The WikiLeaks Vindication of George W. Bush

Pages: 1 2

Let’s recap.

Bush, in building the case for war against Iraq, lied to the nation.

He falsely claimed that Iraq was attempting to purchase yellowcake from Africa. Time magazine specifically referred to the yellowcake “lie” in accusing Bush of fabricating the case for war. Therefore, were Iraq to have had yellowcake — an assertion called a “lie” — it would have confirmed the presence of WMD, giving credence to Bush’s declaration of Iraq as a “grave and gathering threat.”

But … there … was … yellowcake. This brings us back to WikiLeaks.

Wired magazine’s contributing editor Noah Shachtman — a nonresident fellow at the liberal Brookings Institution — researched the 400,000 WikiLeaked documents released in October. Here’s what he found: “By late 2003, even the Bush White House’s staunchest defenders were starting to give up on the idea that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. But WikiLeaks’ newly-released Iraq war documents reveal that for years afterward, U.S. troops continued to find chemical weapons labs, encounter insurgent specialists in toxins and uncover weapons of mass destruction (emphasis added). … Chemical weapons, especially, did not vanish from the Iraqi battlefield. Remnants of Saddam’s toxic arsenal, largely destroyed after the Gulf War, remained. Jihadists, insurgents and foreign (possibly Iranian) agitators turned to these stockpiles during the Iraq conflict — and may have brewed up their own deadly agents.”

In 2008, our military shipped out of Iraq — on 37 flights in 3,500 barrels — what even The Associated Press called “the last major remnant of Saddam Hussein’s nuclear program”: 550 metric tons of the supposedly nonexistent yellowcake. The New York Sun editorialized: “The uranium issue is not a trivial one, because Iraq, sitting on vast oil reserves, has no peaceful need for nuclear power. … To leave this nuclear material sitting around the Middle East in the hands of Saddam … would have been too big a risk.”

Now the mainscream media no longer deem yellowcake — the WMD Bush supposedly lied about — a WMD. It was, well, old. It was degraded. It was not what we think of when we think of WMD. Really? Square that with what former Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean said in April 2004: “There were no weapons of mass destruction.” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow goes even further, insisting, against the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that “Saddam Hussein was not pursuing weapons of mass destruction”!

Bush, hammered by the insidious “Bush Lied, People Died” mantra, endured one of the most vicious smears against any president in history. He is owed an apology.

When Hollywood makes “The Vindication of George W. Bush,” maybe Sean Penn can play the lead.

I never believed the Bush lied and people died mantra of the left. However, irrespective of the Bush lied and people died mantra, when it came to responding to 9/11 and the handling of Afghanistan and Iraq, Bush was about as incompetent as it gets.

I mean like a Dhimmicrat on steroids he doubled the size of the federal government to protect the homeland from the scourge of Islamic terrorist attacks, and the predictable result is that today we are just as vulnerable to attacks as we were before 9/11, as growing government is never the solution for anything much less jihad. If Bush had instead attacked multiculturalism, outlawed Islam, and banned and reversed Muhammadan immigration, today the USA would be far safer and we also wouldn’t be going bankrupt.

Likewise, if Bush had targeted OBL and AQ only in Afghanistan in retaliation for 9/11 instead of becoming sidetracked in a fantasy based nation-building mission that has manifested into a carbon copy duplicate of the Soviet Union’s strategic blunder, OBL and AQ would have been eradicated and we would have created deterrence at the same time.

If Bush has exited Iraq after ousting Saddam as soon as the country was scoured for WMD and Saddam was captured, he never would have lost the support of the American people, the Iraq fiasco would never have occurred, the landslide victory of Dhimmicrats over Republicans in 2006 never would have happened, and Obama wouldn’t be President today.

Indeed, anyway you slice it and dice it; GWB is the Jimmy Carter of the Republican Party. He exemplifies everything that is wrong today with the Republican Party.

    • Doug

Doofus, get some perspective. If we had people sniping at everything FDR did before the way was over, all the bloody mistakes, all the friendly fire, all the bombing of our own guys, we would never have won. Just shut up.

      • wasicu36

You're in need of perspective: FDR at least didn't saddle our guys with the ridiculous rules of engagement they suffer under in the sandbox today (beginning under Bush and getting worse under stinky soetoro), and he didn't try "nation building" until the WAR WAS WON! Bush wasn't as bad as stinky but he's no Von Klauswitz either

      • ObamaYoMoma

Get perspective? Oh excuse me; apparently you agree with GWB that Islam is a Religion of Peace™ that is being hijacked by a tiny minority of extremists. Apparently, you also agree with GWB that growing and doubling the size of the federal government like a Dhimmicrat on steroids will make us safer from Islamic terrorist attacks, because apparently you and GWB together believe that growing the government is the solution to all the world’s ills. You apparently also agree with GWB that pursuing endless fantasy based nation-building missions based on false premises and political correct myths to win the hearts and minds of Muhammadans is actually beneficial instead of incredibly counterproductive. I hate to rain on your parade, but GWB was a stealth liberal, just like his dad, only you haven’t figured that out yet, probably because you are one too.

    • debarrio

Unfortunatly, I have to agree with most of what you say. I still admire GWB, but ultimately, I think he responded to 9/11 exactly how OBL wanted him too. And now look at where we are.

    • FrankWye

When Iran starts playing with their nukes are you then going to say we should have done something?

      • ObamaYoMoma

What you mean? If GWB hadn't been so blinded by political correct multiculturalism, the ruling Mullahs's of Iran and their nuclear installations would already be history. Indeed, he had 8 years to take care of the problem, but instead he talked big and did nothing.

  • DogWithoutSlippers

    WHAT A JOKE:
"Indeed, anyway you slice it and dice it; GWB is the Jimmy Carter of the Republican Party. He exemplifies everything that is wrong today with the Republican Party."
    What are you smoking Larry?

    • ObamaYoMoma

Apparently, it isn't hard drugs like you.

    • AnimalFarm

Sorry dude, but republicans don't have anything that compares to Jimmy Carter. He's in a class of his own, or was, until Barry Soetoro Barack Hussein Imam Obama came along.

      • ObamaYoMoma

Actually, when GWB left office, the Republican Party was a pathetic train wreck thanks to GWB. Why, because GWB was incredibly incompetent and had destroyed the credibility of the Republican Party. Not only that but he wasn’t a conservative; like his dad before him, he was a liberal. While he did cut taxes, which I do give him credit for, everything else he did was leftwing, from declaring Islam a Religion of Peace™ that is being hijacked by a tiny minority of extremists, to occupying two Islamic country to pursue two silly fantasy based nation building missions to win hearts and minds, to doubling the size of the federal government to continue accommodating Muhammadan immigration and to protect the homeland, which miserably failed as was predictable because more and greater government is never the solution to anything, to championing amnesty for 20 million illegal immigrants, GWB was a liberal to the core, and I could go on and on. I haven’t even scratched the surface.

In any event, both fantasy-based occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq will eventually become known as the greatest strategic blunders in American history once Americans finally learn the truth about Islam. Apparently, you believe that creating and propping up two Sharia states that will inevitably rejoin the global jihad just as soon as we leave the scene wasn’t incredibly counterproductive. Not to mention, declaring war on a tactic was pretty indicative that GWB didn’t have the first clue what the hell he was doing. Nevertheless, it is very obvious that you are just as liberal and just as ignorant as GWB.

Now I’m not saying that Obama isn’t a bigger disaster, but Obama is doing what all leftwing loons do, whereas GWB ran as a conservative but governed as a Leftist.

  • Satori_In_TO

GWB was undone by the unholy alliance between the US government and the House of Saud. Ibama will be tripped up by the same disgusting alliance.

The House of Saud deserves to be NUKED

  • Gary from Jersey

Saddam was a direct threat , proven when Libya gave up the A-bomb project after Iraq was liberated. Saddam built the rocket and Libya was working on the bomb. It was to have been fired at the US from western Africa, probably Mauritania. That was world news, remember? Evidence was discovered that the French, Russians and Germans were into it up to their eyeballs. Study the Oil For Food scandal.
Joe Wilson lied to Congress. His Democrat activist wife set it up. The French leaked a letter saying Saddam had yellowcake so they could later say the letter was fake to stop the liberation, which would have ended the oil deals Saddam had with France, Germany and Russia. Some 400,000 Iraqis died under Oil For Food yet Bush is savaged for preventing even worse.
I saw and smelled Sept. 11, and it was to be only the beginning. Iraq was deeply involved. Guess where AQ got the passports? God bless Bush for staying the course. All you Bush haters can man up and admit you were lethally wrong or go to hell.

    • Wesley69

Interesting facts, Gary from Jersey, that time has covered up to suit a particular political narrative. Some of these revelations should have been huge stories in the media, but once again, others had different agendas, and they were not to make George Bush look good.

I still believe that the chemicals discovered in the US Anthrax letter scare were tied to 9/11 terrorist Mohamed Atta and possibly Iraq. Atta was getting flying lessons in Southern Florida near the Boca Raton office of the National Enquirer which was writing a series of stories attacking and belittling Osama-bin-Laden. Atta had to have seen these because they were found in every supermarket.

    • Stephen Carter

I so despise the soulless worms who endlessly criticize GWB. They just rearrange the facts to accomodate their pathetic ideology of blame & obfuscation.

    • Andrew

Well I was in Iraq in 2003 to invade and liberate it from a tyrant. The fact that they had schools with murals of Muslims strangling American Soldiers with the US Flag around their neck made me sick, who puts that in a child's grade school? Savages do. I saw the rape houses that Uday and Qusay operated, spoke to the families that lost everything because of that man and his sons. He was pure EVIL. The cause was just, I will never lose the pride I have from serving in the US Marine Corps and liberating a people in Iraq.

  • cubnkira

Larry Elder is a bright talk show host that is sydicated across much of the country. He may be called an Uncle Tom by blacks, but he is a hero to me. Listen to his show.

  • Wesley69

Clinton was urged to take down the Iraqi government by Congress because they and many of the world governments had intelligence saying Iraq had WMDs. Everyone seems to forget this fact, but then again, the Democrats, who never accepted Bush as President, were determined to weaken his presidency at every turn, even at the expense of our security and the safety of our troops.

That this comes out of WikiLeaks is a good thing, but I doubt the mass stream media will report it because it does vindicate Bush.

Bush called on Saddam again and again to come clean about his secret programs, up to the day of the invasion. Saddam played the same game, Ahmadinejad of Iran is now playing. But Bush had something, Obama is yet to show – resolve. There were reports about truck conveys going into Syria, not long before the attack. Saddam had plenty of time to hide evidence of his programs. Naturally, when WMDs were not found immediately, the "Bush lied, People Died" crew started up.

After Saddam had fallen, the Jordanians broke up a plot to use chemical weapons in Amman. Where did these terrorists get these chemical weapons from?

Bush was correct when he called Iraq, Iran and North Korea the axis of evil. He was able to take down one of the evils. Congress prevented him from attacking Iran and removing their growing nuclear threat. Just look at what President Obama's talking has achieved. As for North Korea, Bush, Obama and Presidents before them have sought to appease that country, hoped China would rein it in. So far, no hot war, yet.

9/11 seems to have been forgotten by the Leftists for political reasons. The threat of terrorists with WMDs is still a real possibility. Bush took out one possible threat. Hopefully, Obama will consider the security of the American people as his chief concern like Bush did.

Love this world, and yes old Saddam had to have WMD After all he put over one billion of our money into making the WMD.

  • http://qwest.com Steve Chavez

"Imminent Danger" means eventually there would have "Saddam's Revenge and Humilation." Saddam was humiliated when the world saw his great army surrendering live on CNN during the Gulf War. He wanted revenge and attempted to assassinate Bush Sr.. Then he was kept in a box for years but how many more years would we have had to keep him in that box? Did he still have contact with the outside world while in that box? When 9-11 happened, he cheered and if he didn't already have a direct connection to the bombers, he sought them out since they beat him to the punch but he wanted to aid them further including with WMD or funds to buy WMD even for billions of dollars. Eventually, Saddam would have had his revenge! That's Bush's "imminent danger!"

    • sam000

      Hi Steve;

The best tool to topple a rebel regime is USA.

The worst tool to create and keep an administration after war is USA.

and this is what happened to IRAQ

  • http://qwest.com Steve Chavez

WHERE ARE THE ACTUAL PAGES OF THE WIKILEAKS DOCUMENT PERTAINING TO THIS WMD STORY? PRINT THOSE PLEASE AND I'LL FRAME THEM!!!

  • Philosopherking

It still doesn't erase the claim that he exagerated the threat of Iraq not does it prove Iraq was a credible threat to us directly. I'm not ripping into GWB but this article makes it sound like there were WMDs found. Instead, it says what we all already knew and that was Saddam wanted to make WMDs one day. That particular fact I find very true but I don't think we were in any eminent danger from it.

    • http://qwest.com Steve Chavez

Do you think there is eminent/imminent danger/threat from Iran? Will they "make WMD's one day? Stop them now or wait till they have them and use them since they think it is their destiny?

      • Philosopherking

You have a good point but when should we begin the invasion of Iran? When they build the bomb? When they plan it out? When a general formulates a plan for it or perhaps when someone thinks it? What should trigger an invasion of another country?

  • Patrick Henry

Everyone sees the world through their own lense and filters out information that doesn't fit their accepted narrative, which renders debate nearly impossible. The Left believes conservatism to be immoral and a threat to their power. Liberty, individualism and capitalism are their enemy, not radical Islam, who share some of the same philosophical premises: collectivism, anti-capitalism, neo-colonial victimization, etc.

Libertarians are upset with Bush in particular because he grew government and set the cause of restoring liberty backwards to achieve what they believe to be an impossible goal: Pax Americana in the Middle East. Most people in the middle are upset that he didn't win a quick victory, find Usama and ride off into the sunset, like a Hollywood movie.

  • Patrick Henry

The fact remains that when evil regimes control industrial centers (Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan) or energy-producing centers (Baathist Iraq, Revolutionary Iran), they have the capability to inflict great damage on America directly, and indirectly through destroying our allies. One cannot go about policing the world and expect to be financially solvent for very long, or isolate oneself and expect to be left alone for very long. Most of these comments filter out the trade-offs involved, the risks of doing nothing, or doing too much. I suggest, being objective about it, be principled (e.g., don't initiate force unless a clear violation of law has been broken, then use enough force to remove the regime) with the understanding that the risks of not upholding international law invite further violations, as we saw in the first half of the 20th century. If we wish to live in splendid isolation, don't be surprised if we are one day surrounded by well-armed dictators who will treat us like a pack of wolves sees a herd of sheep.

  • Patrick Henry

A soldier explained to me once that he is the sheep dog, protecting the flock, and he will do whatever it takes to keep the sheep from being eaten. I explained to him that too many people see the animals with large teeth are assume they're all bad. I said it is up to teachers, parents and politicians to explain the difference between the dogs and the wolves, and more importantly, that there really are wolves out there, even if some among us fail to take notice.

It took years before the details were released to the press about the 550 tons or uranium yellowcake in Iraq – never disclosed until all the material was removed and secured.

So, it's on suprise that we haven't heard the details of any remaining chemical WMDs in Iraq, probably because the military is still working on identifying and securing the material.
