Obama Tries to Rekindle Delusions of Unity for Midterm

In an exclusive People interview, Barack Obama openly admitted that in his first year as American President he had failed to “bring the country together in a way that we had done in the Inauguration.” Coming up to mid-term elections, nothing has changed.
To be fair, how could this fizzling out of unity not have happened? This perceived togetherness was not based on reality to begin with. Obama swooped in on wings of hope, lacking substance in his campaign, boasting promises of change that Americans desperately embraced in the midst of a financial meltdown that saw standards of living evaporate.
This farce of a campaign was accompanied by an effective Democratic hatchet job against Bush and the Republicans, impugning them for the economic crisis. Obama castigated the Bush administration for expecting Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps even if they don’t have any boots, yet unemployment is much worse now at 10% compared to 6.1% in 2008. As for the Obama administration’s health care reform, as commendable as the concept of a universal health care sounded, its implementation, timing and methodology was a debacle. Even the flawed Canadian system was frequently highlighted to push this endeavor .
Obama was virtually crowned as the redeemer to fix American woes. Well he didn’t. His administration’s socialist policy of aggressive spending and random bailouts was predicted to be a disastrous plan, and now that reality has set in with Americans, along with renewed concerns about a double dip recession, it’s no wonder America is divided and according to the Washington Times:
Two years after painting the electoral map blue and winning such conservative strongholds as Indiana and Virginia, President Obama has found his campaign travel efforts are confined mostly to the pre-Obama map that kept Democrats contained in the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast.
In attempts to shore up Democrat support for mid-term, the Obamas tried to rekindle some of the magic of 2008 by “pleading for supporters to keep believing” and warning that “if Democrats don’t prevail in the Nov. 2 midterm elections, Republicans will try to roll back his major achievements, including health-care reform and new financial regulations.”
Obama was correct in his People interview that he has failed to bring the country together in a way that he had done during the Inauguration. But the reason isn’t because of the Tea Party movement, Republican criticism and the so called radical right trying to exploit scare tactics in advance of November 2nd ; it’s about the worsening economic crisis and the realization that the Democrats are ideologically bankrupt, with no policy and no plan in place to improve the mess that America is in.
