The maligned immigration law in Arizona could be much more important to every other state than we might realize.
Not only has President Barack Obama and many in his administration verbally attacked the legislation (in most cases, without reading it), but they are endorsing, by a lack of response, the overwhelming attack from the Left on the entire state of Arizona. I don’t see how this can be viewed as anything but an attempt to overrule the state rights of Arizona by using a bullying tactic.
As of today, the administration is throwing some Border Patrol agents at the problem, but many legislators and even La Raza spokespeople feel it is a token effort that will have no impact. This move was likely meant to soften the additional announcement, that the Dept. of Justice will recommend a federal court challenge. (I do hope the court will read the law first.)
You don’t have to agree with Arizona’s legislation, but the appropriate way to challenge it is not through a dishonest and unfair attack on every citizen of the state. Not only is this wrong, but should they succeed in shutting down a state law in this way, it is a threat to the states rights of every state in this nation. Every citizen who values the Constitution and the Rule of Law should be alarmed, because the outcome could empower this administration to continue to use these bullying techniques to shut down anything they don’t like. You have seen them attempt to use this technique with the tea parties, Glenn Beck and even Goldline. That’s Chicago style politics at its’ finest and it’s not good for any of us.
