The liberal milieu and mainstream media are baffled: What could have possibly led the 23-year-old Nigerian boy Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to attempt jihadi suicide on a passenger plane? How could such a nice, educated Islamic boy, who grew up in a rich and prosperous family, have come under the “radical” and “extreme” influences that set him on his violent course? It’s just all so mysterious.

It’s so mysterious that the news anchors on CNN continue to incredulously ask each other and their guests these questions — back and forth, over and over again, in a cyclical circus that has no end and that never produces the most obvious answer staring any sensible person right in the face. In the liberal imagination, there is just this “extremist ideology” out there somewhere and somehow this unfortunate Muslim boy fell under its spell, but no one can be exactly sure how or why it happened. All one can be sure of is that an adversarial culture or ideology must not be blamed and that America, somewhere, somehow, must definitely be at fault.

And so, when it comes to the liberal left trying to digest Abdulmutallab and his suicidal quest, perplexed dismay becomes a much safer hiding place than honesty, because the basic truth threatens the very survival of the liberal faith. For the liberal to accept the evident reason why Abdulmutallab set off on his suicide odyssey would necessitate him having to completely shed himself of his entire worldview and personal identity. The much easier route, therefore, is to keep oneself confused and to stay focused on how American capitalism and imperialism must have surely had something to do with it — even though, as is the case with the cause of Islamic terror itself, these factors are so obviously not involved in Abdulmutallab’s suicidal and murderous yearnings (i.e., Abdulmutallab comes from a privileged, wealthy, and educated life, etc.).

What the lib-left milieu simply can’t digest is what Islamic terrorists like Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab themselves insist motivated them. And these are things like, you know, reading certain religious texts and following a certain religion’s teachings. They are things, sort of like, well, following Islam and reading the Koran and stuff like that.

When all is said and done, the true reasons why Abdulmutallab embarked on his murderous mission of suicide are completely understandable — and only to be expected — in the context of his Islamic odyssey. And Abdulmutallab himself clearly points to the influence of his religion in his own personal writings on the internet.

    OBAMA'S WAR ON MOSLEM POVERTY

Why can't America win the War on Terror under the leadership Barack Hussein Obama? Why can't he rise to the level of a great wartime leader like a George W. Bush, an FDR, a Truman or Abe Lincoln in fighting our radical Moslem enemies? The answer lies in Obama's politically correct view of Islam and his little understood war on Moselm poverty. Google ApolloSpeaks (one word) and read my groundbreaking piece: Obama's War on Moslem Poverty and see what I mean.

    YEAH~IT's REALLY A GOOD Q'…..

“Why (does a) the Rich Muslim Boy Became a Terrorist ????”

I should think that…that when a person is bent on doing something bad; they will
eventually be doing it, no matter what it takes !!!
Excuses can be made BUT there is no excuse for murdering innocent people !
The LAW should take its cause & the 'key thrown away' !!!
I'm sure all Religions/Faiths teaches to be good….

On the otherhand too….There could be people in high places having their own
    worldly Agendas !
An occurence can change the situations….
We have seen enough about the 9-11….
Till today~There's alot of conspiracy theories…
Tell me if all are untrue ? I really doubt so….

SO~WHY IS THIS “RICH” BOY A TERRORIST ?
    Hmmm….Unteresting really….
So, Africans are now in the scene….????

Because of his will and determination to win. His success against the odds and colossal opposition to forge ahead with a surge in Iraq and turn things around. A truly impressive feat that took me by surprise. Bush deserves high marks for this. He is truly one of our great war leaders.

One of the planks of the Communist Manifesto is free education in Public schools. This is how and why the schools in America have become communist re-education camps. Ask yourself why aren’t young people smart enough to see through Marxist drivel? Public schools. Not only where kids intentionally kept ignorant of the blessings of liberty in public schools they where proselytized to the Marxist side of the force. How else do you explain the election of a man with no experience who is a Marxist and hates the history of the United States? Can you imagine if the children had not been dumbed down that they would except that a man could sit in front of a preacher who damned American for 20 years without hearing a word?

Parents should also stop sending their kids to Marxists universities. Look in the history, sociology and ethnic studies departments. If there are any Marxists, Socialists, Communists or Progressives in any department of the school stop funding that school even as an alumni. America’s colleges and universities are often the most overt part of the communist re-education camp.

Ironically, Obama is vindicating Bush in two ways.

First, his appeasement and serial apologia for his country's defense of freedom against Islamist terror have sparked confidence in our enemies, who, accordingly, have greatly increased the number of their terrorist attacks against the US since Bush left office.

Second, despite reason one, and despite having railed against them when the still painfully naive candidate, Obama has quietly maintained all the anti-terror protocols Bush instituted: wire taps, intercepts, predator strikes, renditions, Guantanamo one year later, Bush's time table for leaving Iraq – and not least of all, the Patriot Act.

Sober people knew history would vindicate Bush. But we thought historians would do that, not, of all people, Obama.

The east coast liberal news media orthodoxy is that Christianity is bad, and breeds domestic terrorism, and Islam, which calls itself the Religion of Peace, really is peaceful, so it just doesn't make sense that it breeds international terrorists.

When your thinking is that convoluted and denies the truth before you, it's really tough to understand anything you're reporting on.

Only you can jump from the subject of terrorims to socialism in schools without any sort of elogance.

I was attending an evening course of humanities at my local junior college 3 days after the 9/11 terrorist attack — The teacher was a woman of Pakistani influence that was obviously a flaming liberal. ( before the 9/11 attack, she asked me to consider taking the class on Sunday and I though that was weird because there are no classes on Sundays) — I told her I go to church on Sundays. Her demeanor changed immediatly and she became hostile towards me from there on.

The class following 9/11,She got up in front of the class and pulled out a Bible and quoted Moses as saying —än eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth– then she quoted Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson with their famous quote about how God raised his curtian of protection because of gays, …

Then she make her claim that religion has caused more harm than good.

I was sitting in the front and everybody saw me shake my head in disaproval. She then raddled on with out-right disrespect towards Jesus Christ, essentially spitting in his face while trying to get me furious but it didn't phase me at all. She was laughing but she was the only one laughing in the classroom and she began to physically shake from the uncomfortable aura in the classroom after that.

( I don't disagree with her statement but rather her choice of deliverence in regards to the fact that some Muslims fanatics just killed thousands of innocent Americans and she chooses to use my faith as the bad example while misquoting the intentions of Moses's law)

See I know my own culture better than she does and I'm surrounded by a bunch of latinas for class mates.

I just smiled because I felt sorry for her and her career. Latina's are Catholics that go to mass and worship the Virgin Mary and her Son. They don't play that game. They are going to wait untill they are done with her class and then they are going to kick her ass.

Not only did she get her ass handed to her, she couldn''t teach there anymore — that was her last year.

Then the other teachers had a very religeous Christmas show for us right before Christmas break and the dean made her participate by sitting in the audiance where everybody could see her. Her teaching contract states she has to participate.

Long story short, even if it has really nothing to do with the article — it doesn't work that way and your source — the press that feeds on sensationalism— don't report these sort of outcomes — so you really don't have a clue Sniper.

Well I disagree with you Äpollo, Bush got some of the highest poll ratings a President could get and it was due to being in the right place and the right time. — 9/11

When our country goes through something like 9/11 and Congress declares war, they show their support by supporting their leader. It was the American people who lead the charge by giving Congress the approval to give Bush the powers that were needed at the time and that we still relish like the Patriot Act.

It is when his poor judgement and cocky attitude came into play is what started his demise to the lowest poll ratings a modern President has ever had.

So you give Bush credit for standing on a heap of rubble on 9/11 with a loud speaker but you blame half the Americans when he makes an ass out of himself on an aircraft carrier to say the least.

If 9/11 would have happened in the beginning of Clinton's 8 year tenure like Bush's, you would have had to either have had to either turn Democrat and repeat what you just said or you would have to be just another GOP hypocrit!

The only difference with Clinton is that we would be fighting the terrorists instead of creating terrorism in an oil rich country in with a personal vendetta and wealth at stake.

  • bushlikesdick2

Bush's vindication for his follies will never come — sorry to have to tell you that.

First, where you get the idea that the terrorists have a renewed confidence from the Obama policy is beyond me and Secretary of Defence Gates — we all know that the problems in Afghanistan existed and were created on Bush's watch.

I'm not blaming Bush nor am I going to blame Obama either. Both did the best they could under the circumstances.

Bottom line, in my opinion, the origional operation was a success — the original bombing.

It was the decision to spread the war into Iraq and creating terorists in Iraq and therefore spreading hatred throughout the M.E. that has helped the Taliban more than anything else.

We failed to contian the Taliban and Al Queda in Afghanistan due to the appeasement of Govt's like Pakistan that are under the same political pressure as the rest of the Arab world in regards to condeming the spread of what is interpreted as colonizing their Holy land.

Bush was an avid supporter of the State of Israel and that was like throwing gas on a fire that was already boiling over in Iraq as well as anywhere else that the oppressed can be used as tools to kill our soilers — i.e suicide bombers and the dangerous job of planting IUD's.

Second, nobody cares what the extreme left wing wants any more than the rest of the nation really cares what the extreme right wing wants.

The right wing want to pretend like the war policies approved in Congress belong to them and their President but they don't — not anymore than FDR and Trueman policies to blow the retards out of Japan and Germany belong to the Democrats only — they belong to the American people. through public opinion , representation, we the American people gave our government consent not the other way around. When you abuse that consent, then we take that consent away from you. ( we vote you out)

So now we are giving the majority party consent to fix the problems the way we intended them to be fixed. ( the ones that replaced your war time hero Bush and his party)

  • DemocracyFirst

Even Obama is now dropping this line of argument. hence, he vindicates Bush.

I have more time now to deal with your response.

confidence from the Obama policy is beyond me and Secretary of Defence Gates

  • DemocracyFirst

I have more time now to deal with your response.

You ask: “First, where you get the idea that the terrorists have a renewed confidence from the Obama policy is beyond me and Secretary of Defence Gates — we all know that the problems in Afghanistan existed and were created on Bush's watch.”

There has been something like a 4 fold increase in terror attempts against the US since Obama assumed office.

There has bee a significant increase in Taliban attacks and American deaths in Afghanastan since Obama assumed office.

You say: “It was the decision to spread the war into Iraq and creating terorists in Iraq and therefore spreading hatred throughout the M.E. that has helped the Taliban more than anything else.”

If this theory were true, then Obama's extraordinary outreach to the Islamic world and apologia for (mythical) American sins would have ameliorated Islamist feelings. But they haven't. Instead, we've seen greater Islamist action, because they see Obama as weak.
Moreover, as hoped, Iraqi democracy is not only supported by the Iraqi majority (so, really, should we care that Islamist tyrants object?), but is stirring democratic rebellion in Iran.

You can't help but provide this nonsensical myth: “We failed to contian the Taliban and Al Queda in Afghanistan due to the appeasement of Govt's like Pakistan that are under the same political pressure as the rest of the Arab world in regards to condeming the spread of what is interpreted as colonizing their Holy land.”

So what, then, explains Islamist terror and war against Cambodia, India and Africa? What explains Islamist war and terror against Europe for century after century, only ceasing when Europe became a greater military power than Islamic lands?

“Second, nobody cares what the extreme left wing wants any more than the rest of the nation really cares what the extreme right wing wants.”

What you call “the extreme right” are those who support democracy and freedom and human rights globally. It is they who, knowing history, understand that when democracies stand still, tyranny advances, ultimately threatening those same democracies.

“The right wing want to pretend like the war policies approved in Congress belong to them and their President but they don't — not anymore than FDR and Trueman policies to blow the retards out of Japan and Germany belong to the Democrats only — they belong to the American people. through public opinion , representation, we the American people gave our government consent not the other way around. When you abuse that consent, then we take that consent away from you. ( we vote you out)”

Quite right. That's why it was nothing short of traitorous for the Democrats to vote for the Iraq war, then turn on Republicans over it for political reasons afterwards.
The right was voted out. Now that the consequences of that are becoming evident, The Democrats asre crashing in the polls and Obama – Obama! – declares that, son of a gun, we really are at war. Took a year, but by gosh, the kindergarten president has graduated to grade 7 reality. Another disastrous year or two and he may even be ready to lead.

The Nigerian idiot was the perfect candidate for being USED….easily manipulated, stupid, rich, spoiled, naive, indoctrinated, brainwashed…a useful idiot for the mass murderers…..Anyone who would willingly set off a fire bomb in their underwear on a jet has to be an idiot…only an idiot would do something like this. THe 9/11 hijackers were all extensively brainwashed and indoctrinated robo followers…..WHy is this so hard to understand? Submissive order followers come from a culture of coercive, compulsive conformism, stricit mechanical obedience to dogma,: these individuals are easily directed by patriarchal authority figures and do their bidding. Carry a bomb in your underwear, kill yourself and blow up a jet? No problem for the Nigerian….when arrested he also sang like a canary…because he is really a four year old in an adult body.

Just for starts, I Googled ” four folded increase terrorist” and you came in second only to the Washington Post in regarding this article:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar

It doesn't take a whole lot of effort to find the fallacies and distortions in your ill attempts to smear Obamas attempt to fix Bush's failures.

In your own words, the problem existed even in 2005 as this Washington Post article explains.

If I would bother to continue to study this search (I don't need to because I have enough common sense to know better) I will find that this has been the case since the beginning of our involvement.

Al-Queda, the Talaban, have evolved in their tactics way way before they chased the Soviets out of their land as well. In fact, this tactic is as old as war itself.

We are the occupier and they are the defender — we are at a huge disadvantage in that regard.

Bush's policies don't work and his surge is a band aid approach to a much bigger problem that will mushroom in due time.

We have to be far more intelligent in our diplomacy and the average American understood this last November.

  • DemocracyFirst

We're just go round in circles at this point, so it's time to leave things.
    But one comment:

    You say,
“We have to be far more intelligent in our diplomacy and the average
    American understood this last November.”

Yes, that's why Obama convinced Americans last November. But after a year of
utterly failed, even humiliating rejections from Iran and other Islamists,
both Obama and the American people are learning he was wrong. There is no
way to successfully negotiate with Islamists. Hence, why Obama has been
losing the confidence of Americans in these matters, and hence why is
    quickly changing his tune.

  • andrewnitzberg

“Creating terrorists”. This conclusion or assertion assumes an 'all-powerful United States' that can do anything.

This is silly. Other people, even Muslim terrorists, are powerful actors in their own lives and do things for their own purposes and their own reasons.

To suggest anything else is racist. All people, everywhere under every ideology or religion are free men who are powerful actors in their own lives.

To give credit or responsibility to the United States for terrorism is racist.
