You Can Put Lipstick (and Clairol Golden Blonde #71) on a Jihadist, but She’s Still a Jihadist

Colleen LaRose was a high school dropout who was 16 when she married a man twice her age. She was “the weird, weird, weird lady who lived across the hall” and talked to her cats. She attempted suicide five years ago, allegedly wrote bad checks, drove drunk, and was divorced twice.
Surely one of those things must explain why an American woman who lived a quiet life in a small Pennsylvania town would plot a violent act of jihad against a Swedish cartoonist who drew the prophet Mohammed with a dog’s body.
It couldn’t possibly be the “religion of peace.”
Such is the media spin as the press desperately grasps for a non-Islamic angle on a story that has everything to do with Islam, the story of Jihad Jane.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Colleen LaRose’s “possible motivation was not clear.” And yet, this is the lede of that article (emphases mine):
Using e-mail, YouTube videos, phony travel documents and a burning desire to kill “or die trying,” a middle-aged American woman from Pennsylvania helped recruit a network for suicide attacks and other terrorist strikes in Europe and Asia, according to a federal grand jury indictment unsealed Tuesday.
Colleen R. LaRose, who dubbed herself “JihadJane,” was so intent on waging jihad, authorities said, that she traveled to Sweden to kill an artist in a way that would frighten “the whole Kufar [nonbeliever] world.”
With blond hair and green eyes, the 46-year-old woman bragged that she could go anywhere undetected, boasting in one e-mail that it was “an honour & great pleasure to die or kill for” jihad, or holy war, the indictment said.
“Only death will stop me here that I am so close to the target!” she wrote.
The Times article also quotes one of LaRose’s YouTube rants in which she said she was “desperate to do something somehow to help” Muslims. But it omits that LaRose was a Muslim convert who celebrated the beheading of infidels and actively participated in the radical Islamist Web site Revolution Muslim.
How could her motivation possibly be unclear?
Jihad Jane’s troubled past made her ripe for recruitment by Islamofascists, but it was Islamic political doctrine that gave her an enemy to target and the license to eliminate him through violence. She hoped to commit violent jihad and was eager to martyr herself in the name of Allah.
To let Islam off the hook in the Jihad Jane case is to succumb to the tyranny of political correctness. Colleen LaRose isn’t simply a disturbed woman who misinterpreted the ever so peaceful teachings of Mohammed. She’s an angry, hateful individual who attached herself to an ideology that invites her to bask in her superiority over others.
And there are plenty more just like her.
