Does President Obama really believe that 30% of the population of the state of Arizona is now afraid to visit ice cream parlors out of fear that a Gestapo-like police force will demand to see their papers?
It would be comical if it weren’t so serious, and if it didn’t involve the nation’s highest ranking law enforcement official showing a blatant disrespect for local police, but Obama’s remarks about Latinos being scared to go to ice cream parlors in Arizona are not comical, they are inflammatory and they are yet another example of fear-mongering from the crowd that decried fear-mongering during the presidency of George W. Bush.
Here is the actual quote from President Obama,
But now suddenly if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you’re going to be harassed, that’s something that could potentially happen.
President Obama is either uninformed about the current emergency facing the nation due to illegal immigration and the new Arizona immigration law or, as is almost certainly the case, he is playing politics with the situation in order to win the highly coveted Hispanic vote for his Party. In either case, his statement about Latinos being afraid to attend ice cream parlors in Arizona now that the new immigration law has passed border on the absurd, and his use of the phrase “don’t have your papers” can only be intended to hearken back to Nazi Germany.
Aren’t these the exact tactics that the Left is blaming on the Tea Party and on anyone in general who dares to disagree with their radical Progressive agenda? Comparisons to Hitler’s Germany and race-based arguments are the knee-jerk excuses used to vilify Obama’s opposition, and yet Obama seems able to use the very same arguments with impunity.
If the ridiculous mischaracterizations weren’t enough, wait… there’s more. Obama is continuing to show a disdain for the police that is reminiscent of 1960’s radicals who coined the term “pigs” to refer to law enforcement officers. As difficult as it may seem to believe that someone who has spent time with Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright might have a dislike for police officers, it seems to be true.
We all remember this Obama classic about the Cambridge police,
There is nothing in Arizona’s new law that would allow police to randomly stop by an ice cream parlor and begin harassing Hispanic patrons. I’m quite sure that eating ice cream does not constitute reasonable suspicion that someone is in the country illegally, and unlike the President I have confidence that police officers can make reasonable decisions about difficult issues just like they did every day before this law passed.
I went to a Baskin-Robbins here in Phoenix the other day just to see if there could possibly be any truth to Obama’s fear-laden tirade about Arizona’s immigration law SB 1070. Upon arriving I noticed that there were several Hispanics enjoying the ice cream and not a single police officer to be seen (Obama would probably say they were all at Dunkin Donuts).
I asked a Hispanic gentleman about the President’s remarks and got this response,
“Obama said that? I don’t like this law, but man, if he said that, that is some crazy sh#%”.
Despite President Chicken Little’s dire warnings, the Hispanic population of the state of Arizona continues to enjoy ice cream just like everyone else.
