Something interesting is happening in Massachusetts: it seems that Democrats may very well lose “their” seat in the U.S. Senate.
Democratic candidate Martha Coakley led her Republican rival Scott Brown by more than 30% last year in the race to succeed Senator Ted Kennedy. Kennedy’s seat was considered to be a safe seat for Democrats. Coakley herself was so confident that she’d win, that she took a six-day vacation back in December of last year.
The race changed quickly and dramatically after the holidays, however. Brown surged in the polls, causing Democrats to panic. Could Democrats actually lose Kennedy’s Senate seat? If so, it will undoubtedly be seen that Americans – even mostly liberal ones – reject the Obama administration’s (and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s) radical leftist agenda.
Here’s a round-up of the most recent developments in Massachusetts:
Coakley’s own polling has Brown up by 3%. Read all about it at Steve Kornacki’s blog.
Newsmax reports that pollster Scott Rasmussen calls the race in Massachusetts absolutely “stunning.”
Ed Schultz warns voters that a Brown win will be “the end of change as we know it.” Panicking, are we?
As if she’s not already doing badly enough in the polls, Coakley decides to lash out at famous baseball player Kurt Schilling calling him “just another Yankees fan.” This gaffe even causes Andrew Sullivan – of all people – to turn on the self-declared heir to Senator Ted Kennedy.
Scott Brown’s campaign has a new video, spotlighting the “closing argument” of opponent Martha Coakley. Watch it at National Review Online.
To make matters even worse for Coakley, the Wall Street Journal reports that a notorious sex case raises questions about her judgement. Yes Martha, when it rains, it truly pours.
Meanwhile, the White House has announced that President Obama will campaign for Coakley. If this isn’t a clear sign leading Democrats are panicking, I don’t know what is.
One of the best blogs on the Internet, Power Line, has more on Coakley’s controversial past.
Meanwhile, Brown says he may sue Democrats for using his picture on ads as a UPS driver. He’s also angry because of utterly disgusting rape flyers that were sent out by the Coakley campaign, saying that Brown wants hospitals to turn raped women away. Leftist scum in action.
SEIU “purple people beaters” campaign for Brown: “wow,” indeed.
Lastly, Reaganite Republican also published a great round-up of the state of the race in Massachusetts. Read it here.
