Terrorist Advocates Inside The Justice Department

When President Obama delivers his State of the Union Address tonight, he will no doubt try to convince us how committed he is to fighting the war against al Qaeda.  Under his Orwellian logic, giving Khalid Sheik Mohammed and his cohorts a civil trial in New York City is all part of some grand master plan to smother the terrorists to death with the blanket of constitutional protections.  And why subject the Christmas Day underwear bomber to CIA-style interrogation when we can get his cooperation down the road through a plea bargain arrangement negotiated with his lawyers?

Only if Obama truly reverses the insane mindset that treats al Qaeda terrorists like garden variety criminal defendants will he be taking the first step toward securing our homeland against more terrorist attacks.  And he can start by firing the terrorist advocates inside the Department of Justice, beginning with Attorney General Eric Holder himself.  Then he can ax some of the subversives who have joined Holder in turning our legal system against ourselves.

For example, the New York Post reports that a hard left activist for terrorist rights, Jennifer Daskal, is now in the Justice Department’s National Security Division working on detainee issues.

Here is what this former “senior counter-terrorism counsel” at Human Rights Watch had to say in response to the announcement back in 2007 by Khalid Sheik Mohammed and his fellow al Qaeda members at Gitmo of their intention to confess:

In light of the men’s severe mistreatment, the judge should require a full and thorough factual inquiry to determine whether or not these pleas are voluntary.

Now, with the help of terrorist advocates like Ms. Daskal inside the Justice Department, Mohammed and his friends will get a chance for a do-over in front of a federal civil court judge and jury.

When it comes to allegations of detainee torture, the Justice Department’s National Security Division specialist on detainee issues has a place in her heart for an aspiring terrorist self-styled poet whom she said:

found it was nearly impossible to write poetry anymore because the prison guards would only allow him to keep a pen or pencil in his cell for short periods of time.

Oh, the poor thing.  The world is being deprived of another Robert Frost in the making!

If President Obama tells us tonight that he is reversing the decisions to give the al Qaeda terrorists a civil trial and that he will rid his administration of terrorist advocates, then he will demonstrate his resolve to treat the terrorists as enemies of war.  Until then, it’s just more rhetoric from the teleprompter reader- in- chief.
