Hanging Israel Out to Dry

Vice President Joe Biden, wrong on virtually every major foreign policy issue since his election to the Senate in 1972, nailed this one: He warned that actors on the international stage would test the new, inexperienced President.

He knew that President Barack Obama’s enemies would perceive his strength-through-peace (versus peace-through-strength) approach as weakness. They do and are acting accordingly.

Candidate Obama vowed to hold high-level talks with Iran and North Korea without “preconditions.” Obama promised a “reset” of all things President George W. Bush, with no more talk of “victory” in Iraq and Afghanistan. He reneged on the promised missile shield defense in Poland and the Czech Republic. He waits for countries like China and Russia, both of which have business interests in Iran, to agree to “tough, crippling” sanctions.

The President dropped the term “war on terror” and refuses to call Islamofascists “Islamofascists.” He apologetically says America is vital in maintaining world peace “whether we like it or not.” He sent a videotaped message to Iran telling of our willingness to re-engage the country — if only it would unclench its fist. It unclenched more time for Iran to pursue a nuclear bomb. The administration was painfully slow to acknowledge that the Times Square truck bomb attempt involved foreign Islamic terrorists.

The administration chastised Israel for settlement construction in an area of east Jerusalem that President Bill Clinton, President George W. Bush and even Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat assumed would be part of Israel in any peace agreement. During Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s state visit, Obama treated him worse than a White House dinner gate-crasher.

How’s the hope and change working out?

North Korea, in an act of war, sank a South Korean ship. Iran may now have sufficient materiel and technical knowledge to build a nuclear bomb. The Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah — under the nose of United Nations “peacekeepers” — continues to stock southern Lebanon with weapons that threaten Israel.

Now comes the anti-Israel “humanitarian” flotilla.

After Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza, the terror group Hamas seized power. Israel and Egypt began a naval blockade of ships in and out of Gaza. Though Israel had uprooted every Israeli settler from Gaza, Hamas fired thousands of rockets into Israel, a bombardment that continues today.

Israel already sends humanitarian aid into Gaza and allows others to do so.

Israel even agreed to allow the supposed humanitarian flotilla cargo to enter, provided Israeli security could check it for weapons. And never mind that some of the flotilla’s “humanitarian activists” appear to have ties to terror organizations.

The flotilla’s attempt to run the blockade resulted in nine deaths when the Israeli military boarded ships to inspect the cargo. As Israel’s enemies hoped, Israel stands accused of a “disproportionate” response.

But why the flotilla now?

The most significant intervening event is the election of President Obama. Now Israel’s most important ally considers Israeli intransigence the principal obstacle to peace with the Palestinians in particular and in the Middle East in general. The activists got the message: Israel is on the defensive.

Israel, with good reason, feels alone.

Obama, like Bush in his second term, seems willing to accept a nuclear-armed Iran — even as Iran threatens Israel with annihilation. Obama apparently considers a nuclear-armed Iran inevitable, even if it ignites a regional nuclear arms race — since Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan fear Iran more than they do Israel.

Give Obama credit for continuing many of Bush’s policies. Gitmo remains open, the administration finally understanding that the prison exists for a reason. He continued rendition, the terror surveillance program and the increased use of drone predators in Pakistan. He used the same “state secrets” argument to fight courtroom disclosure of sources and methods. He increased troop strength in Afghanistan and continues the Bush “clear and hold” strategy for that country and Iraq.

But Jimmy Carter governed as a strength-through-peace president. He pressured the Shah of Iran to release “political prisoners.” The shah was toppled, only to be followed by the repressive and threatening Islamic Republic of Iran. Carter urged Americans to abandon their “inordinate fear of communism.” Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev considered Carter weak and rewarded him by invading Afghanistan. This triggered a chain reaction from which the world continues to suffer. The Arabs and Muslims who fought to expel the Soviet Union then turned on the United States and the West in a grand plan for an Islamic world.

Israel’s response to the flotilla was an act of self-defense. The Western world’s reaction has been shameful. Western countries once again fail to distinguish the arsonist from the firefighter.

In 1962, the United States imposed a naval blockade — a “quarantine” — on Cuba. What would we have done to a “humanitarian” flotilla determined to help Fidel Castro place Soviet missiles 90 miles from Florida?

You are dead wrong! Israel is the only democratic country in the Middle East. A beautiful country, a country who God gave to the Jewish people.

Israel will be strong because God will strengthen her people and she will be victorious over her enemies!

There are many people around the world who love Israel and pray for Israel!

Ron Grant you are dead wrong!

Israel is the only democratic country in the Middle East. A beautiful country, a country which God gave to the Jewish people, and it is documented in the Old Testament.

Israel will be strong because God will strengthen her people, and she will be victorious over her enemies!

There are many people around the world who love Israel and pray for Israel! They are people who know that we are to bless Israel and God's Chosen People and we will be blessed, and those who curse Israel and God's Chosen People will be cursed!

Except it isn't so beautiful when examined in the light of day, under the microscope.A beautiful country yes, when you exclude the many Palestinians denied their birthright and homeland, living in misery outside the wall so Jews can live in the beauty you suggest. You make me sick. How can you talk of beauty and exclude so much of humanity.Reminds me of the Nazi officers in the death camps "appreciating" the beauty of music, some of it Jewish.Muchiboy

It just thoroughly amazes me how people can so easily forget history to stick their head up their a**. The Hebrews (Jews) where there about 8,000 BC, it's been their homeland for awhile. Palastine is what Pontius Pilate called an area on a Roman Map, an area to maintain the Jews. So much for history, now the muslims, your calling people who kill anyone trying to leave the "religion" good? You call people who teach their children to hate anyone who's not of the same religion good??? Your calling the people who systematically killed and tried to erase several races and cultures good??? Sorry dude you need professional mental help.

To Ron Grant: You would not see the truth about Israel whether it was given to you as a handshake or it was smashed over your head. You seem as myopic in your mindset as those Islamics are after their first 15 years of only the Koranic view of the world. There is no hope for you I'm afraid.

Israel was right to do what it did; it just did it the wrong way. Many if not most Israelis agree. It's just the hardliner crybabies who can't even admit the mistake.

The problem is that Israel gets so much flack from all sides, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. So I think sometimes the leadership says "Screw it, we'll do the expedient thing, since we'll be condemned for it anyway."

Tell us how you really feel, you Jew hating dummy. The issue has to do with oil. We and our Western friends would sell our souls for oil. Obama being spineless will one day regret not stopping Iran. Europe will be speaking Arabic as a first language in the not-so-distant future. The Arabs didn't own that land, it was part of the Ottoman Empire and then after WW1, it was controlled by Britian. From the Treaty of Verseilles on, the Jews were promised their homeland. Although it was much smaller than originally promised, the Jews said yes to their tiny parcel and the Arabs said no to theirs.

Nice words but utter BS. Those who try to divorce anti-Zionism and antisemitism are at best self-deluded and at worst playing a game of malevolent deception.

The Jews as a people can not survive without Israel and Israel's detractors know that. Aside from a few leftists and useful idiots, Jews around the world overwhelmingly support Israel.

Whenever a wave of anti-Israel hysteria sweeps the world (as is happening now), there is an accompanying wave of antisemitism – desecration of graves, synagogues, attacks of overtly recognisable Jews in the streets.

All Jewish day schools in my city are manned at the gates by armed security guards. What other ethnic group needs that sort of protection for their children at school? The children are often taunted by other school children on their way home. Soccer balls kicked over the fence have been returned with swastiskas painted on them.

Don't presume to talk out of one of side of your mouth saying you're an anti-Zionist and then the other side saying you're a supporter of Jewish rights. No rational thinking Jew believes you.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JosephWiess JosephWiess

Obama is part facist himself, and is so naive that he doesn't know the way the world works. It must be the Muslim in him.

  • WildJew

Mr. Elder wrote: "Give Obama credit for continuing many of Bush’s policies…."

I would not give Obama credit for anything. This man is bent on the destruction of this nation. A naive leftist US president who loves his country, perhaps one might give him some credit for doing what is right. But this man is utterly evil. Like his spiritual mentor of twenty years (Jeremiah Wright), he hates, he loathes this country. There is nothing redeeming about him. Nothing. He is pure evil. Everything he does for which conservatives credit him is only through shrewd political calculus. Every conservative who credits this evil man only serves to aid this evil man. Bill O'Reilly (Fox News) routinely credits Obama in his Talking Points. Just as Adolf Hitler brought his country to ruin, so Barack Hussein Obama will bring this country to ruin. Should Hitler have been given credit for some of his policies? No.

    • Jim C.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright served his country honorably and anyone with half a brain understood the context of his words.

In other words, he's twice the American and twice the man most of you here are.

      • WildJew

What is honorable about him? He not only "seemed" to call me a dirty Jew. He did call me a "dirty" Jew. I am an Israelite.

To Rev. Wright Israel is a "dirty word."

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnI431s1r6s

How do you explain the context of his words? In Wright's view, Jesus is a dirty Jew since he was an Israelite. Like Barack Hussein Obama, this is an evil man parading about as a "Christian."

        • Jim C.

Maybe he mistook your wildness for dirtyness. ;-)

Didn't look at it from a Jewish perspective, so I stand corrected on that.

Don't put Obama in the same boat. Well, do what you like, but it won't be true.

          • WildJew

Maybe he mistook John the Baptist's wildness for dirtiness. Maybe he mistook Jesus' wildness for dirtiness. Fine. If Wright believes Jesus is a dirty Jew, and Jesus people are dirty, filthy Jews and Israel is a dirty, filthy people, OK, but don't go championing yourself a Christian, much less a Christian minister. Jesus will tell Wright, "I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness." Do you think otherwise?

        • Ron Grant

"How do you explain the context of his words?"

I got news for you,"Israel" is a dirty word to many people,(including me and millions of Palestinians) and not all of them or us are Neo- Nazi skin heads.Maybe you equate Antisemitic with Anti-Zionism or anti Israel. One does not necessarily mean the other. We can argue that.Furthermore, there is a real link between 911 and Israel i.e.American support for Israel.Muchiboy.

          • WildJew

Yes I do equate anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. If you hate Israel, you hate the Jews.

I am guessing you are the kind of man (Mr. Grant) who, if you had a loyal friend, and a bunch of cowards and bullies told you, unless you abandon your friend, you will also be lumped in with your hated friend, you would then do the ignoble (the dishonorable) thing. You would abandon your former (now despised) friend because you fear the bullies and cowards more than you value your friend(ship).

Best to not be courageous, honorable or moral Mr. Grant. It's much easier to be an ignoble coward in your own right, isn't it?

          • Ron Grant

"If you hate Israel, you hate the Jews. "

If you say so,WildJew.But your logic is faulty.Next time I run into Spock I'll get a second opinion. Will you accept his verdict?Anyway, your logic benefits your pro Zionist cause.Very convenient but false.A clever red herring, but it makes for interesting debate.Too bad we don't live in the same town,we could discuss it over a good wine.Muchiboy

Yea, and we didn't hang the Vietnamese or the Iranians out to dry either, did we? The negative perception of fear is a good one for enemies to have, and they would view US resolve in a negative way as well. It depends on whether we are meant well or ill by the person asked.

You wrote: "As for "hanging Israel out to dry," the article fails to mention HOW."

First, let's make something clear. Obama is a vicious Jew-hater, notwithstanding his groveling court (or house) Jews like Emanuel, Axelrod, etc. Obama ran with anti-Semites and jihadists his entire adult life. Anti-Semites like Obama love self-loathing Jewish traitors like Emanuel who will sell out his own people.

        Thursday, May 27, 2010

Religious Jews protest Rahm Emanuel, calling him 'Anti-Semite
What do you expect? He's a member of a regime which pressures Israel to halt construction for Jews only in Jerusalem, prevent other municipal functions including regulating illegal construction by Arabs, and land grabs – and then he comes with his family for a Bar-Mitzva. It's a good thing he didn't bring Goldstone with him to the celebration…

        • cochavi1

I am actually not clear on what Rahm Emanuel believes. I see him as a political operative without a soul. Or, as a Clintonite in Obama's wild White House. I know that many Jews see him as a total sellout. My 'take' is that Rahm is really not very important. On Israel, I imagine he 'counterweights' the Brzezinskis, Powers and Malloys somewhat. I think it's Axelrod who is probably much worse on Israel.

And, if you will remember, when Saddam came up out of his spider-hole, Qadaffi decided that it was time to play nice. The perception was that … if he didn't … they might be pulling HIM out of a spider-hole.

The perception, now, is one of weakness in the United States. When confronted by strength, the enemy will retreat (like Qadaffi). When confronted by a weak and vacillating foreign policy, the enemies of this country will be emboldened.

        They're emboldened …

    • Northwind

We all are occupiers. The worlds largest country, Russia, started as a little enclave and then conquered a continent. The Australians conquered the aborigines. The Americans and Canadians took Indian land. The Moslems erupted out of the Arabian peninsula and conquered huge territories, killing many non-believers. Even the blacks of South Africa displaced the Pygmies and others who were there first. One thing you can say for Israel is that the Jews do have a historic claim to the land, they were there before Islam existed.__Helen Thomas should go back to whereever her ancestors came from.

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/Rifleman Rifleman

Yep, my Cherokee ancestors conquered most of Appalachia, and wiped out at least two other tribes doing it, before the euros got there. My Scot and Irish ancestors (among, if not the last tribal warrior cultures of Europe) understood them as well as any, and better than most.

Even so, most of the land that makes up Israel and the PA was bought legally (mostly from titled absentee landowners, which is the biggest source of claims the land was stolen) under the Ottomans and later the Brits, by Jews. Both central authorities gained revenue from resident landowners where before the land was almost worthless to them, and the Ottoman's in particular, laughed all the way to the bank at the crazy Jews buying so much worthless land. Under the Brits, Jews were stopped from buying land East of the Jordan River. Much of the land was also unregistered or miss-titled as state land, which was more the fault of the Ottomans and squatting residents ,some of whom had been squatting or failing to register their land for generations.

I think the Jews are the first (though the Oneida Nation sets another fine example) to actually buy their homeland back.

"What do you base your claims on?"

Logic, firstly, but I'm not Anti-Semitic ,Steve.Yet I believe Zionism's re-creation of Israel at the expense of the Palestinians was as wrong as wrong can be.Jews Arabs and Christians lived side by side in Palestine for hundreds of years until hundreds of thousands of Jews, many fleeing the Holocaust, settled and effectively displaced similar numbers of Arabs. It's plainly wrong that foreign borne Jews can have a right of return while Arabs borne there are denied that right.I think Spock would say it wasn't logical.Me,I'd like to see Arab,Christian, and Jew live side by side there.I had a lot of Jewish role models growing up,some Holocaust survivors and also a Christian grandfather borne in Bethlehem in the late 1800's who emigrated to Canada and worked the coal mines of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. All good hard working immigrants, people who contributed to my country. And Jews, good people all, fleeing the Nazi monsters occupied Palestine ,arguably and effectively colonizing the Palestinians, themselves a good people. And it goes on,occupation and oppression.Yep,I'm Anti-Zionist in the same vein that good people were against the cruel policies of Apartheid yet were not hateful of the European race per se. This idea that Moslems coexisted peacefully with other peoples in Palestine is not really true. In Islam, Jews and Christians have 'dhimmi' status – an inferior status in various legal and other ways. Most of the Jews in Israel are not descended from holocaust survivors, but rather descended from Jews who were kicked out of Arab countries. The Palestinians could have welcomed the Jews who did immigrate to the country, but the record is quite mixed, including the Arab massacre of Jews of 1929, and the warfare some Palestinians engaged in in 1948. You still can see the wrecks of Jewish trucks that were shot up by Palestinians when the Jews tried to keep the road open to Jerusalem.
If the Palestinians had welcomed the Jews, and treated them well, there would be no Palestinian refugees.

      • Northwind

I checked again, and its not true that most Jews in Israel are from Arab countries, though a lot are. However, there are several histories of the Jews in Palestine between the Roman occupation and now, and RonGrant, by reading them, you would find out that your simplistic (but all too common) picture of what happened is at least somewhat wrong. Also, the holocaust survivors came to a Jewish community that was waiting for them – I remember reading about a ship full of Jewish refugees went aground on purpose in a Tel Aviv beach, and the Jews on the beach cheering as they came in and evaded the British.

        • Ron Grant

          "least somewhat wrong."

I'm sure I'm "somewhat wrong" about a lot of things,Northwind.Trouble is,usually one is ignorant of the incomplete truth and one's ignorance.Sometimes it just takes someone to point it out.Reading, exposing yourself to different opinions and debate, critical thought, etc.can minimize the harm.Muchiboy

Of course,Israel became a kind of sanctuary for the Diaspora and that was especially so for those fleeing the Holocaust. One has to wonder how many Jews might not have perished from this or that pogrom, etc. over the centuries if they had a homeland like Israel. It obviously came too late for most Jews.Even today, most Jews don't live in Israel but their own birth countries.Safe havens abound in the Western liberal Democracies for Jews and non Jews from all over. The idea of a Jewish homeland was flawed if not obsolete by the time it was realized. And re-created,and arguably a neo-colonial anachronism, just when the age of colonialism was collapsing. You would have thought mankind learned something from the evils of WWII.At such a critical time in history the world and the UN should have foreseen the events set in motion by re-creating a Jewish state given the history and context. And the Zionists, they have to accept much of the blame for the inevitable events post 1948.And today,Jews supporting Israel bear responsibility for much of the unrest in the area rather than acting as a force for stability.America and the West 's general support of Israel is partially responsible for the alienation of many Arab and Muslim countries, harming our relations. And that's just the beginning.Muchiboy

    • MixMike

"Yet I believe Zionism's re-creation of Israel at the expense of the Palestinians was as wrong as wrong can be."

Incorrect, Israel was not created at the expense of Palestinians. Jews have had a continual presence in the land of Israel (or then called "Palestine") even after the Romans sacked the second temple in 70 CE. In the 19th century more Jews began settling the area on LEGALLY purchased land. The land was largely barren and vacant at the time. Even Mark Twain wrote accounts of how devoid of life the land was! Jews went out of their way to avoid purchasing land in areas where Arabs would be displaced and bought land that was uncultivated and cheap (a lot swamps) and without tenants! The original partition plan would have given the Jews a country only in areas that the Jews had settled. Of course, the Arabs couldn't accept this and rejected it, choosing war over compromise and xenophobia over acceptance.

"Jews Arabs and Christians lived side by side in Palestine for hundreds of years until hundreds of thousands of Jews, many fleeing the Holocaust, settled and effectively displaced similar numbers of Arabs."

Are you insane? Jews and Christians lived as dhimmi's under Muslim rule and were subject to embarassing jizya taxes, restricted freedom of religion and were victims of constant aggression and discrimination.

    Mr. Grant,
First of all most of the Jews in Israel are of Middle Eastern origin.Jews have been in the Middle East for 5000 years, long before the Arabs conquered it and forced their religion, language and culture on the indigenous peoples. Why are the Arabs allowed stealing other peoples land and lands where they did not have a prior history. There have always been Jews in the Israel and the rest of the Middle East but it is bullshit that they lived "peacefully" or as equals with Muslims. In Muslim land only Muslims are treated well. That is the way it is now and historically as well. Alot of people like don't realize that what these Jew haters do to the Jews today they always to to non-Jews tomorrow. Muslims want to impose their religion on the entire world, not just Israel.

    • Ron Grant

"First of all most of the Jews in Israel are of Middle Eastern origin."

Agreed,as all of mankind are of African and further back oceanic origin. So what?

"Muslims want to impose their religion on the entire world, not just Israel. "

Like Israel and the Zionists imposed themselves on the Palestinians? Like the Europeans imposed themselves on Africa,Asia and America?

"Jews have been in the Middle East for 5000 years,…"

Jews have been a minority in the Middle East and Palestine for over a thousand years.

"always been Jews in the Israel and the rest of the Middle East but it is bullshit that they lived "peacefully or as equals with Muslims"

Arabs and non Israelite's have been in Palestine for over a thousand years, and over a time span of less then 65 years, look how peacefully and equally the Jews have treated these people, occupying their land, denying them their birthright and homeland while allowing any Jew from anywhere,Ethiopia included,to settle there.WTF?"

"Jew haters do to the Jews today"

And the Jews,in denying the Palestinians their birthright and their homeland while continuing a policy of ethnic cleansing, that demonstrates your love for them?

And you have no idea why good, decent people from so many nations believe you guilty of Human Rights abuses against the Palestinians and are willing to put their lives on the line to protest it? Either arrogance or ignorance. You Jews are all too human for my liking. With the exception of Mr.Spock,of course. Muchiboy

      • MixMike

"Like Israel and the Zionists imposed themselves on the Palestinians?"

Wrong again Ron, Israel did not "impose" themselves on the Palestinians. Jews settled Israel on LEGALLY purchased barren and vacant land. Jews purchased land without any tenants and where they would not have to displace Arabs. Jews agreed to a partition plan that gave them a country in only Jewish areas that the Arabs promptly rejected.

"Arabs and non Israelite's have been in Palestine for over a thousand years, and over a time span of less then 65 years, look how peacefully and equally the Jews have treated these people, occupying their land, denying them their birthright and homeland while allowing any Jew from anywhere,Ethiopia included,to settle there.WTF?"

And Jews have had a presence in Israel for thousands of years as well. But seriously, lets look at how the Jews treat the Arabs of Israel… They have full equal rights under Israeli law. Arabs in Israel enjoy more civil rights than in any Arab or Islamic country in the world. There have been special government affirmative action programs for Israeli Arabs. Additionally, even Arabs in Gaza and the W. Bank have full access to Israel's judicial system. Gay Arabs and Muslims FLEE other countries to live peacefully in Israel. I would like to see what a pride parade would look like in the Ramallah!

Lets also not forget the tons of aid Israel distributes to the W. Bank and Gaza – approximately a ton for every resident.

Boy, those mean ol' Jews sure sound nasty!

"And the Jews,in denying the Palestinians their birthright and their homeland while continuing a policy of ethnic cleansing, that demonstrates your love for them?"

If Israel has a policy of ethnic cleansing then how come the Palestinians population in Gaza and the W. Bank has grown at such an exponential rate since Israel has been in control of them? Israel constantly acts with restraint taking great measures to protect Palestinian civilians. I guess Israel must be really bad at this whole ethnic cleansing thing, huh? Perhaps they should take some lessons from Fatah, Hezbollah, Hamas or other Islamo-Nazi organizations?

"You Jews are all too human for my liking."

Of the suffering of these people. Most white South Africans never knew the suffering in the townships.Likely most Nazis never knew,or never could acknowledge nor appreciate, the suffering of Jews and others in the ghetto nor the death camps.Maybe they could only see worms crawling on the ground.Maybe the Jews can't SEE the suffering and INSTITUTIONALIZE it .Maybe that's how man can commit such horrible crimes against humanity and retain their sanity.Maybe we should just pity you and your kind, maybe we should just pity mankind.Maybe that's why the wise or the very rightous make such efforts not to hate.Muchiboy

          • MixMike

Please, I am well aware of the situation in the W. Bank and Gaza. The problem is that any humanitarian situation was CREATED by the Palestinians (the leadership like Fatah and Terrorist organizations like Islamic Jihad and Hamas) themselves! As mentioned again and again, Israelis constantly try to ease the suffering with millions of tons of aid, economic opportunities etc., but of course the Palestinians squander it and choose more terror and war.

Israelis want peace and have been begging the Arabs for peace since Israel's creation. The impetus has long been on the Arabs to chose peace over hate and xenophobia.

        • Ron Grant

"If Israel has a policy of ethnic cleansing then how come the Palestinians population in Gaza and the W. Bank has grown at such an exponential rate since Israel has been in control of them?"

I'm unsure how much the Palestinian population has been reduced by the IDF or their proxy Phalangist militiamen over the past 60 years or so,but the cleansing of Palestinians from their homeland i.e.ethnic cleansing, is one of the core issues here and a bona fide Crime against Humanity.

"Israel constantly acts with restraint taking great measures to protect Palestinian civilians."

Restraint? You've got me,MixMike.First time on FP I've been totally speechless.I've just swallowed a fly!

"I guess Israel must be really bad at this whole ethnic cleansing thing, huh?"

Given that Jews were a minority prior to 1948,and after some 60 years are a sizable majority,I'd say they were pretty good at it.Don't know that's it's to your credit, though.

Of course you are unsure…. Jordan killed more Palestinians (10,000-20,000) in one month September 1970, known as Black September than Israel has since the intifada of 2000. Of course, you should be more outraged at Israel than any Jordan!

As for the Phalangist, Israel took no active part in the events in Sabra and Shatilla. As soon as the Israelis heard of the slaughter they immediately stopped the Phalangists and ordered them out of the camps. Interestingly enough, Syria and the PLO directly murdered an estimated 2,000-3,000 (very conservative figure mind you) civilians during Lebanon's civil war and no one seems to mind.

"Given that Jews were a minority prior to 1948,and after some 60 years are a sizable majority,I'd say they were pretty good at it.Don't know that's it's to your credit, though."

Prior to the Mandate in 1922, the Arab population was declining, but Arabs started to move in from surrounding countries. The Arab population grew as the Jews improved health conditions and the quality of life in the area.

In 1947 the Arabs did have a majority in WESTERN "Palestine" approximately 1.2 million Arabs. But Jews were a MAJORITY, approximately 600,000 in the area allotted to them in the partition plan. Again, the Jewish areas consisted of VACANT and TENANT-FREE land LEGALLY purchased by Jews to build a homeland. No ethnic cleansing took place.

That said, around 1948 a great deal of ETHNIC CLEANSIND did go into effect in the Arab and Islamic countries, expelling 800,000+ Jews.

Don't forget, the Arab populations in Israel, Gaza and the W. Bank have grown EXPONENTIALLY! The population in Gaza increased over 80% from 1994 – 2004 alone!

Jews are NOT in the business of ethnic cleansing, that is better left to the Arab and Islamic countries.

"With the likes of the Irgun and Stern Gang, they set a pretty high standard for the Palestinians to follow e.g.King David Hotel,Deir Yasin.I think they may even have invented the Letter Bomb.Clever, those Jews."

The Irgun and Stern gang were nothing compared to the Arab terrorists operating at the same time. Don't forget, the Arabs started a campaign of terror long before the King David hotel and equally attacked British interests in the region. In 1921, Haj Amin el-Husseini organized fedayeen to terrorize Jews. Don't forget the Hebron Massacre of 1929, when 67 Jews were murdered by Arab rioters.

Its interesting that you mention Deir Yassin, because subsequent investigations have shown that the myth of massacres and rapes at Deir Yassin were fabricated (just ask Hazem Nusseibeh). Of course, any "memorial" for the victims fail to mention the subsequent murder of over 70 Jewish civilians as a response to the supposed "massacre."

I'm sure that, if Iran, and/or Hezbollah and Hamas, and/or Syria succeed in attacking and devastating Israel, Obama will issue a statement "deploring" their action and pledging "eternal support" for Israel.
And, I'm sure that the American Jews who voted for an anti-Israel president who helped to degrade the Israeli defensive posture will thank Obama profusely for his speech and will rationalize his actions. Israel's biggest problem is not Iran, it is the American Jews who seek to demonstrate their even-handedness as global citizens by failing to support Israel's struggle for survival in a hostile world. American Jews need to wake up and understand that "evenhandedness as global citizens" will not change their status as infidels, and that they will be next on the list after Israel. Ask any Imam.
