“Smashing Success” Won’t Destroy Tea Party Mania

The “experts” never saw us coming. That’s what David Von Drehle of Time magazine writes about the Tea Party phenomenon.
The “experts,” aka ,”the Left,” branded the Tea Party as a group of racists, teabaggers, right-wing extremists and homegrown terrorists. Now Time has named the grass-roots movement as runner -up to their Person of the Year. Go figure.
Seems like yesterday that Obama and his minions felt so threatened by the groundswell of liberty-loving Americans that they launched an all-out offensive against ordinary tax-paying citizens.
I don’t think we ought to be distracted… My message to them is, they’re wrong.
Obama himself attended a town hall in St. Louis that year and stated:
Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I’m not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation.
Nancy Pelosi first called the Tea Party movement Astroturf, and in a tearful press conference shared “her concerns about some of the language being used.”
Janet Napolitano put us on a watch list right before the April 15, 2009 Tax Day rallies:
Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.
Von Drehle manages to sling a few arrows of his own. I guess the thousands of groups meeting in towns and cities across America, not to mention the November 2 referendum on the president’s socialist agenda, still have not convinced the lefties that the tea party defies definition:
