Gitmo Lawyer Julia Tarver Mason: Aiding, Abetting … and Not Talking

Visit Pajamas.

Yesterday morning, I had an encounter on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. with Julia Tarver Mason — a lawyer who represents several accused terrorists.

I found that Ms. Mason is more willing to speak with terrorists then reporters.

My interest in Ms. Mason began two nights ago, when I read the investigative piece by Debra Burlingame and Thomas Joscelyn in the Wall Street Journal regarding 400 American lawyers from high priced law firms who have “volunteered” their time to personally wage “lawfare” on behalf of enemy combatants held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. One of the premier firms involved is Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, which boasted in 2007: “Paul, Weiss achieves more victories for Guantanamo detainees.” Ms. Julia Tarver Mason is a partner in the firm.

In 2006, Mason was banned from Guantanamo Bay by the base commander and the U.S. Department of Justice for secretly passing on anti-American propaganda and operational detention details to her “client.”

This client was Majeed Abdullah Al Joudi. Al Joudi, a Saudi member of the Taliban and al-Qaeda, was captured in Afghanistan in 2001. In 2004, it was disclosed at his combat status review tribunal that he was “was captured with al-Qaeda surveillance evasion reports and after-action reports.”

The anti-American propaganda Mason secretly passed on to Mr. Al Joudi was a slick, inflammatory 18-page color brochure — written entirely in Arabic — that slammed American detention policy as “that of anti-Arab, anti-Islamic, and other racist abuse.” It was filled with pictures of masked, bound, and kneeling prisoners, and according to the Wall Street Journal, “included pictures of what appeared to be detainee operations in Iraq.”

Ms. Mason had been secretly sending incendiary materials to her client through a system called “legal mail,” which is supposed to be strictly legal correspondence between a lawyer and the enemy combatant. According to Burlingame and Joscelyn, a 2004 protective order by federal Judge Joyce Hens Green forbids the lawyers to give out any information on political news, current events, or the names of U.S. government personnel.

Ms. Mason and her other Paul, Weiss lawyers were banned by Major General Jay W. Hood, then commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo. General Hood said — in a sworn affidavit submitted to the D.C. District Court, obtained by Burlingame and Joscelyn under the Freedom of Information Act — that the pamphlet aided and abetted the terrorists there:

The very nature of this document gives tremendous moral support to those who would strike out against our country.

It is not a factual report.

In addition to 400 eager, high priced defense attorneys, the terrorists can rely on obam, as well. Former prosecutor Kyndra Rotunda wrote in her book, “Honor Bound,” that during the time she took part on the U.S. army prosecution of Guantanamo Bay 9/11 conspirators, a few weeks after obam took office, the obam administration halted the trials of the conspirators that attempted to plead guilty. Furthermore, after presiding Judge Pohl instructed obam that halting the trials was in violation of the Military Commission, obam removed Judge Pohl from the bench.

In the audio of the confession of Guantanamo's Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, he not only confessed to more than 20 acts of terrorism, including the beheading Daniel Pearl, but corrected small inaccuracies in the official record/confession.

With his first executive order, obam dropped all charges against Al-Nashiri; top al-Qaeda operative after he confessed to killing 17 U.S. sailors.

With obam in their corner, they don't need 400 volunteers, they just need to keep what they already have; obam and The Al Qaeda 7 (attorneys obam appointed to the Justice Dept. who previously represented or advocated for terror suspects). How lucky can a terrorist get?

Every Military Man and Woman takes an OATH. It's an OATH of Allegiance. It's an OATH of Allegiance to the CONSTITUTION. They swear to PROTECT and DEFEND the Constitution of the United States, from all enemies, Foreign and DOMESTIC. I contend that BARAK OBAMA is that DOMESTIC ENEMY. ERIC HOLDER is that DOMESTIC ENEMY.
In Ancient ROME, the Emperor had an ELITE GUARD. They were the Praetorian Guard. They protected the Emperor, but their ALLEGIANCE was to the EMPIRE. More than one Roman Emperor, threatening the Stability, and Power of the Empire, was PUT DOWN by the Praetorians. Their OATH was to the EMPIRE.
Our own SECRET SERVICE is fashioned after the Praetorians. Right down to their OATH. They Protect the President, but their TRUE ALLEGIANCE is to the CONSTITUTION. "All enemies, Foreign and DOMESTIC".
I pray, that when the time comes, and I have no doubt that it will, that the PRAETORIANS will obey their OATH, and DO what needs to be DONE. Protect the CONSTITUTION.

    Tarver, from "The Guantanamo Lawyers":

If you had told me ten years ago that our government would be deliberately holding people in captivity on a naval base outside the U.S. mainland so that we could do whatever we wanted to them without the intervention of U.S. courts, I would have told you that you had watched too many miniseries on T.V. If you had told me that the government would have refused even to release the names of those human beings so their families would know where they were, I would have told you to stop reading all those Tom Clancy novels. Sadly, though, this isn't fiction. This is what is happening today, in the country I love so much.

If you would have told me 10 years ago that within the next 18 months, hijacked airplanes would take down the twin towers and nearly destroyed the Pentagon, I would have told you that you were watching too many tv movies and read too many Tom Clancy novels. Sadly though, it wasn't fiction. Today, we are conferring rights on terrorists, in defiance of about 700 years of habeas corpus jurisprudence and fretting over how not to offend those who would slaughter us at every opportunity. This is what is happening today, in the country I love so much.

If you had told me that my government held italian and german american citizens in internment camps during ww2 I wouldn't have believed you but they did. If you hsd told me that FDR REFUSED to changed immigration policies to permit jewish children to be sent to the US to asvoid extermination I wouldn't have believed you.. If you had told me that a man would go to jail for undercharging someone by 10Cents i wouldn't have believed you…..I could go on and on and on and on. We hace NEVER had a perfect government but THIS JERK PRESIDENT tops them all in his determination to enslave us all.

For many years, we in Australia have been increasingly worried about the power of lawers in your country, we have continualy warned the US that this power will come back to bit you badly, now you guys are reaping the rewards of your polititions abuse of power by bringing into law such inclusive powers to lawers to aid the guilty and punish the inocent.

Time to take back your power and put the lawers and pollies where they belong under the servitude of the populace.

Anyone volunteering their services to protect and defend enemies of America is doing so not to benefit their clients but to denigrate the United States. The motivation of the Left is simple: do whatever is necessary to trash and condemn the US, which they despise in their hateful hearts and minds. We need not wonder why they detest the US so any more than we need to understand why Ilsamists seek to destroy us. It is sufficient to realize that to them we are the enemy, not those who seek to subjugate us or eliminate us. Ms. Mason should be removed from the Justice Department because we don't need to be debating her motivations. We need to be protecting this country and ourselves and getting rid of her is one tangible way of doing so.
