Coming to America: Sharia in Britain and its 17,000 ‘Honor’ Attacks on Women A Year

The Left’s new spin on Sharia is that it really isn’t all that bad, and we’ll never have it here anyway. So there is nothing to fear in Ground Zero mosques and pro-Sharia Imams being funded by our government to promote Islam here and abroad. The so-called liberal argument is that Sharia is a red herring of conservative haters and to warn of Sharia makes someone an Isalamaphobe. Guess the Left doesn’t pay attention to Britain.
Long before the British invasion of the Beatles, America has long been following Britain’s lead on cultural issues. Often what happens across the pond eventually makes its way to our shores. That should be eye opening when you consider Britain has been allowing Sharia courts in urban locations all over the island the last few years. As early as 2008 there were already five known Islamic law courts set up in London, Birmingham, Bradford and Manchester and Nuneaton, Warwickshire. But a study done in 2009 found at least 85 such courts, mostly existing secretly in mosques, cafes, and Muslim schools. Beginning in 2007 the UK government said that Sharia courts operate as arbitration panels and their judgments are legally binding.
So what has a few years of Sharia given to the Brits? Well, for starters an article in Forbes Magazine this week pointed out that in 2008 the UK Independent did a study and found that there were around 17,000 honor attacks on young girls and women a year by Muslims holding up Sharia ideals. This “honor violence” included kidnappings for forced marriages (girls as young as 11), sexual abuse and murder.
“These girls often are raped by their much older husbands, who may also use the marriage to immigrate to Europe, continuing the abusive treatment of their brides there as well. Usually, too, the daughters of such couples are kept at home, forbidden to live the lives of Western women, and in turn, married off themselves…and so the chain continues. And these are often the luckier ones.” – Forbes
This type of treatment of young women is really a form of modern slavery. It is happening all over Europe and even in the United States in numbers far worse than we probably would imagine. A couple of human rights organizations in America recently did a studying showing 40% of Southeast Asian women in the Boston area have been abused by such ‘honor violence’.
“Honor violence’ isn’t limited to women. Many young boys also face violence if they have premarital sex for example. And the problem with the Sharia attitude is that such violence is not only seen as just but is often considered the duty of family members. So these crimes of violence, rapes, and slavery are left unreported in the vast majority of cases.
The media has often been a culprit to these crimes as well. In Britain, America, and parts of Europe the mainstream media has portrayed these crimes simply as regular domestic abuse. Political correctness has kept people from reporting the truth. These cases aren’t simply domestic abuse cases. This is family supported, often Sharia court supported violence against children and women.
The UK Independent calls this “Britain’s hidden scandal,” but more and more we are seeing it is the West’s hidden scandal. Promoting Islam, Sharia, or mosques at Ground Zero while ignoring such crimes will only increase the violence. Regardless of politics, it’s time for people to know the truth.
