A “Credible and Legitimate” UN? Then Obama Should Bow to Harper and Netanyahu

The putrid fumes from Canada’s rejection at the UN Security Council circulated anew when Obama declared in India:

the United States seeks an “efficient, effective, credible and legitimate” United Nations…in the years ahead, I look forward to a reformed United Nations Security Council that includes India as a permanent member.

Obama bowed to an audience after giving his speech at Parliament House in New Delhi on Monday, adding another bow to a list that includes the Saudi King , the Japanese Emperor,  and Communist Chinese Leader Hu Jintao at the Nuclear Summit .

It is mystifying what “credible and legitimate” United Nations Obama was referring to.  As for India, it may be booming economically, but debased in its human rights violations which according to Amnesty International include “unlawful killings, excessive use of police force, torture, violence against women, discrimination against Dalits, and severe and pervasive poverty.”

Obama should be bowing to those who could actually bring “legitimacy and credibility” to the U.N. and contribute to much needed reform like  Benjamin Netanyahu–leader of the only democracy in the Middle East and Canada’s Stephen Harper–who represent true democratic values and refuse to be intimidated by the OIC.  Instead,  Netanyahu got a snub on his first visit to the White House while Canada also received a big snub from the Obama Administration when it needed support in its campaign for a UN Security Council seat from its closest ally.  Instead, Canada stood alone:

While the vote in the 192-member UN General Assembly is secret, broad opposition from members of the Islamic bloc appeared to have scuttled Canada’s chances of returning to the council for the 2011-12 two-year term.

The Harper government’s shift toward support for Israel compared with positions held by previous Liberal governments had not gone over well with members of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Conference, said officials based at the UN.

Indeed Harper has paid a price in standing for principle, which he reiterated during his remarks on Parliament Hill at an anti-Semitism Conference that included international parliamentarians.

… I have the bruises to show for it, that whether it is at the United Nations, or any other international forum, the easiest thing to do is simply to just get along and go along with this anti-Israeli rhetoric, to pretend it is just about being even-handed, and to excuse oneself with the label of ‘honest broker.’

Unfortunately building the “credible and legitimate” United Nations that Obama gave lip service to is nothing more than a delusion in an organization that has mutated over time into an assembly of human rights violators, far leftists and Islamists.
