The ADL: First they came for Rush Limbaugh…

Posted By Kathy Shaidle On April 26, 2010 @ 12:07 pm In NewsReal Blog | No Comments

Back in January, Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) bizarrely accused Rush Limbaugh of anti-semitism. (Yeah, I know…)

Foxman picked a big target, and got blasted for it — not incidentally, because they purposely misrepresented what Rush said. (Yeah, I know…).

Now the ADL is going after smaller fish. I don’t mean the fact that they’re on record as “delighted” by the ban on Downfall parodies (“We find them offensive,” sniffed Foxman). No, the ADL just has issued a report, calling for a “major law enforcement” operation to monitor and possibly arrest, anonymous anti-Obama commenters on obscure websites.

From the report “Violent Voices”:

…the new extremist narrative – also supported [sic] conspiracist radio ideologues – is that the recently passed law is part of a more nefarious effort to institute “socialism” or “fascism”—or worse. Many on the anti-government right have asserted that the health care reform effort is in fact key to evil efforts to implement a tyrannical government by any means necessary. For such people, the specific measures of the bill are almost irrelevant; it is the bill itself that symbolizes a dark future for America.

During the first few months of 2010, anti-government extremism has taken on a new level of intensity in the United States. The arrests of the Hutaree militia in Michigan illustrate this passion, which exists both within and outside the militia movement. Unfortunately, the Hutaree arrests may come to be seen not as the culmination, but rather as a first step in what may need to become a major national law enforcement operation.

First off, the Hutaree were a) turned in by another militia (without an assist from the ADL or any other “progressive” watchdog group like the Southern Poverty Law Center) and b) included at least one registered Democrat.

Secondly, this new report is based entirely on anonymous blatherings on websites you’ve never heard of.

Up here in Canada, self-appointed censors  have made careers (literally) out of trolling “extremist” chat rooms and transcribing every “racist” or politically incorrect comment. The result? Just breathe in the sheer unadulterated fabulousness:

The sole Internet post on which Mr Lemire was found “guilty” was one called “Aids secrets”. It was seen by a total of eight people within the Dominion of Canada  — or nought-point-eight of a Canadian per province, or 0.61538 if one includes territories. However, you’ve got to reckon that maybe two-to-three of those eight views were from [former Canadian Human Rights Commission employee turned freelance online "Nazi hunter"] Richard Warman trying to figure out how many thousands of bucks he could get by suing over it; another two views came from the Canadian “Human Rights” Commission; a couple more came from Bernie Farber’s [Canadian Jewish Congress] and B’nai Brith; and maybe the sole remaining view came from Mr Lemire just after posting to check that it was formatted and displaying correctly.

In other words, no one in Canada saw this post. The only reason we know how “offensive” it is is because of the publicity given to it by Warman and the CHRC dress-up Nazis. Mr Lemire is not a threat to Canadians. [Human Rights Commission] Commissar Lynch and Richard Warman are.

As for Bernie Farber, for some reason he thinks an unread website is a threat to Jews in Canada, and not the ever swelling tide of daily, routine, widely accepted Jew hatred from what is a, ahem, non-white supremacist source. The “Official Jews” (in Ezra [Levant's] designation) have proved not merely useless against the new anti-Semitism, but in their pursuit of irrelevances and distractions are actually abetting it. Jews of all people should be no fans of government censorship.

But wait, there’s more: the Canadian Human Rights Commission was so proud of its “victory” over the imminent Nazi takeover of Canada that they reprinted that offending “AIDS Secrets” post on their own website. A Government of Canada website, created and maintained with my extorted tax dollars:

PS Kathy Shaidle points out the obvious flaw in the logic here: The offending material was removed from the website years ago, but the Canadian “Human Rights” Tribunal has now reposted it all, and in a much more prominent venue. In other words, Canada’s biggest disseminator of Internet hate is the Government of Canada.

At least the ADL isn’t getting government money (are they?) to somewhat gleefully reprint the “offensive” comments they discovered while scraping the bottom of the internet barrel. But don’t feel too smug, America. What’s happening in Canada could happen in America, too. Don’t think your First Amendment will protect you; a glance at a few Supreme Court decisions from the last few decades should relieve you of that delusion.

Time will tell how the ADL will react to this “joke” from Obama’s National Security Adviser, General James Jones:
