Chris Matthews played Joe McCarthy today on Hardball. Furiously commenting on Glenn Beck’s rally taking place today in Washington DC, he went absolutely berserk.
“Who stole America? I want to know, who stole America? Give me the names. Who stole America?”
It’s striking that he doesn’t know the answer to his own question. And it shows how out of touch the media elites and the political class really are with the American people. Who stole America? The Progressive Left stole America, Chris. And it didn’t start with Barack Obama becoming president. It more likely started in the early part of this century. The election of Barack Obama just put it on a fast track.
Policies put into place in the last 18 months brought the American people out of their stupor. Just as the attacks on 9/11 woke up the country, the policies of the progressive left put into place recently have caused us to believe that our values are being stolen. President Obama put the government in charge of student loans, took over the auto industry, instituted health care “reform” which forces Americans to buy insurance and pay more for it, vastly increased the federal government, surrounded himself with radicals in the White House, has done nothing to create an environment for jobs to be added in the private sector, has put a cloak of protection around all the unions, has outlawed the use of terms such as “War On Terror” and “Islamo Fascism,” put a ban on drilling in the Gulf which will make us more dependent on foreign oil and cost us much needed jobs, has spent trillions of dollars we don’t have, and has single handedly made George Bush look frugal in comparison to his own policies.
In other words, Chris, we think he’s not only ruined the country, but he’s stolen it from us. And it has nothing to do with his race. Obama is a big government guy, hell bent on “social justice” and believes in the redistribution of wealth. He’d be that way regardless of his color, because it’s his ideology. The leftists can continue to make it a race issue because they can’t argue the substance, but no one’s buying it anymore.
Matthews detests Glenn Beck as evidenced by the discussion in the video. He’s incredulous that so many people agree with Beck’s call for taking back what’s been stolen from us. He’s infuriated that Beck has been focusing on civil rights and how African Americans have made huge contributions to the American experience, because that’s not Beck’s job. That’s supposed to be the job of Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson, and Van Jones, and Barack Obama, and the Progressive Left.
Ooops. Beck must have stepped over the line this time. He hijacked the work of the left, and now he’s going to pay for it. Matthews should take some lessons from Beck, and walk the walk, instead of just talking the talk.
