NewsReal Sunday: Chemical Ali Gets the Death Sentence and Iraqi Victims Get Justice

Chemical Ali was a King of Injustice – and now justice will be served.
Some men are so evil it boggles the mind. Some men are so vicious you wonder what insanity reigns within them. Some men are such disastrous dispensers of injustice that the blood of their victims cries out for retribution. Justice is finally going to be served to such a man.
The death penalty is a controversial topic, but not so controversial when it comes to a cretin like Chemical Ali (Ali Hassan al-Majid). Ali was sentenced to death this week by an Iraqi court. He will be hanged for ordering over 5,000 Kurds to be slaughtered with chemical weapons in 1988. Ali is a first cousin of Saddam Hussein and the most notable execution in Iraq since Sadaam was put to death three years ago.
“We will receive Chemical Ali from the Americans in the next few days and he will be executed very soon afterwards.” – Iraqi deputy Justice Minister, Busho Ibrahim
This is actually the fourth time Ali has been given a death sentence for various crimes against Iraqis. Almost 300,000 Iraqis disappeared or were slaughtered during Saddam’s reign, and Ali was his main henchman that did Saddam’s bidding. Reportedly, many Iraqis feared Ali more than Saddam.
“I think Chemical Ali deserved to be executed a long time ago.” – Iraqi citizen
Christians argue if the death penalty is biblical or not. Some think no one deserves to be executed no matter how heinous the crimes. I, however, believe the Bible speaks to this issue clearly.
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong… do what is right and he will commend you. 4 For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Romans 13:3-4
God provides governing authorities the right to carry out justice and bring punishment with the sword to those who break laws. Ali must pay for his crimes against humanity, and the Iraqis are right for doing so.
No matter your view on the Iraq war, it is a good thing that men like Chemical Ali are being punished for their evils.
