cut for “95% of workers.” The Wall Street Journal called him out on this back then: It’s a language game.
It’s a clever pitch, because it lets him pose as a middle-class tax cutter while disguising that he’s also proposing one of the largest tax increases ever on the other 5%. But how does he conjure this miracle, especially since more than a third of all Americans already pay no income taxes at all? There are several sleights of hand, but the most creative is to redefine the meaning of “tax cut.”
For the Obama Democrats, a tax cut is no longer letting you keep more of what you earn. In their lexicon, a tax cut includes tens of billions of dollars in government handouts that are disguised by the phrase “tax credit.”
A “credit” is not a “cut.” In order to cut something, there must be a something to cut. Otherwise, we’re merely — oh, how can I say this? — spreading the wealth around.
Usually when politicians are caught in such a blatant mischaracterization of the facts, they revise their rhetoric. Not Obama! The lie remains on his website. And if we’re to believe Joe Biden, it’s not even a patriotic lie. Five years ago, the highest form of patriotism was dissent. Now that the dissenters want their taxes cut, paying taxes is the patriotic thing to do — unless you’re poor (that is: in the bottom 95%) and pay no taxes (that is: about 47% of us), in which case you deserve to have your taxes cut. Got that?
