On the O’Reilly Factor: The Left Versus The American People

Not that we really needed more demonstrations of the Left’s arrogant disdain for the American people, but we keep getting them.

The Left has turned viciously on their erstwhile champion Barack Obama. Though kicking and screaming, Obama finally did something that the American people – but not his Leftist base – approved of. He agreed to a two-year extension of the current income tax rates for everyone and concessions on the death tax as part of a compromise package  that extended long-term unemployment insurance benefits and other breaks for the lower and middle classes.

Progressive members of the Democratic caucuses in both the House and Senate are balking at going along with the compromise. The self-described socialist Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, called the compromise a “moral outrage” and has threatened a filibuster.  They would rather cut off unemployment insurance, kill household budgets with higher taxes for everyone, and ensure a double-dip recession than allow those who currently pay approximately 40% of the total amount of federal income taxes going into the government’s coffers keep the same tax rates that they have had for nearly a decade.

Perhaps the most ludicrous example of the screwball Left was on display on the “O’Reilly Factor” last night. O’Reilly interviewed Erica Payne, the founder of a group calling itself The Agenda Project, which told its supporters to jam phone lines at the White House to protest Obama’s tax compromise. What O’Reilly neglected to tell his audience is that Erica Payne had previously co-founded the Democracy Alliance, a George-Soros funded project whose partners have invested over $100 million in progressive organizations. Payne is the author of The Practical Progressive: How to Build a 21st Century Political Movement, which Jonathan Alter of Newsweek called “a blueprint for a progressive conspiracy to help save the country.”

As for the multi-billionaire sanctimonious Leftist, George Soros, he thinks that the American people are so stupid that they are being led into a “dictatorial democracy” (whatever that is) by Fox News, Glenn Beck and the Tea Party movement. The comments were made to CNN newsman Fareed Zakaria at an International Crisis Center dinner honoring Soros. According to a report of the conversation by Forbes writer Robert Lenzner, Soros used George Orwell’s anti-communist book “1984” to chide Americans for fantasizing unrealistically about their political system.

Lenzner wrote:

Soros was especially bitter and harshly critical of the rolke [sic] played in our political discourse by the Fox News Channel. Soros reportedly described Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. as a very dangerous precedent for the ‘open society’ that has prevailed in the U.S. for 200 years. Soros called Beck a throwback to the wild and crazy radical elements that never before were given such a public pedestal to foment their hate.

That’s rich. After spending millions of dollars to try and get Beck off the air and to shut down  Fox News, Soros is now warning that we must be protected from free speech lest some sort of dictatorship will follow.

In other words, we are too stupid to think for ourselves. That is the Left’s mantra in a nutshell.

Joseph Klein is the author of a new book entitled Lethal Engagement: Barack Hussein Obama, the United Nations and Radical Islam.
