Obama Is Drowning In Oil And Red Ink

The Obama administration is sinking, along with the fortunes of the Gulf coast states caught in the continuing devastation from the oil spill, which the Obama administration has allowed to get worse, and with the weight of our national debt that is growing by leaps and bounds.
A month and a half after the Gulf oil spill began, 69 percent in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll rate the federal response negatively. More people are disproving of the Obama administration’s response than they were on the Bush administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina.
President Obama’s response has been tough talk, but little action. He told Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today Show” that:
I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.
Obama is not even rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, let alone changing course. As far as we know, only Elizabeth Birnbaum, the director of the Minerals Management Service, has resigned her position. At his press conference a couple of weeks ago, Obama told reporters that he was not even aware of her resignation. Why hasn’t her boss, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, followed her out the door? Or how about the bozo Homeland Security chief, Janet Napolitano?
While BP focuses on stopping the leak, why couldn’t the federal government mobilize all necessary resources and lead the clean-up effort? Why the long delays in approving Louisiana’s request for federal permission to build sand barriers? Why all of the federal bureaucratic hurdles in the way of burning off oil and using dispersants? Obama is letting the environmentalist lobby lead him by the nose.
Obama is quick to condemn BP – which certainly deserves to be condemned and held fully accountable for all damages arising from the spill - but has not once spoken with its CEO to work towards putting together a joint plan to solve the problem before it gets even worse. Obama has made three photo- op trips to the Gulf, but had to make sure that he was back in Washington in time to hear Paul McCartney and Kelly Clarkson perform at the White House and Ford’s Theater.
Meanwhile, the federal government’s red ink is growing exponentially under Obama. This month it rose past $13 trillion for the first time ever. According to a report on Bloomberg.com, the federal government’s total debt is poised to overtake our country’s annual economic output – the Gross Domestic Product – in 2012, based on forecasts by the International Monetary Fund.
In fairness, Obama inherited a large federal debt and he certainly can’t be held responsible for the explosion that caused the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. But Obama did worsen the debt situation considerably through his massive spending, which shows no sign of slowing, and he has been a passive-aggressive observer rather than a real hands-on leader in addressing the aftermath of the Gulf oil spill.
