Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Do Leftists Have to Ruin Everything?

Today is the day that Americans commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King was a real American hero. Without his passion and commitment to racial equality and justice, it would have undoubtedly taken African Americans many years more to be treated equally. In the end, he paid the ultimate price for holding the very American belief that “all men are created equal.”
The whole blogosphere is paying tribute to this great man today. Most remarkable about these posts is that conservative commentators tend to praise the man and his accomplishments and leave it at that, while most leftist bloggers try to use Dr. King to advance their own, radical agenda; an agenda, Dr. King did not share.
Governor Sarah Palin praises King’s legacy at her FaceBook page. “King,” she writes, “summarized his mission when stating that no one should be judged based on skin color, but by the content of one’s character.”
The Foundry, which is the blog of the conservative think tank Heritage: “Martin Luther King Jr. held these truths. Do you?”
Scott Johnson wrote one of the best posts of the day for Power Line.
The Blog Prof reminds us that, although Democrats want to convince us otherwise these days, Dr. King was not one of them. It’s true, but no matter which side tries to use him as a partisan tool, I dislike it.
Which brings me to this post at Politico. It appears that Democratic candidate for the US Senate in Massachusetts Martha Coakley is trying to convince voters she’s the Second Coming of Dr. King. Nice try Martha.
The progressive Holidays blog pretends that there is not “any more fitting testament to King’s legacy than the election of President Barack Obama.” Leftists just can’t help themselves, can they? Leave Martin Luther King Jr. Day alone.
Another leftist blog uses the opportunity to portray Dr. King not as a famous warrior for justice, but as America’s foremost socialist leader.
Jack and Jill weighs in as well. What makes this post noteworthy is that its author doesn’t stop at using Dr. King’s legacy to advance a socialist agenda, but the tragedy in Haiti as well.
After reading the last seven posts linked to above, I was so fed up with the state of the blogosphere and especially with its overly partisan climate, that I simply decided to watch the video of Dr. King’s most famous speech and leave it at that. If you feel I did, I advise you to do the same.
