Obama Uses Prayer Breakfast to Define Opposition as Uncivil and Birthers

At a service meant for joined hands of prayer, President Obama pointed his finger at political enemies.  Leave it to the hubris of our President to righteously call for civility in politics while he paints his critics as both rude and crazy conspiracy theorists.

We now know (according to polling data stretching back to Eisenhower) that Barack Obama is the most polarizing first year President in modern American history.  One of the reasons he is so polarizing is that he and his cronies paint anyone who opposes their leftist policies as crazies, bigots, and unAmerican And because Obama is so smooth, he can simultaneously call people names while coming off to the media as above it all.  Today’s National Prayer Breakfast is a great example of that.

Just watch, with nose turned upward, how Obama shoots down the lack of civility while politely trashing his enemies.

“We need to find our way back to civility…Civility also requires learning how to disagree without being disagreeable…  I am the first to confess that I am not always right. . . But surely, you can question my policies without questioning my faith, or, for that matter, my citizenship.” – Obama

The President has become famous for how slick and polished he can be on the microphone.  This speech is a great example.  He gets away with using a prayer breakfast as an opportunity to attack and pigeon hole anyone who disagrees with him as Birthers and crazies.  He reminds me of a Pharisee mentioned by Jesus in the gospels.  This particular pompous Pharisee looked down on sinners and thanked God he wasn’t lowly like them.  Of course, the point of that lesson was the prideful religious ruler was the one in real sin – not the people he was putting down.

We also get a glimpse of how the President defines civility in this speech.  Obama must define civility as giving up your beliefs to agree with his.  To make matters worse, he gives subtle digs to the consevatives he is attempting to compliment for agreeing with him.

“We see (civility) in many conservative pastors who are helping…to fix our broken immigration system.  It is not what would be expected from them…We see that in the evangelical leaders who are rallying their congregations to protect our planet.” – Obama

So Obama believes that when his opponents give into his agenda on things like amnesty or Cap-and-Trade, it is only then that they have finally learned to be civil.  What a convenient definition.

If the President really wants a more civil Washington then he should drastically change his approach.  He needs to stop attacking and start seeking to work with those on the other side of the table.  President Bill Clinton learned this lesson, but only after a massive loss in the mid-term elections.  I wonder how many seats will the Democrats have to lose in November for Obama to catch on?
