Soros Billionaire Leftist Club Expands

Even in these economically challenging times, super-wealthy leftist donors continue to build political infrastructure that they hope will survive and prosper in the future.
Research shows that art collector and retired plastics executive Stefan T. Edlis (pictured at right in above photo with his wife Gael Neeson) is a member of the ultra-secretive Democracy Alliance, a George Soros-led left-wing billionaires’ club that wants to turn America into socialist Europe.
Edlis’s foundation, Edlis-Neeson Foundation NFP, funneled $200,000 to the Democracy Alliance via the Tides Foundation in 2008, according to the foundation’s 2008 tax return. (See page 16 of the return available here.)
The Democracy Alliance was founded after John Kerry lost the presidential election in 2004 by Soros and others such as Peter B. Lewis to fund a permanent political infrastructure of nonprofit think tanks, media outlets, leadership schools, and activist groups to compete with the conservative movement.
By creating the Democracy Alliance, Soros and his colleagues put their imprimatur on the Democratic Party and the progressive movement by steering hundreds of millions of dollars to liberal nonprofits they favored. The Democracy Alliance helped Democrats give Republicans a shellacking in the 2008 election. Now it’s organizing state-level chapters in at least 19 states, and once-conservative Colorado, which hosts the Democracy Alliance’s most successful state affiliate, has turned Democrat blue.
Edlis, a Viennese-born Holocaust survivor, owns an unlikely piece of “art” called “Him.” Economist.com describes the work by Maurizio Cattelan, which Edlis bought for $10 million, as “a spookily realistic depiction of Hitler kneeling in prayer.” (pictured below)
Apparently Edlis belongs to the Maury Povich school of art appreciation. “When people see this piece they react with gasps, tears, disbelief. The impact is stunning. Politics aside, that is how you judge art,” Edlis said.
