Help! Congress is Holding Us Hostage!

“It is hard to believe,” weeps Saturday’s New York Times, “as the holidays approach yet again amid economic hard times, but Congress looks as if it may let federal unemployment benefits lapse for the fourth time this year.”

Now, nobody likes being held hostage.  But precisely who is holding whom?

The Leftist media would have us believe that extending Bush tax cuts “for the rich” would open the floodgates to deluge the landscape, drown puppies and crush the unemployed.  The Times laments that “nearly 42 percent of the 14.8 million jobless workers have been sidelined for six months or more.”

I have been involuntarily unemployed for nearly two years.  But I don’t want more hugs from Uncle Sam.  I want a job.

It is not the wealthy who are holding the jobless in this country hostage.  The knife at our throat is being held there by lawmakers willing to give us nothing but measly unemployment “benefits” in lieu of real employment.  If there are five people scrambling for every available job, nobody has yet explained to me why “the rich” are to blame for it.  Nobody in a soup kitchen line ever hired anybody I know.

The Left is up to the oldest trick in their dog-eared book.  They aggravate a crisis (remember, they never let a good one “go to waste”), blame the rich, then ride to the rescue with a solution that solves nothing.  As the situation grows increasingly dire, they will blame the rich again and use the villainy of the wealthy as an excuse to pilfer from them some more.

There’s no future for those dependent on handouts from politicians.  Making rich people richer, however sordid it may sound, pays far better and offers unquestionably greater security.  Unlike the politicians, the rich make us richer, too.  Far from being Santa’s little helpers, the Leftists in Congress are drug pushers.  They give us just enough to get us hooked on the cheap high of being taken care of.

But this cheap high is deadly.  We wake up to find the knife at our throat and ourselves the hostages of the pushers.  The drug deal has gone sour, and they react the way thugs always do when backed against the wall.  They can only hope they’ve gotten us into such a stupor that we will believe their lies and see those who would rescue us as those who would keep us captive.  It is the strategy of criminals everywhere.

Our only hope is that it won’t work on us.
