MotherJones.com Shamefully Blames Bush-Cheney for Haiti Disaster!

The Left know who really caused the earthquake in Haiti.

What is the best way to assist people experiencing one of the greatest disasters of all time?  Is it giving to the American Red Cross?  Is it praying and finding ways to help?  Not according to leftist blog MotherJones (MoJo).  They believe the best way to do disaster relief is to blame Bush-Cheney.  Yep.  While bodies are still being recovered, before the dead have even been mourned, and when aid is desperately needed – MoJo is playing politics.

In a distasteful and pathetic blog entitled “How Bush-Cheney Policy Screwed Haiti“, author James Ridgeway feigns concern and connection to Haiti only to attack the previous White House.

“US interest in the country seemed to wane with the departure of American troops, and in the aftermath of September 11 and the Bush administration’s numerous adventures around the world, Haiti returned to its usual state of invisibility in Western eyes…US policy helped to destabalize Haiti in the years leading up to 2004.” – Ridgeway

Really?  A 7.o earthquake that ripped through the country of Haiti and has left millions in need and tens of thousands dead was caused by Bush-Cheney military policy?  Do you really think now is a good time to argue that Bush’s reaction to 9-11 led to Haiti’s disaster?  I say this with no malice, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.  How dare you play political bomb throwing at a time like this.  Even if your argument had merit (which it doesn’t), now is not the time.

Ridgeway bases his argument on a 2006 New York Times piece on issues in Haiti.  However that piece points out quite clearly:

“Haiti, never a model of stability…” – NYT

We all now know from news coverage that Haiti has always had stability problems.  It has always dealt with corruption.  It already was the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere.  Moreover, it sits right on a fault line where earthquakes are likely to occur.  Can any of that be attributed to American troops going to Iraq or Afghanistan?

Moreover, even though the MoJo article places the target on Bush-Cheney, it ends by sheepishly admitting that President Barack Obama and Europe need to do better in Haiti.  Ridgeway tries to gloss over the fact that Obama’s policies have not really changed anything in regards to the US and Haiti.

The Obama administration hasn’t taken much meaingful (sic) action on Haiti in the past year… But it has implemented few of the recommendations… For the most part, Europe and the United States have continued to sit by as Haiti has grown poorer and poorer. – Ridgeway

Sadly other so-called ‘Progressive’ blogs have joined in the regressive attacks on the last President.  Bloggers on the Left, can you stop attacking Bush for at least one week?  Instead why don’t you come out of your basements and spend some of your time praying and some of your money giving to the disaster relief in Haiti.  There’s been enough real destruction this week, we don’t need the politics of destruction.  Instead let’s start building up.
