Olby Fired for THIS? Nope.

I’ve held off dancing on Keith Olbermann’s broadcast grave for two reasons: One, because I wasn’t sure I believed it; and two, because I wasn’t sure it was cause for celebration.
Of all the compilations and commentary about the abrupt “indefinite suspension” by MSNBC of their most prominent personality, Keith Olbermann, perhaps the above video put together by Reason TV captures Olby more completely than any attempt to analyze his hate filled rants.
It should be noted, however, Thomas Roberts, the personality-free mannequin who filled in for Keith on Friday night, seemed to promise a quick return. And last night, it was confirmed. Keith Olbermann was “indefinitely”.. suspended for 2 shows.
The question everyone seemed to miss was… What else has MSNBC got? Are they going to build their prime time schedule around Chris Matthews? Tried and failed. Snarky Rachel Maddow? Sidekick material if there ever was such a thing. Laurence, “I am a socialist” O’Donnell? Barely able to get through his 10PM show without nodding off himself, now.
Of course, with the Comcast purchase of MSNBC, there has been rampant speculation about what the profit-oriented new owners might do with the loss-leading leftwing network. It seemed logical they would take this chance, like a sports franchise, to unload this overpaid player and his reported $7 million contract (On most nights, that is $5 per viewer).
To review, Olbermann made contributions to 3 ultra-progressive Democrat candidates without his employers knowledge. Much of the commentary treats this as evidence of media partisanship. Really? As Jay Leno once noted about preachers playing records with demonic images on the cover backwards looking for occult messages… THIS is the evidence? How about the obvious?
And let’s be clear. Olbermann was suspended on a small technicality. Not that he contributed, but that he contributed without permission.
I know this is old, but since I was working with 20 conservative candidates in Michigan in the last election, I did not have time to comment on Olbermann’s most recent mind-blowing Meltdown, his “Special Commentary” on the Tea Party and the conservative tide about to undo much of what Keith and his MSNBC cronies have worked for these last 5 or so years:
No comment necessary.
But would it be right to celebrate the end of Keith Olbermann? I’m not sure. It’s instructive to have him out there, with the veneer of NBC News behind him. And what could be more indicative of the bias of the elite mainstream media than the fact most of Newsweek was willing to come on the air and agree with even Olby’s most outrageous conspiracy theories?
So, the object lesson continues. That’s not all bad.
