Carl Paladino, the Tea Party-backed candidate for Governor of New York, not only got a huge victory on Tuesday in his upset win for the GOP primary, but he got a second triumph on Wednesday by laying the smack down on Rick Sanchez. Usually only conservative commentators like Ann Coulter or Glenn Beck have the chutzpah to call out Sanchez for his bias. Rarely do you see a politician take an inept journalist to task. And Paladino did it calmly, smoothly, and matter-of-factly.
Sanchez obviously had Paladino on “Rick’s List” to try to skewer the man as the latest ‘wing-nut’ Tea Partier. But he didn’t realize what he was getting into. He gave Paladino two segments and most of it was about Islam and the mosque at Ground Zero. Sanchez hoped to make Paladino look like a bigot for standing against the Cordoba Initiative mosque.
Sanchez desperately attempted to condemn Paladino for saying Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf wanted Sharia law in the United States. Rick rejected Paladino’s claims and declared that it was “his job to be correct” and this was “not about interpretations it is about facts.” Of course, anyone who follows Smarmy Sanchez’s blogs knows that Rick has no idea what facts are. He either makes them up or just chooses the ones he wants to believe depending on who said them. If it attacks a conservative it must be true (think claims Rush Limbaugh said racist stuff he never said), but if it attacks a progressive or a Muslim then it must be a lie. One problem, Paladino’s comments about Sharia were accurate. Imam Rauf has written a book and been caught on video calling “America a Sharia compliant state.”
Ronald Regan could have been talking about Rick Sanchez when he famously said,
Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.
Paladino gets what Reagan understood: Sanchez knows so much that isn’t so. He’s quite simply a blind advocate for Progressive ideals, and Paladino tells Sanchez just that:
