Why the Left Hates Conservatives

Pages: 1 2

Perhaps the most telling of the recent revelations of the liberal/left Journolist, a list consisting of about 400 major liberal/left journalists, is the depth of their hatred of conservatives. That they would consult with one another in order to protect candidate and then President Obama and in order to hurt Republicans is unfortunate and ugly. But what is jolting is the hatred of conservatives, as exemplified by the e-mail from an NPR reporter expressing her wish to personally see Rush Limbaugh die a painful death — and the apparent absence of any objection from the other liberal journalists.

Every one of us on the right has seen this hatred. I am not referring to leftist bloggers or to anonymous extreme comments by angry leftists on conservative blogs — such things exist on the right as well — but to mainstream elite liberal journalists. There is simply nothing analogous among elite conservative journalists. Yes, nearly all conservatives believe that the left is leading America to ruin. But while there is plenty of conservative anger over this fact, there is little or nothing on the right to match the left’s hatred of conservative individuals. Would mainstream conservative journalists e-mail one another wishes to be present while Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi or Michael Moore dies slowly and painfully of a heart attack?

From Karl Marx to today, the Left has always hated people on the Right, not merely differed or been angry with them.

The question is: why?

Here are three possible answers.

First, the left thinks the right is evil.

Granting for exceptions that all generalizations allow for, conservatives believe that those on the left are wrong, while those on the left believe that those on the right are bad, not merely wrong. Examples are innumerable. For example, Howard Dean, the former head of the Democratic Party said, “In contradistinction to the Republicans … (Democrats) don’t believe kids ought to go to bed hungry at night.”

Or take Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., who, among many similar comments, said, “I want to say a few words about what it means to be a Democrat. It’s very simple: We have a conscience.”

Has any spokesman of the Republican Party ever said anything analogous about Democrats not caring about the suffering of children or not having a conscience?

Dennis Prager believes – rightly in my opinion – that the Left's hatred of conservatives is based on a moral dimension. But when one analyzes the "moral superiority" of the Left – on issue after issue, it reveals itself to be a chimera, morphing into something entirely contrary under the weight of unspoken agendas and real-life circumstance.

Let's take the Iraq war as an example…

Remember how the Left was so concerned about the Iraqi people in the lead-up and early stages of the war? Three years in, Saddam was gone and our presence was the only thing keeping the country from a nightmarish, sectarian civil war. Yet, at that point, the Leftists apparently no longer gave a damn about the Iraqis and argued instead that we should pull out in order to save the lives of American servicemen.

The truth is, it was NEVER concern about the Iraqi people OR American servicemen that motivated the Left, it was the pathological fear of – and loathing for – any successful projection of American power in the world. Iraq being pacified would validate the intervention paradigm and enhance America's geo-political position; Iraq going up in flames would thoroughly discredit us and teach us anew the lessons of Vietnam. It mattered not one iota how many Iraqis might perish for the object lesson to be learned (just as it mattered not one iota a generation before when Pol Pot perpetrated his genocide in Cambodia).

This also explains why feminist, gay, and civil-rights activists are so eager to turn a blind eye to the appalling treatment of women, gays and religious minorities in the Muslim world. The stated goal of human equality is but a lofty abstract, an intoxicant for the foot-soldier who might otherwise grow weary and wonder off; the ACTUAL goal is the destruction of capitalism, embodied by the United States of America.

So folks, it may indeed be all about morality for the Left, but theirs is an unmistakably deformed morality that can exist only in a world of habitual double standards.

I think it also has to do with the fact that people on the left on primarily totalitarianists. When they get true political power, you get National Socialism, Fascism, the former (and maybe present) Soviet Union, Red Chinese, etc., all totalitarian states.

Can you envision leftists in power rounding up conservatives in this country for forced political indoctrination and concentration camps? Is it hard to imagine them wanting to pull the lever on a prominent conservative like Limbaugh if they had the power to do so?

Fortunately, we still have individual rights and the rule of law in this country. But if we ever lost those, as a conservative, you would never want to live in the world these people would create. Utopia for them would be conservativefrei.

Lefties, none of whom watch the show, are uniformly convinced that Rush Limbaugh just stands there shouting the n-word at the top of his lungs. They are convinced that Rush is a truly evil, racist person, that he would bring back Jim Crow in a heartbeat if he had his way. Would they have him arrested if they had the power? Yes.

They might want to be conservative free but I seriously think they would never
have the ability to make that so and would be looking at self annihilation in
the attempt. Leftists need conservatives, someone has to work and they

In a broader sense , it's the human minds craving to belive in something , rather than nothing , as it is hardwired to believe in a ''god''. Since the beginning of the 20th century and the calamitous randomness of WW 1 , science has undermined the old certainties of traditional religion and the Left has vainly attempted to create a secular religion of class in the Soviet union and a secular religion of RACE in Nazi Germany (volksgemeinshaft ). It is now trying to build a lightwieght utopian socialism of ''high tech Paganism'' or Deism dressed up in modern clothes….Al Gore is the Holy Prophet , ''global warming ''is the vision of the apocalyipse and the holy symbol is the wind turbine , painted green , that can be worn as a shoulder patch on their GREENSHIRTS

your "double standards" are considered bourgeois and frivolous niceties which the Leftoids laugh at, and plow onwards over you, saying," What are you going to DO about it, whitey?"
Herbert Marchuse, Angela Davis' teacher, in June 1970 wrote anti-leftists have no claim to civil rights,of assembly press or speech, of any kind, and must be destroyed everywhere they exist.

Okay, do you agree or disagree with Marchuse's claim? If you do, you are deligitimizing most of those who built this nation's foundations. If this is so, then move to another land.

do you think people can stop using their skin color as an excuse to do what they want to do and say? like wanting to kill all crackers? the problem in this country is the media. they churn out everything they can (to get ratings) to cause strife in this country.

Ted Kennedy was quoting RFK who was actually quoting George Bernard Shaw, another left-wing utopian, on the "Some men see things as they are . . ." comment. A trivial matter, but even socialists probably want credit where credit is due, so to speak. Good column, Mr. Prager.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/therealend therealend

It is probably a bit more convoluted than the three reasons cited. It's all very personal to the Leftist. Each one probably starts off believing they have discovered the "real truth" and that part of that "truth" is that the Right is unjustly trying to thwart the Left and it gets personalized that way very early on.

I think later, it gets reinforced by fellow Leftists and everyone goes along with that without really thinking why. To do otherwise would cost them friends and for some, positions. It's all shallow and a bit cowardly. Calling the Right war mongers and baby killers is all they can come up with. This is the limit of their analysis. They are unwilling to go any deeper in their thinking than that. It's like arguing with an adolescent. They are willing to go too far with their attacks and can't bring themselves to take back what they said.

Also, they like the approval of the other Leftists and that emboldens them. But the funny thing is, when I was a Leftist and moved further Left, I thought of the near Left as weak and began to despise them for not going far enough. Crazy, huh?

As Lenin well knew the willing idiots are there to transfer wealth, power, and position to the Secular Heads of State by stoking their warped belief that once in power their POLITICAL CASTE ELITES will actually spread CAPTIALISMS money and gain around to them and create their deluded version of Utopia..

Consider that these people are likely mostly boomers, mostly coming of age in the 60s and 70s, or allied philosophically with those who did. Hence they have been steeped in their ideology for decades, in academe and the press among those doing the same, slowly ascending the ladder of American journalism, which has by now become mainly left/liberal. That they would become hateful is no surprise.

  • Sprinklerman

    PART I
I agree with Mr. Pragers theory on the first and third reasons but I'm having a difficult time with the second, "everyone hates the guy who stands up to the bully".

While I cleary remember the backlash that happened when RR made his evil empire statement, and when he walked out of the Peace Talks with the Russians, that's not what I remember when I was a kid.

When I was in elementary school we had the classic bully who just wouldn't leave me alone. I was small and had little skills to defend myself. One day when the bully began to beat me about the head while on the bus with his school book, a much larger friend grabbed the bully from behind and began to pummel him with his school book. Not only was I relieved but the whole school bus began to cheer and that bully never picked a fight with me or anyone else. I suspect that he had some explaining to do to his parents when he got home.

It is interesting how the left can be moral relativists and yet intensely denounce the right as evil. They proclaim all cultures and beliefs as morally equivalent but have a visceral hatred of our traditional culture. They see all people as victims or merely ill and in need of therapy–except Republicans who are driven by the devil they (i.e. the left) don't believe in.

How best to explain this glaring contradiction?

  • blotto

My take: First, the left is built on lies. They innately know it; everything the left/progressives/marxists dream of, suggest and do is based on a lie. Therefore, in order to protect themselves from ridicule, and cognitive dissonance, they must aggressively confront those who disagree with them-us, the conservative right.
Second, since they own the media, information sources, government at all levels, and colleges/universities, they have been insulated from the consequences of their lies and the harm it has caused. Again, this only reinforces their disdain for us and allows themselves to freely and without compunction to attack us on the right.
Third, just like terrorists, the left knows our ROEs and game plan. They know we never attack in either defense or offense. In fact, when someone on our side does attack, "Liar!", our side attacks our own attacker. It has been our side and our politicians who have allowed the left to gain this power to attack us personally and our ideas. Our guys are all to eager to be mavericks like McLame and Grahmnesty. Our side IS afraid of the consequences. But moreover, we abide by the rules of the Constitution and other founding documents.

OK, first, what specific lies are you refering to: is it "all men and women are born equal and basically good?" That "society should be run equitably and protect the minority, weak and poor from the strong, rich and powerful?" That "cooperation is preferable to competition, yet people should be free to go as far as they can either way?" That "genuine Free Enterprise is killed by monopoly capitalism?" That "Power corupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely?" I'm not talking about psycho-communism, which is no different then fascism, I'll agree.

The Left despise the police, military and religious because they represent the "authority" that the perpetual juvenile (the Left) rebels and rails against. They want to be free to do what they want without any judgment or having to answer to anyone. The left are the eternal teenagers with unresolved anger "issues" and the Right are the parents.

Watch out America! the teenagers got their hands on the checkbook!

Quite right. There's an infantalism at the base of leftism which is due, I believe, to a psychosexual (male hatred) dysfunction. If you're interested see http://maxentropy.squarespace.com where I have written about "The Radical Left" and "Radicalism as a Secular Religion" among other aspects of the political Left.

A more interesting question is: Why does a Bible-believing Christian such as myself hate "conservatism," meaning modern conservatism. Answer: Because, operationally, de facto, its plans have been Godless, without Christ. Thus, it has failed, and DESERVED to fail. "Politics" will NOT save us. More than 150 years ago, R.L. Dabney nailed the Godless, Christless secular "conservatism" of his day when he said:

"[It]s history has been that it demurs to each aggression of the progressive party, and aims to save its credit by a respectable amount of growling, but always acquiesces at last in the innovation. What was the resisted novelty of yesterday is today one of the accepted principles of conservatism; it is now conservative only in affecting to resist the next innovation, which will tomorrow be forced upon its timidity and will be succeeded by some third revolution, to be denounced and then adopted in its turn. American conservatism is merely the shadow that follows Radicalism as it moves forward to perdition. It remains behind it, but never retards it, and always advances near its leader. This pretended salt hath utterly lost its savor: wherewith shall it be salted? Its impotency is not hard to explain. It is worthless because it is the conservatism of expediency only, and not of sturdy principle. It tends to risk nothing serious for the sake of truth."

Amen! And this is even truer re: today's modern Godless "conservatism."

      by Ayn Rand
If one wishes to advocate a free society—that is, capitalism—one must realize that its indispensable foundation is the principle of individual rights. If one wishes to uphold individual rights, one must realize that capitalism is the only system that can uphold and protect them. And if one wishes to gauge the relationship of freedom to the goals of today’s intellectuals, one may gauge it by the fact that the concept of individual rights is evaded, distorted, perverted and seldom discussed, most conspicuously seldom by the so-called “conservatives” who are basically mystics basing their concept of rights in error on organized religion, the t anti intellectual baggage dragged along from decadent Europe.

Your post is are stupid and so are you because you don't even suspect it is stupid.

    • Judahlevi

Dabney did not nail it at all. The conservatism that he described is not principled or anchored by absolute values. It a drifting "shadow" that has no meaning other than to follow in the wake of radicalism. That is not the conservatism I know.

Conservatism believes in individualism and individual rights. That will never change. Conservatism believes in limited government that works for the people, not over them. That will never change. Conservatism believes in capitalism which is the logical economic extension of individualism. That will never change. Conservatism believes in freedom of religion which will never change. And I could go on.

We also believe in free speech which is why Lofton can make such an fallacious and misguided statement and not be hauled off to the Gulag. His radical friends would never allow it.

I welcome the religious right to the conservative party just like the left welcomes those who are ignorant and pay no attention to politics. Hitler proved it is easy to whip up followers in hatred, and so has Muhammad for 1300 years.

At least we now have the internet to expose the treason that has us by a chokehold. I try to remind them that demonizing my beliefs is not a valid argument, as their beliefs have led to over 100 million deaths in the last century.

    • The Anarchist

Hitler was on the right. He was an ultra-nationalist, anticommunist, militarist capitalist. His party might have called themselves "Socialists," but that doesn't mean anything. Just because the liberals call themselves the "Democratic Party," does that make the conservatives monarchist? I didn't think so.
I'm Muslim, and I don't think that Muhammad "whipped up followers in hate." Read the Quo'ran. (The WHOLE thing. Don't just pull one or two phrases out of context.) You'll find it to be like a less hate-filled Bible. I don't hate Christians, Jews, or any religion. Could it be that *gasp* NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS?!

The left does not have a pathologic hatred of the right. In fact, your story shows that the RIGHT has a PARANOIA towards the LEFT. We don't think that all conservatives are evil, or that America is bad. In fact, America is one of the greatest examples of equality: all men are equal before the law. And while some liberal journalists may have had deathwishes towards conservatives, they aren't even co.mparable to the threats launched by the Tea Party.
How can the right believe in "a strong military" and "the individual"? Conservatives believe in economic individuality, yes, but not social. And all leftists do not believe in the state. Ever heard of anarchists? Some of the BIGGEST STATISTS in history WERE SELF-DESCRIBED RIGHTISTS. Fascism is on the right wing. Don't deny it, it believes in a strong military and national unity.

Liberals/socialists dont use their brains, its that simple. A lot of 'new' conservatives
use their brains. The problem with liberals/socialists – they are always telling everyone else what to do like they know all the answers. They assume too much, they think they know and unfortunately for everyone else a lot of the time they dont know. Their 'solutions' are more and more complex as exampled by Obambis economic control bill – 2600 pages. More jargon, more control more beaurocracy – and less brains.

    • The Anarchist

What's "beaurocracy"? I believe the word is "bureaucracy."

Why do think US liberals are socialists? They aren't even close. Liberals in America are usually center-right capitalists. Maybe regulated capitalists, but capitalists nonetheless.
