Hissy Fit On The “View”

Co-hosts of ABCs The View Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg had a hissy fit yesterday. Not able to intelligently argue their point of view with their guest Bill O’Reilly concerning the Park 51 mega mosque/community center controversy, they walked off the stage in a huff.

O’Reilly had criticized President Obama for not commenting on the “appropriateness” of the mosque location so close to Ground Zero and cited a CNN poll showing that 70% of the American people did not think that the proposed location was appropriate. Behar displayed her usual foolishness by refusing to even acknowledge the sensitivity of the issue to a majority of Americans.

Then, when O’Reilly pointed out that those who attacked us on 9/11 were all Muslims, all hell broke loose.

As if to correct O’Reilly’s reference to Muslims, Whoopi Goldberg exclaimed, “Extremists! Extremists!”  Then, Behar and Goldberg stood up and walked off the set.

Barbara Walters remained on the set with her guest. She chastised her colleagues for leaving but also told O’Reilly that he,

cannot take a whole religion and demean them.

O’Reilly ate some humble pie and apologized, which he should not have done. Later, on “The O’Reilly Factor,” he tried to portray himself as standing up against the politically correct whitewashing of Islamic ideology, but that’s not quite the way he ended up coming across on The View.

When Behar and Goldberg returned to the set, they should have apologized to their guest for their tantrum and opened their ears to hear another viewpoint. Instead, they prefered wallowing in their own leftist bias.

As Laura Ingraham pointed out on The O’Reilly Factor, Behar has attacked Christians and Catholics on her show with regularity but is offended when the indisputable fact that Muslims attacked us on 9/11 is said aloud.

Yes, the Al Qaeda terrorists are extremists but they are acting in the name of Islam.  If there were enough true moderate Muslims around the world with the courage to speak out against the supremacist, misogynist ideology that underlies fundamentalist sharia (Islamic law) and inevitably leads to violence, then the “extremists” would not have the influence in the Muslim world they do today.

But political correctness does not permit such truth-telling. Behar and Goldberg are simply following the example of the Obama administration, which refuses to use Islam and terrorism in the same sentence and rejects the use of the term “jihad” to describe acts of Islamic-inspired terror.

Acknowledging that Muslims attacked us on 9/11 or using the phrase “Islamic terrorists” to describe our enemies does not mean that we regard all Muslims as terrorists. But it would mean telling the truth, rather than hiding behind politically correct euphemisms.
