Can the GOP Undo ObamaCare?

Pages: 1 2

As congressmen and senators face the electorate next week, millions of votes will turn on one simple question: Did he (she) take the pledge? The pledge to repeal Obamacare.

In recent weeks, Democratic candidates have been profuse in their determination to “fix” Obamacare. West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin ran an ad saying he was going to repeal “the bad parts of Obamacare.” With such sleight-of -hand efforts to blunt the GOP’s best issue, the question needs to be put to all incumbents and their challengers: Are you willing to take the pledge?

Here’s the pledge, as formulated by www.theRepealPledge.com:

“I pledge to vote for all bills which seek to REPEAL the health care bill, HR 3590, signed into law on March 23, 2010.

“To that end, I do now and will in the next Congress endorse and vote for all measures, including discharge petitions, leading to its defunding, deauthorization, and repeal.

“I shall do so whether those measures are taken for the whole of the bill or those component parts that impose mandates, restrict patient and doctor choice and access, violate individual freedom and privacy, reduce healthy competition, increase costs, or raise taxes.”

These are, of course, the 94 words no Democratic incumbent dares to utter. To do so would be risk excommunication from the high church of Obama liberalism.

Repeal, defunding and deauthorizing Obamacare will be top items on the GOP agenda for 2011. With their new congressional majorities, they are sure to pass it, and Obama is equally determined to veto the repeal.

But the real battle will be fought later in the year when the actual federal budget is drafted. Look for Congress to insert language seeking to bar the use of any funds for the enforcement of the health care law. The IRS, for example, will probably be enjoined from using any appropriated money to enforce the individual mandate, and the Department of Health and Human Services will be blocked from using funds to design and enforce cuts in Medicare spending.

The Republican Party will still be in need of an enema after this election. We still have high profile characters waiting in the wings to sell us out. The McConnells, Graham's, Snowe's, Cornyn's etc. all need to go.

    • Jim Johnson

      You betcha

  • ObamaYoMoma

Yep…it was imperial overreach of monumental proportions and it will be used as a cudgel in which to beat the Dhimmicrats for years.

  • davarino

Who says democrats cant be totalitarians. Thats how you get things done, but unfortunately for them we are still free to vote them out.

    Thanks O

Now thats change you can believe in.

There are so many things wrong and downright evil about this bill that repeal is only the beginning. The real war has to be against the kind of thinking that went into it: giving O a 150,000-man private army, destroying confidentiality of medical records, siccing the IRS on us, the concentration camps, the death panels (yes, they're in there), medical services for illegals and on and on and on.

Obamacare is only a symptom. The disease is infecting the core of the country and destroying its ability to heal itself. The ideology that brought us to this point is the deadly virus that must be eliminated by any means necessary.

    • Philosopherking

I think death panels is a little extreme even though there is something in there similar to that idea. A better way to explain it is that the government will get control of all funding and decide what gets funded, how operations are to be done, and how people are to be treated. The government will try to fund everyone but eventually they have to decide who is more important.

Sorry granny you are just going to have to take the pill…at least that is what Obama thinks.

  • tanstaafl

It was a revealing piece of legislation – in that the Democrats did not even pretend to listen to the American people and their wishes. Will there even be a Democratic Party 20 years from now?

the question is can the GOP Undo obama CARE, one word.."NO". In fact the GOP Will do nothing but the old washington dance and many fools will think something is being done. come on people the GOP Helped Obama become president, just open your eyes!

Electronic medical records cost billions and still don't work if the government attempts it. My Georgia GP, surgeon, and hospital set up their own electronic records years before the government got around to it. I did all my intake and pre-op paperwork online, and just showed up with my license on carving day.

What the politicians and DC bureaucrats are wanting is all our medical and financial information in THEIR centralized database.

  • Rifleman

It must be repealed in toto. If it's not, private health care in the USA will be wrecked, then destroyed.

  • bubba4

Oh Dick…you get money directly from health care lobbyist organizations and GOP PACs and you just say whatever they tell you.

How come Tea Party people don't care when someone is completely compromised and in the tank for their own money interests?

  • turbantorpedo

    Gunner 57,

The Tea Party has become a fact of life and will gather political energy over the years. 'We the people . . .' are solidly behind the Spirit of 76 colonial movement that it stands for.

The RINO's in GOP leadership roles have been put on notice by the Tea Party rank and file that their business as usual shennanigans will not be tolerated. They either shape up and go with the America first flow, or their states will be getting a steady barage of their pecadillo's of a political nature, which should give the state Tea Party apparatus time enough to find a red white and blue candidate to replace them

The buck stops with 'We the people . . .' starting this year. We will not longer tolerate insufferable Washington establishment politicians. This is the year we begin to give America back to our posterity.

What I fear is that the Republicans, especially the career politicians, will not overturn Obamacare in total because they want the same powers that the Democrats have afforded themselves which is control of peoples lives and money in many aspects. Do you trust the Repubicans to give up the great powers that were given to the Democrats under this bill, many of which are opened to interpretation, giving them a blank check? We will keep an eye on what they will decide, with great oversight!

    • Philosopherking

      Good point.

  • votedagainstoby

We MUST PURGE the Republican Party of ALL the Progressive RINO's. PERIOD.

The Progressive movement has been a CANCER on America for the last 120 years.

Time for surgery along with a healthy dose of chemo therapy.

That way we can kill the progressive cancer once and for all.

    • Philosopherking

I think it is better to understand the psychology behind progressivism if we are to destroy it. To me, it seems that progressives believe in the perfection of human nature and see humanity moving forward to this goal. The founders knew human nature was imperfect, accepted that it would always be like that, and established government to compensate for the imperfect nature by making a government that protects life and property. This prevents imperfect human nature from effecting our lives since our life and property are secured by law.

Progessives believe that humanity can be cured so they seek to perfect every little thing in society. They seek to correct human defects instead of just being content with it and allowing government to provide the restraint that those defects prohibits us from doing. One wants to perfect the human soul while the other wants to prevent the defects from interfering with our lives. I prefer the ladder because then I know that my freedom is secure.
