Palestinians Glorify a Terrorist

Does building homes threaten peace? Or does holding a ceremony honoring as a hero and role model a terrorist who murdered dozens of civilians? Last week, Israel announced it would be doing the former. Palestinians did the latter. The Obama Administration condemned the Israeli words; it ignored the Palestinian deeds.

What could be wrong with building 1,600 homes for Jews in eastern Jerusalem?  Nothing, except for Palestinians who do not accept Israel’s existence and intend as a first step towards ending it to set up their own Jew-free state and divide Israel’s capital in the process.

What could be wrong with the Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority (PA) publicly honoring Dalal Mughrabi, who led the 1978 coastal road terror attack that killed 37 Israeli civilians? Everything, where peace is concerned but, apparently, nothing where the Obama Administration is concerned.

Visiting Vice-President Joseph Biden condemned the Israeli building project. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called it “an insult to the United States.” Senior Obama adviser David Axelrod described it as “destructive” and an “affront.” But no such words – in fact, no words at all – issued from this Administration over the PA publicly glorifying Mughrabi, which also occurred during Biden’s visit.

The Obama Administration has noisily opposed Jewish construction in the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem. But last year even it accepted Israel’s unilateral concession (unreciprocated by the PA) of a ten-month building freeze in the West Bank, excluding Jerusalem. Indeed, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton welcomed this concession and called it “unprecedented” – which it was.

After all, throughout the Oslo process, Israel built homes for existing Jewish communities without Palestinians breaking off talks, and little wonder: an Israeli commitment to cease building such homes does not feature in the Oslo agreements. The use of such a pretext for walking out of talks could only have gone so far.

However, last year, the Obama Administration arrived on the scene.

Since loudly demanding a Jewish construction freeze, the only result has been that the PA now refuses to negotiate until Israel accedes to it. This lands an Administration — that has made a priority about restarting peace talks without inquiring into whether Palestinians actually want peace — in a self-made mess.

Having no-where else to turn and unable to acknowledge responsibility for the results of its own posturing, the Obama Administration has scrambled for an alibi to account for its failure by turning on Israel for doing something it had previously accepted.

This fit of pique is likely to be as counter-productive for the Obama Administration as it will be inconsequential for Israel’s Netanyahu government. Israelis do not like other people telling them to divide their capital and they will not turn on the Netanyahu government for opposing steps that could lead to it.

The Obama Administration has already abandoned Obama’s original, sonorously proclaimed goal of swift, direct Israeli-Palestinian peace talks due the very Palestinian refusal to participate which it has incited. Now it may come to witness the disintegration of its painstakingly-orchestrated fall-back, proximity talks – basically the U.S. acting as messenger between the two sides – before they even begin.

Worse, this high-handedness with a friend will ultimately dismay other American allies – as other Obama stunts have done with the Czech Republic, Honduras and Poland, to name a few – while emboldening rivals and enemies.

Obama promised the Czechs and Poles that he would keep faith with his predecessor’s agreement to provide a missile defense shield, before telephoning both countries on the 70th anniversary of World War Two to tell them he had changed his mind at the behest of their worst nightmare, Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Honduras removed from office in accordance with its constitution a lawless president seeking to remain there and was rewarded with U.S. condemnation and the cutting off of military aid. Now Israel announces a housing project that Palestinians don’t like and the Administration reacts with rancorous hyperbole.

Meanwhile, the Administration presses ‘reset’ buttons with Russia, which sells the technology for nuclear weapons development to Iran. It restores an ambassador to Syria, having abandoned holding it accountable for the murder of Lebanon’s Rafik Hariri or dispatching jihadists to kill Americans in Iraq. And Obama personally bows before Saudi and Chinese despots who export the technology and ideology increasingly threatening America and its allies.

The Obama Administration fiddles about Israeli apartments while the Middle East burns.

Sadly, I think this commentator is wrong about the Obama administration's actions being "inconsequential" for the Netanyahu government. As other commentators have noted, the next step could well be Obama imposing a settlement by proclaiming the creation of a Palestinian state beyond the Green Line and then recognizing it officially. Heaven only knows what that will lead to.

I said something similar to this yesterday (somewhere). I would NOT be surprised if Obama Admin was setting the stage for forced resettlement of Palestinian 'Regugees' in Jewish territory/land with the add slap in the face of forcing our US military to guard the Palestinians!!!!!

The Community Organizer-in-Chief has done it again. His aim is to destroy the US, inside and outside the borders. By turning his back on allies, he sends the message that America is willing to do business with our aliies enemies. What a foriegn policy strategy! I didn't go to Harvard, or stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I know that is no way to assure long standing and aspiring democracies that we are there for them.

Palestinians are nothing more than the subsidized proxy terrorists of Iran who strap munitions on their own women and children and send them out on homicide-suicide missions to murder other women and children in markets, restuarants, and on school buses. The Palestinians have forfeited their right to even exist.

Israel is criss-crossed with streets dedicated to terrorists, some of whom even killed more Jews than Palestinians have ever done.

And the celebrations continue to this day – Netanyahu just attended the 60th anniversary celebration of the bombing of the King David Hotel, and was given a tour of honour of it by one of the terrorists who blew it up, killing 91 people. That man was honoured for his unpunished actions and has a pension from the state of Israel.

Oh, yes, and the terrorists wore Arab keffiyahs, the uniform of a gentle people who rarely gave anyone any trouble.

    • PAthena

The bombing of the King David Hotel was a military operation against the British, not a terrorist act. The "gentle" Arabs, as you call them, had been murdering Jews in the Palestine Mandate from 1921, including the massacre in Hebron in 1929, the attacks in 1936 (the British supporting them in both instances), the "gentle" Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin Husseini allying himself with Adolf Hitler and helping wage the Holocaust of the Jews.

We are no longer interested in who is called a terrorist. What is the point of talking with Nazis, whether they be arab or occidental? Corrupting history will not change the truth. The 'palestinians' will be removed from Jewish midsts in rivers of blood. There is nothing anyone will be able to do about it, least of all the arab in chief, Obama.

I may be wrong, but I thought the PA held off on this honor while Biden was visiting the area.
The massacre on the bus killing the Israeli innocents was horrific. It does say something that such occasions would be cause for celebrating victory and a source of pride and heroism.I think it is a perversion yes but not so much an evil as a sigh that the Palestinians have so few reasons for celebration and so few victories against the IDF or Israeli state.

I must say that Obama's foreign policy seems to be all over the place and mostly misplaced. Anyway, for a little more insight into Obama's motivation and worldview, everyone should read the following:

"He believes that the US — yes, his own country — and Britain, and the leading European countries, too, for that matter, are imperial powers who ruthlessly exploited the Third World for their own profit.

And Obama is America's first Third World president."

    More:

Chicago is not Obama's homeland. It never was his formative influence. The president's world view is more aligned with that of Indonesia.

You can be sure the gift Obama gives the President of Indonesia will be something more than the dvd box-set of old Hollywood movies he gave to Gordon Brown. The US president's manner on the trip to Indonesia will be more the manner he showed to the King of Saudi Arabia last year. The king received a deep bow, something never done by any US president before. Obama also kow-towed to the Emperor of Japan and to the Chinese premier.

What's going on? According to Dr Lucier, Obama's policy is to disestablish the United States, Great Britain and Europe from the hegemony of world power, and elevate in their place the hegemony of the Third World under international governance.

Remember, Obama is a deracinated individual. He has no roots. He is a man from an Asian-Pacific background bred to no admiration for the ancient constitutional history which, until now, has reached across the Atlantic to bind America and Britain.

The president actually feels that the US Constitution, which grew out of Magna Carta and the 1689 Bill of Rights, is 'inadequate.'

Indeed, Obama has stated that, because the US Constitution guarantees only 'negative rights' — that is, establishes what the US Government may not do to individuals or to the sovereign states — instead of giving people guarantees of food, shelter education and health care and the rest, it is 'inadequate.'

    […]

Obama has made it clear he despises both the US Constitution and the British tradition from which it spring.

President Obama is making a huge mistake by not backing Israel. Israel is still our only true ally in the middle east. They are our only reasonable means of gaining human intelligence on those hell-bent on destroying us. Our President needs to wake up and back not only Israel but all our allies around the world.

Palestinians are nothing more than the subsidized proxy terrorists of Iran who strap munitions on their own women and children and send them out on homicide-suicide missions to murder other women and children in markets, restuarants, and on school buses. The Palestinians have openly stated their intentions of commiting Jewish genocide and therefore have forfeited their right to even exist land should never be given a UN and US sanctioned terrorist state of their own.
