American Press Corps Again Misses The Target In C.I.A. Bombing Investigation

I just can not stay away from the story of the December 30 suicide bombing at a C.I.A. base in Khost, Afghanistan, which killed seven American C.I.A. agents, injured six others, and killed al-Balawi’s “handler” Sharif Ali bin-Zeid, a Captain in the Jordanian intelligence service. Maybe there’s still some police detective left in me, even nearly eight years after retirement.

The bomber, Humam Khalil Abu Mulal al-Balawi (photo above from AP file), was a physician and known Jordanian al-Qaeda operative, recruited by the Jordanian government to assist in the C.I.A.’s hunt for Usama din-Laden’s number one henchman, Ayman al-Zawahiri

The six questions a competent criminal or journalistic investigation should answer are Who, What, When, Where, How and Why. There has been considerable media follow-up to the particulars of where, and how this attack happened, and who did it.  We know it happened on December 30, 2009.

But once again, ladies and gentlemen, our Press Corps has abjectly and through willful ignorance missed the big target painted on the side of the barn.  What continues to be absent from news coverage of this story is any journalistic curiosity, investigation, understanding or explanation of the underlying motivation, the Why, for attacks like the bombing in Khost.  The glaring media omission of one word has been pointed out innumerable times in the writings of Mark Steyn, Hugh Fitzgerald, and Frank Gaffney.  I am going to point it out again.  The Why that never gets covered is the word Islam.

Today’s news follow-up piece that caught my eye chronicles an ante-mortem video broadcast post-mortem yesterday by the Arab TV network Al-Jazeera, showing al-Balawi scoffing at the idea that he might be an American or Jordanian agent, and calling for revenge for the death of a Pakistani Taliban honcho who was killed by an American missile strike. Other reports have concentrated on the logistics of the attack, the failure to search al-Balawi before he entered the base, the planning, the al-Qaida-Taliban connections, how the bomber was recruited, where he was recruited – everything but a deeper probe into the Muslim ideology that drove this man to do what he did, and Why we are really at War.

Pamela Constable at The Washington Post today gives us this report:

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — A videotape made by the Jordanian suicide bomber who killed seven CIA operatives in Afghanistan last month called on Muslim holy warriors to avenge the death of Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud, who was killed by an American drone attack in August. The tape, released Saturday by the Pakistani Taliban, confirmed the group’s central role in the Dec. 30 bombing of a CIA base in Afghanistan, one of the deadliest attacks ever on American intelligence personnel. The tape showed the bomber, Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, with Mehsud’s young successor, Hakimullah Mehsud, presumably somewhere in Pakistan’s lawless tribal region.

“We will never forget the blood of our emir Baitullah Mehsud,” Balawi said on the tape, using the title that means leader of the Muslim faithful and calling on Muslims worldwide to attack U.S. targets in retaliation. “We will always demand revenge for him inside America and outside.”

Balawi, a medical doctor who had been cultivated by the CIA, was apparently a double agent for al-Qaeda. He was attending a meeting at a CIA camp in Afghanistan’s Khost province, where he had promised to provide information about senior al-Qaeda leaders, when he blew himself up, killing the seven Americans. A Jordanian intelligence captain who worked with the informant also was killed.

Leaders of the Pakistani Taliban, an armed group that seeks to impose strict Islamic rule on the country of 170 million, said last week that they had trained Balawi and sent him to Afghanistan, where U.S. and NATO troops are fighting Afghan Taliban forces. But until Saturday, there was no public evidence of their ties to the Jordanian doctor or his attack on the CIA base.

In the video, broadcast by the al Jazeera network and by Pakistani cable TV channels in both Arabic and English versions, Balawi belittled the idea that he had been an agent for U.S. and Jordanian intelligence, saying that “the emigrant for God will not put his religion on the bargaining table.”

The jihad rolls on.  The end of the game in the enemy’s mind is the subjugation or conversion of all non-believers (Infidels), to Islam and to live under Sharia.

We are given three choices by the jihad movement:

1.  Answer the call to Islam and covert or…

2.  Become second-class citizens (dhimmi) under Islamic rulers and pay the jizya, or tribute tax or…

3.  Refusing the first two options we must fight for our very survival, because Muhammad gave his followers the green light – no – a standing order to kill us one and all.

Our Press Corps unbelievably continues to refuse to examine this doctrine.  Until there is some sort of awakening in the media as to what Islamic law really says, the big Why about attacks such as the one on our C.I.A. base in Khost, Afghanistan will never be addressed – and the American public will remain confused about why we are still at War.
