Obama’s War Against Israel

There’s a joke making the rounds in my suburban Chicago neighborhood about the clash between the Obama administration and the Netanyahu government: Why did Vice-President Joe Biden get angry when Israel embarrassed him by announcing new construction in Jerusalem’s Ramat Shlomo neighborhood? Because it’s usually Biden’s job to embarrass himself.

The joke has carried on far too long. The tension between the two governments is being stoked by President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a deliberate attempt to weaken the coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If Israel had committed a real foul, the Obama administration could have used a quiet threat of public condemnation to force Israeli concessions, and the Netanyahu government would have little choice but to comply.

Instead, the Obama administration has turned a public relations snafu into a public test of Israeli sovereignty, leaving the Netanyahu government little choice but to resist. The neighborhood where 1600 homes were to be built is not a remote outpost. It is mere meters from the Green Line, in a part of East Jerusalem that is actually west of the Old City. It is likely to remain part of Israel in any future Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

The timing of the administration’s attack is unfortunate, for two reasons. One is that Iran continues to move towards becoming a nuclear power. Each day the U.S. and Israel spend on the Ramat Shlomo question is a day wasted, a day that ought to have been spent dealing with our common enemy.

The second reason is that thousands of pro-Israel activists will arrive in Washington, D.C., next week for the AIPAC policy conference. The contrived crisis is a provocation, a message to the grassroots representing the pro-Israel majority of Americans that bipartisan support for Israel is over.

Too late, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has tried to undo the damage that her 45-minute tirade against Netanyahu has done. She denied this week that there was any crisis at all. Yet, Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren–a historian who has chronicled the history of American involvement in the Middle East–has said that “Israel’s ties with the United States are in their worst crisis since 1975.” (Oren has since denied making that statement, but there can be little doubt that the sentiment is widely held among the Israeli leadership).

Riots broke out across Jerusalem yesterday, orchestrated by Palestinian leaders, who have linked the argument over settlement construction to Israel’s reconstruction of a synagogue in the Old City that was destroyed by Jordan after 1948. Their goal is to spark a third intifada by appealing to religious passions among Palestinians and throughout the Arab and Muslim worlds. If they succeed, the administration will not only have harmed U.S.-Israel ties, but it will also have sparked a new terrorist war that could threaten American interests.

As the White House escalates its attacks on Israel, the chorus of anti-Israel voices in Washington grows louder. In 2008, only 27 congressmen–almost all Democrats–could be found to vote against Israel’s Gaza offensive, Operation Cast Lead. In 2009, the anti-Israel ranks swelled to 39 in a vote on the Goldstone Report. And this year, 54 congressmen–all Democrats–signed a letter protesting the Israeli “blockade” of Gaza. Obama leads, and they follow.

The White House wants to make pro-Israel Americans decide: either an Israel within the 1949 armistice lines, or no Israel at all. It is a false choice, because the two options yield the same result. A forced retreat to the Green Line–rejected by U.N. Security Council Resolution 242, rejected by every previous U.S. President, and rejected over two decades of Israeli-Palestinian diplomacy–is an invitation to Israel’s enemies to press ever further.

It is time that pro-Israel activists turned the tables. We must make our elected officials decide: either continue with the current policy of appeasement, which finds new ways to separate the U.S. from Israel; or a policy of strength, which focuses on the values and interests the countries share. A world that is not safe for Jews and for Israel is not safe for America, either. That is the grim lesson of history and, under the Obama administration, we seem doomed to repeat it.

Joel B. Pollak is the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in the 9th district of Illinois.

Well,if you're expecting 'strength' from Barokeydoke Hubris Obozo, you may be waiting for quite a while

  • Bill Banyan

Historically illiterate, but sure to keep Mr Pollak on the right sided of AIPAC so he can realize his political dreams. But how shameful that he buys into the Israeli victim genre. But what is Mr Pollak's position on the settlements overall? What of the West Bank? Or is forever Judea and Samaria? Must the Arabs leave?

    • Robbins Mitchell

Nobody is asking or expecting Arabs to leave Judea and Samaria…you obviously have Israel confused with some Arab countries in the region who treat their Jewish population that way….I can understand your sympathy for the Fakestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, but even a committed Jew hater like yourself should realize that settlements are simply a natural consequence of the population growth in Israel…no less so than constructing 1600 new apartments in Jerusalem….so,clearly, there are some severe gaps in your education.

    • seels4truth

bill you seem to be the historically illiterate one. Would you consider Chicago a settlement? On a percentage basis Ephrat is bigger than Chicago yet you would consider it a "settlement". The use of the term settlement belittles the reality that these are well populated cities. Just as using the term "settlers" conveys a lawless expansion into "Arab" territory. It's just not true. Judea and Samaria are "disputed territories" and their status is to be determined upon final talks. But those talks will not happen until the Arabs realize the Jews are there to stay. According to the warped proposals being thrown at Israel all Jews MUST leave any future Arab state yet Arabs are free to live in Israel. I assume that a Jew hater such as you does not see the hate that is embedded in such proposals. Such a peace will never be a true peace.

  • Larry D. Crumbley

    Hello,
I am still amazed at how stupid some people are. The Arabs at the core of this discussion are, and still a Bedouin people. A nomadic type of people. They are where they are today because of the terrorist Arafat. He took them to the point in history to where they are today. There one main objective is to destroy Israel. They do not want to have the Jewish people to be as there neighbors. They want to control the entire HOLY-LAND. There ideas are to kill, and to kill more, and more of the Jewish people to where they have them in the palm of there hands. That way they can tell the Prime Minister of Israel we now have you where we want you, and you will do what we say. That is not going to happen. One way or another the Lord will protect HIS people. HE has never, never, let them down before. I can promise everybody that might read this with or without the help of this nation. Which I Pray will not happen the HOLY-LAND will be protected, and GOD'S elect people will prevail.

    Thanks,
    Larry D. Crumbley

    • Grayzell

Larry, thank you. You are correct. As a community organizer, Obama's goal here appears to be the same as his goals were in Chicago. Agitate, disrupt and redistribute. To those of us who studied the man his goals and principals are crystal clear.

    • Karim

Oh really, the Palestinians are nomads and Bedouin? Are you serious? When do you people ever stop bullshiting? The majority of the Palestinians are clearly distinct from the Bedouin,in Dialect,Appearance and culture. The Palestinians,Muslims,Druze,Samaritans and Christians are the only indigenous population of Palestine, the descendants of the Palestinians Jews who converted.Even Ben Gurion knew this fact. There is no real dispute about this fact.

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/cjk cjk

        No dispute on your 'facts'?
        Who's full of bullshit???

      • Raymond in DC

Your "facts" are anything but. Among the "Palestinians" must be counted the descendants of scores of thousands of Arab migrants *into* Mandate Palestine from today's Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the rest. This process began almost as soon as Jews began reclaiming and redeveloping the country and continued into the 1940s. The British, while restricting JEWISH immigration set no such restrictions on ARAB immigration. Some Jews no doubt converted to Islam over the centuries (who after all wants to live a second class status?), but there was always a Jewish presence. Indeed, The Jews have been the majority of Jerusalem for at least the last 150 years.

        • Karim

The problem with you conservatives that you live in a world all your own.The claim that the natives of Palestines are recent migrants has been put forward byJoan Peters in her book From Time Immemorial.Needless to say It has been utterly discredited, there is not a single historian worth his salt who wants to be caught dead with this nonsense. The idea that the british, seeing the conflicts between arabs and Jews, lifted restrictions on Arab migration is in itself so ridiculous that it merits no answer.

Buraq (as it appears on his birth real certificate) Hussein Obama is a clandestine Muslim based on his speeches and actions in the Middle Eats. As for the Palestinians, they are nothing more than the subsidized proxy terrorists of Iran who strap munitions on their own women and children and send them out on homicide-suicide missions to murder other women and children in markets, restuarants, and on school buses. The Palestinians have long ago forfeited their right to even exist.

WASHINGTON — The United States has diverted a shipment of bunker-busters designated for Israel. Officials said the U.S. military was ordered by President Obama to divert a shipment of smart bunker-buster bombs from Israel to a military base in Diego Garcia. They said the shipment of 387 smart munitions had been slated to join pre-positioned U.S. military equipment in Israel Air Force bases.

Oh just fantastic. Irsrael is denied weapons it has already paid for and Vladimir Putin, Russia’s prime minister, promised on Thursday that Moscow would help Iran complete a civil nuclear power station by this summer without a peep out of Buraq Hussein Obama.

  • Eugene

This is not a foreign policy error on the part of the Obama administration. This is intentional and deliberate. The administration is seeking to drive a wedge between it and Israel. The goal is to allow it to side openly with Israel's enemies and make it very dificult if not impossible for future administrations to go back to where they can support Israel at all. Once the break is achieved future administrations will avoid providing support for fear of alienating the Muslim states. This is already an issue, but it will be much worse once we've switched our support, especially because Obama's energy policy will make us even more dependant upon foreign oil.

Look for more of this in the future.

  • trickyblain

If FPM was around in '67, they would no doubt call the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty a "public relations SNAFU" as well.

    • Raymond in DC

Oh, rubbish. Multiple investigations by the Congress, the NSA and the Defense Department concluded the attack was an error made in the fog of war – just like the US attacks on Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan a few years ago or our own friendly fire incidents. Files – including pilot communication – declassified by Israel a few years ago only confirmed the attack was not deliberate. But guys like you will not let go of this libel.

      • trickyblain

Quite a difference between a solitary airstrike (e.g., American friendly fire on Canadian troops) and a prolonged (2 hour) attack involving aircraft and torpedo boats. The US Congress never investigated the attack on the Liberty once, let alone multiple times. It's the only major maritime incident in US history never investigated by Congress. The captain of the Liberty (kidd, who thought the attack intentional, pushed for one but it was never granted. Find a member of the crew of the liberty that echoes your sentiment; I'm far from a conspiracy nut. The ship was attacked by Mirages, after nearly eight hours of close flybys (the first around 5:45 am and continuing until the attack began around 2pm employing cannon, bombs and rockets. The use of cannon/rockets as well as the flybys tells us that the attackers were well within visual range of the giant markings on the ship, not to mention the large American flag. There’s a lot more to it, if you’d really to go there…
Hardly a case of libel, it’s a case of betrayal.

I have never seen more antisemitism in the USA than I do today.
I would have thought that 9/11 and the relentless insults and attacks hurled at us by the worshipers of the pedophile profit would have had the opposite effect, but maybe there's a form of cowardice at work here.
Even if the Jews had 'stolen' the land as the savages claim (in fact they have paid for it with both blood and money) I would still back them when I see how the savage murderous worshipers of the terrorist pedophile profit behave in comparison with the Israelis.
People that teach their children hatred and genocide before they can walk deserve nothing but true oppression till they change their ways.
Mohammedan society is worse than Nazi society and should be treated as such.

  • ViewPoint

Netanyahu agreed to a 10 month settlement freeze, but he clearly added that construction would continue in Jerusalem. For this, the U.S. administration praised Netanyahu. This praise was an acknowledgment of Netanyahu's unyielding position on Jerusalem and the equivalent of an acceptance of Netanyahu's terms that included concessions on Samaria and Judea. Was it just airhead Biden that forgot the accepted terms and subsequent praise, or did obam also forget? Shortly before the Biden Israel visit, he foolishly admitted that Vice Presidents don't do anything. Does this indicate he doesn't even bother to read the news? Either incompetent obam also forgot, or Biden just stepped on his own peter again, and the administration made the most of it by creating an artificially generated crisis to placate Israel's enemies (Iran, in particular).

  • 9-11 Infidel

I wish the Obaminites and their erstwhile legion of anti-semite allies would just put on their Nazi uniforms and start goose-stepping. They can join their allies in Hamas who love to goosestep and render the Hitler salute. Why hide what they are any longer.

Introducing America's new Busby Berkeley. Nothing could be more obvious than the well-scripted and potentially rehearsed choreographed dance by Obama's team.

The simple fact that the entire Obama team, including their choreographer, danced the same steps and sang the same tune, all well syncronized without pause, indicates a rehearsed plan with clear goals. The fact that it came immediatey after Biden came calling to Israel to proclaim a permanent, strong relationship of friendship, smacks of duplicity and fraud. How can Israel trust an American leadership that so quickly turns avowed friendship into open hostility?

Whatever the cause, it should have been handled diplomatically and more privately. But by going "live" and doing so with an openly hostile attitude, followed by new "demands," Obama will have much less influence on both Israel and the Middle East. His attack on one of America's democratic allies, one surrounded by despotism, is only proof of America's slide into aimlessness. He has handled Iran's calls for genocide with near silence and requests for more "talk," yet turns an Israeli internal affair into a pretext for hostility.

    PRETRIB RAPTURE POLITICS

Many are still unaware of the eccentric, 180-year-old British theory underlying the politics of American evangelicals and Christian Zionists.
Journalist and historian Dave MacPherson has spent more than 40 years focusing on the origin and spread of what is known as the apocalyptic "pretribulation rapture" – the inspiration behind Hal Lindsey's bestsellers of the 1970s and Tim LaHaye's today.
Although promoters of this endtime evacuation from earth constantly repeat their slogan that "it's imminent and always has been" (which critics view more as a sales pitch than a scriptural statement), it was unknown in all official theology and organized religion before 1830.
And MacPherson's research also reveals how hostile the pretrib rapture view has been to other faiths:
It is anti-Islam. TV preacher John Hagee has been advocating "a pre-emptive military strike against Iran." (Google "Roots of Warlike Christian Zionism.")
It is anti-Jewish. MacPherson's book "The Rapture Plot" (see Armageddon Books etc.) exposes hypocritical anti-Jewishness in even the theory's foundation.
It is anti-Catholic. Lindsey and C. I. Scofield are two of many leaders who claim that the final Antichrist will be a Roman Catholic. (Google "Pretrib Hypocrisy.")
It is anti-Protestant. For this reason no major Protestant denomination has ever adopted this escapist view.
It even has some anti-evangelical aspects. The first publication promoting this novel endtime view spoke degradingly of "the name by which the mixed multitude of modern Moabites love to be distinguished, – the Evangelical World." (MacPherson's "Plot," p. 85)
Despite the above, MacPherson proves that the "glue" that holds constantly in-fighting evangelicals together long enough to be victorious voting blocs in elections is the same "fly away" view. He notes that Jerry Falwell, when giving political speeches just before an election, would unfailingly state: "We believe in the pretribulational rapture!"
In addition to "The Rapture Plot," MacPherson's many internet articles include "Famous Rapture Watchers," "Pretrib Rapture Diehards," "Edward Irving is Unnerving," "America's Pretrib Rapture Traffickers," "Thomas Ice (Bloopers)," "Pretrib Rapture Secrecy" and "Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty" (massive plagiarism, phony doctorates, changing of early "rapture" documents in order to falsely credit John Darby with this view, etc.!).
Because of his devastating discoveries, MacPherson is now No. 1 on the "hate" list of pretrib rapture leaders!
There's no question that the leading promoters of this bizarre 19th century end-of-the-world doctrine are solidly pro-Israel and necessarily anti-Palestinian. In light of recently uncovered facts about this fringe-British-invented belief which has always been riddled with dishonesty, many are wondering why it should ever have any influence on Middle East affairs.
This Johnny-come-lately view raises millions of dollars for political agendas. Only when scholars of all faiths begin to look deeply at it and widely air its "dirty linen" will it cease to be a power. It is the one theological view no one needs!
With apologies to Winston Churchill – never has so much deception been foisted on so many by so few!

…Instead, the Obama administration has turned a public relations snafu into a public test of Israeli sovereignty, leaving the Netanyahu government little choice but to resist….

It seems the other way around. It is the US Government that had no choice. Not to have responded to the announcement would have signaled to the rest of the world that the Israeli Government can get away with almost any provocation. This would have severely compromised America's role as a powerbroker and overseer of peace negotiations. To expect the US to have ignored this is utterly unrealistic.

If they succeed, the administration will not only have harmed U.S.-Israel ties, but it will also have sparked a new terrorist war that could threaten American interests….

Incredibly, this seems to suggest that Palestinian riots were encouraged or sparked by the US Administration. Since when do they take their stone-throwing cues from Washington?”

Joel is clearly a bright guy and will make his mark. But like most politicians, he appears to have selected his argument and then interpreted the facts in a way that support it.

I am a Jew, an Israeli supporter and one with family in the country. I yearn for peace in the Middle East. I do not believe the Israeli Government's actions and attitudes, nor those of its most passionate supporters in the West are best suited for realizing this goal.

  • InMyOpinion

I could not agree less with Joel's views expressed here.

The Biden joke seeks to diminish the degree of humiliation that was imposed on the US Administration. To embarrass your chief ally and supporter is a dangerous practice. US patience with the Israeli Government is not infinite.

“If Israel had committed a real foul…”

I think to act in an area that will be the subject of future negotiations is a foul, even if the area is only meters from the Green Line. At some stage one side or the other has to break the cycle of mistrust by taking a principled stand and demonstrating an intention to negotiate seriously. Expanding construction in contested territories constitues the very opposite.

…The Obama administration could have used a quiet threat of public condemnation to force Israeli concessions, and the Netanyahu government would have little choice but to comply….

Well the actuality of public condemnation has seen no compliance so why would the mere threat of it had any more effect?

As you all know, Donald Trump made a big deal about Obama's birth certificate. As of yesterday, the White House released the birth certificate.

I will tell you right now that I had never given this "birther" issue any credit. I watched the hype and the crazies come out. I completely dismissed the entire ordeal altogether. In fact, it was not until the White House released the birth certificate that it had gained my attention.

I am the studious sort of guy, and I have plenty of time on my hands. So, I took a close look at this document. While I would have thought that this issue would have been closed for good (and, got the crazies to crawl back into their holes), I found two extremely strange inconsistencies that merit some attention.

First of all, the birth certificate that the White House released lists Obama's birth as August 4, 1961. It also lists Barack Hussein Obama as his father. No big deal, right? At the time of Obama's birth, it also shows that his father is aged 25 years old, and that Obama's father was born in " Kenya , East Africa ". This wouldn't seem like anything of concern, except the fact that Kenya did not even exist until 1963, two whole years after Obama's birth, and 27 years after his father's birth. How could have Obama's father have been born in a country that did not yet exist? Up and until Kenya was formed in 1963, it was known as the "British East Africa Protectorate". But, this is not the only thing that I found that just does not jive.

The other item that I looked into was the hospital that Obama was born in. On the birth certificate released by the White House, the listed place of birth is "Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital". This cannot be, because the hospital(s) in question in 1961 were called "KauiKeolani Children's Hospital" and "Kapi'olani Maternity Home", respectively. The name did not change to Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until 1978, when these two hospitals merged. How can this particular name of the hospital be on a birth certificate dated 1961 if this name had not yet been applied to it until 1978?

Go ahead, look it up. I am not talking crazy talk, these are the facts. Like I said, I thought that this was a non-issue until the actual certificate was released. Now that it has been released, of course I had to look into it. I have found these issues, now I know that something is up. If you doubt me, just look at the following resources:

Sure as hell, the hospital part is true, as you can read about the 1978 merger here.

Who the heck did he payoff now with our TAX Dollars to print this Bogus Certificate??……
