Behind Closed Doors, Obama Will Sign the Stupak Sell-Out Executive Order

After the frat party that was the signing of the health care bill, today President Obama will quietly shut his door and sign the executive order used to buy the votes of Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and other fake pro-life Democrats.  The door will be closed, no champagne will be opened, and not a single member of the press will be able to snap a photo of the executive order that will supposedly keep abortion coverage out of the health care bill.

ABC news put it well:

Unlike yesterday’s bill-signing celebrations in the East Room and the Department of the Interior, the president will sign this executive action behind closed doors, with nary a camera present. No reporters allowed. No member of the media permitted to attend to record the moment for history.

The executive order is reported to keep tax payer funding of abortion out of America’s new government health care plan.  Actually, tax payers will still directly fund abortions for women who have been raped, involved in incest, or their life is threatened.

There are a lot of other problems with the executive order as well.  It can be rescinded tomorrow, it can be rescinded by the next president, and there is serious question if it is enforceable.  Some argue the legislation would trump the executive order in any court case.

Politifact claims that the executive order is pointless.  They contest that nothing in the wording changes anything the bill would or wouldn’t have done any way.  If that is the case, then why did Stupak and his group think this the executive order mattered?  It is obvious that they plan to use it as cover fire with their pro-life constituents in the November elections.  Thankfully true pro-lifers know the hypocrisy of these Democrats on this issue.

Also, for months the Democrats have asserted the bill would not cover abortion.  If it doesn’t cover abortion why did Obama need to sign the executive order?  Isn’t that an admission that the new health care plan possibly would have covered abortion?  And why is it that all the people who continue to deny the new health care plan will cover abortion also admit that one day they hope all abortion will be covered by tax payers for lower income women?  President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, and others in the Obama administration are all fans of and supported by NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League).  Their views match NARAL which said:

“It is deeply disappointing that Bart Stupak and other anti-choice politicians would demand the restatement of the Hyde amendment, a discriminatory law that blocks low-income women from receiving full reproductive-health care.” -Nancy Keenan, NARAL

In other words, the Democrats who passed health care reform hope and plan that one day the Hyde amendment (which is supposed to outlaw government funding of abortion) and any other blockage to full tax-payer funding of abortion will some day be removed.

And so Obama signs a bill he is not proud of nor likes for what?  To buy a handful of ‘yes’ votes for a small group of Democrats in the House who needed help not losing in November.  No wonder he is signing the bill with no media coverage.  The President and those who voted for this new health care legislation know that abortions will still often be covered in secret, and they hope and aim that one day all abortions will be paid for by the American tax payer.
