Ahmadinejad Swaggers at the UN

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was back in New York Monday, continuing his effort to intimidate and shame Barack Obama into dropping his policy of retaining first-strike capability against rogue states such as Iran. For 35 minutes at the UN, Ahmadinejad did his best impression of an anti-nuke crusader, working to eradicate these weapons for humanity’s sake. Behind his peacenik façade (which is sure to take in many on the Left), however, lurks a reality that couldn’t be more contrasting.

“The possession of nuclear bombs isn’t a source of pride,” Ahmadinejad intoned piously, sounding like a spokesman for Greenpeace. “It is disgusting and rather shameful. And even more shameful is the threat to use or to use such weapons, which isn’t even comparable to any crime committed throughout the history.”

And of course top on the Iranian President’s list of “disgusting” and “shameful” countries was Israel: “While the Zionist regime has stockpiled hundreds of nuclear warheads…it enjoys the unconditional support of the United States government and its allies and receives, as well, the necessary assistance to develop its nuclear weapons program.”

Referring to Obama’s reservation of first-strike capability, Ahmadinejad said that signers of the Non-Proliferation Treaty should consider “any threat to use nuclear weapons or attack against peaceful nuclear facilities as a breach of international peace and security,” and punish the offenders accordingly.

Delegates from the U.S., Britain and France walked out of the UN General Assembly during Ahmadinejad’s speech. Perhaps they didn’t relish having to sit through the absurd charade of a ruthless despot, the president of a country that gives aid to the jihad terror groups Hamas and Hizballah and yearns to wipe Israel off the map, being allowed to enter the United States and accuse it of being a terrorist state — all the while defending his nuclear program.

This was the same Ahmadinejad, after all, who just weeks ago warned Israel not to attack the jihadists in Gaza who still shoot rockets into Israel and plot the destruction of the Jewish State: “An attack on Gaza would not make you mightier,” he said, addressing the “Zionist entity,” “and would not restore your damaged prestige. And you should know that an attack on Gaza will end your inauspicious and filthy life.”

What could end Israel’s “inauspicious and filthy life” except…a nuclear attack?

These are favorite themes of Ahmadinejad’s public utterances. In mid-March, he declared: “Today, it is clear that Israel is the most hated regime in the world… It is not useful for its masters [the West] anymore. They are in doubt now. They wonder whether to continue spending money on this regime or not. But whether they want it or not, with Allah’s grace, this regime will be annihilated and Palestinians and other regional nations will be rid of its bad omen.”

How will Israel be “annihilated,” except by…a nuclear strike?

Iranian Major General Hassan Firouzabadi declared in early April: “If America presents Iran with a serious threat and undertakes any measure against Iran, none of the American soldiers who are currently in the region would go back to America alive.”

Not one? Not even one? How could the Iranians possibly accomplish that, except with…nuclear weapons?

Ahmadinejad mocked Obama’s impotence, telling him in an April 7 address that, faced with Iran’s nuclear program, American leaders who were “bigger than you, more bullying than you, couldn’t do a damn thing, let alone you.”

And indeed, the thuggish Iranian president is probably right about that. Barack Obama’s wrongheaded and weak policy of “engagement” has put a swagger in Ahmadinejad’s step. Besides funding Hamas and Hizballah and egging on their genocidal intentions toward Israel, Iran is training the Taliban in Afghanistan in the most effective use of roadside bombs, and continuing to meddle in Iraq.

For all this we have one man to thank above all: Barack Obama. After a year of Obama’s dogged wooing of the Iranian mullahs, his scandalous refusal to support the anti-regime protestors in Iran, and his abject failure to do anything effective to counter the Iranian nuclear program, which even his own Secretary of State now acknowledges is working toward developing nuclear weapons, the only thing the president has to show for his policy is an increasingly confident, belligerent and assertive Iran.

It was good that the Americans left the General Assembly hall while Ahmadinejad was speaking Monday. Now they should back this up by changing course, and showing more spine in the face of Iran’s bullying. But there is no sign that that is going to happen.

So iran is building nuclear weapons you say? why don't you give us some proof of this instead of lying like everyother western newspaper that covers the subject? maybee there is something you know that the rest of the world including the IAEA doesn't.

Actually, ElBaradei himself eventually confirmed that all the evidence points to Iran trying to conceal its weapons program. There is also the hard evidence of Iran having secretly procured critical detonation hardware for use in its ballistic missiles. I could go on with more evidence but I suspect that when one prefers to deny their validity, whatever they are, its a useless game. Iran isn't guilty–its the U.S., just trying to play politics, right???

Do not believe Robert Spencer, Believe Ahmadinejad who affirmed (one month ago) that Iran has joined the ATOMIC CLUB, and nobody will dare to threat Iran.

    • Carlos

you are an idiot. I can't believe that you even lie to yourself. Why don't you move to Iran.

It's kind of difficult to read an article when you're blind, isn't it?

    Nuclear Iran.
Iran is determined to acquire and develop nuclear warheads. The UN sanctions regime did not work; Iran has many resources at its disposal to hire nuclear scientists and related equipment. After all it has the whole state apparatus at its disposal to conduct this kind of illegal activity. Without decisive use of force, we may only expect a nuclear war, a massive amount of victims and, yes reaction by democracies when it is already too late for many of our citizens. This might be the ultimate lesson learnt from the Versailles fiasco. More about the M-E and nuclear Iran : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2009/10/s

You always have gun, I would always fight you without gun.

Atomic bomb is not a treatment to human disease, nuke is to have killing all kind not only human.

If Israel have it in the Middle east let every county around Israel have it as well, or let everyone help to to abounded Israeli's nuke and be living in peace.

    • Democracy First

There's a reason Arab countries never were much concerned about Israel's nuclear abilities: it's a sane democracy. And there's a reason Arab nations dread an iranian nuclear capability: it's a nation run by fanatical lunatics with genocidal intent, governing without the consent of its people.

Sorry, your equivalence argument fails, utterly.

    • Democracy First

Here's another reason why Israel keeping nukes for defensive reasons is an altogether different story than the Nazi like regime of Iran possessing them:

Spencer hits the nail right on the head. Iran's Ayatollah has a bully's mentality. Backing down from a sadist can only lead to provocation.

Atomic warfare exists as American in invention. It is the crowning achievement of the absurdity known as World War II. As American in nature, we have a role as gatekeepers of the technology, although it has been historically horribly mismanaged.

I am serious in this, the rest of the world should be thinking why America, with a proven missile shield, does not proactively nuke everyone else in the world. After all, it is our right, ain't it?

  • eerie Steve

There was waste plutonium found by the IAEA in 2006 which only can serve as WMD.

  • enudraco

Mental experiment (for those who have brain of course):
If Muslims disarm tomorrow, result? Peace in the world….
If Israelis disarms tomorrow, result? Genocide….

  • Democracy First

    You're clearly right.

Only anti-Semites can see it otherwise.

  • Draza

This dirtbag Hitler wannabe should be banned from setting foot in the US. In fact he should be targeted for elimination along with the rest of the shit regime in Iran. Mullahs and all the rest.

    Exactly …

  • seels4truth

To all the haters: Iran IS rushing full speed ahead to build a nuclear arsenal and it probably has already built at least 1 bomb. The difference between Israel having a nuclear arsenal and Iran having a nuclear arsenal? Sanity! Israel has never called for the destruction of any Arab country. Iran has repeatedly said it will use the bomb to kill all the Jews in Israel. That is a huge difference that obviously is not huge enough for obtuse haters.

    • Jim C.

I agree that there is a huge difference between Israel having nukes, and Iran having nukes.

By the same token, we have been told, literally for 20 years, and usually by Israel, that Iran was "this close" to having nuclear weapons and that "we should do something about it right now!!!!" There is such a thing as crying wolf. If and when Iran builds its nuke, that's when we should take decisive action. (Or let Israel off its chain). I'm a little burnt out on "pre-emption."

And yes, I would "risk it," if that's your answer.

  • Shalom Freedman

The charade continues. Ahmadinejad is beside being a terrorist murderer and torturer a skilled liar and propagandist. The problem is however not that the U.S. is not stopping his words. The problem is that it is doing nothing to stop Iran's attaining a nuclear weapon, as it did nothing to help the human rights activists when they were demonstrating against the regime of the mullahs.

    • guest

Its not the U.S. who is not stopping his words–Obama is SO determined to polish the face of Islam that not only will he NEVER use the word "Muslim" and "Terrorist" in the same sentence, he will never go ballistic on Ahmadinejad or confront him whatsoever. As I have written here, I believe that part of Obama's agenda is to STRENGTHEN Iran in its capacity for a nuclear arsenal. Hey, it sounds crazy to me too–but that would only be if someone ELSE was in the White House now. I will add this to my comment about his perhaps being a Trojan Horse. Just within weeks, UNBELIEVABLY told the Israelis that he would "get hard on Iran" if they would comply with his agenda. This is more than disgusting. What "ally" would negotiate the very SURVIVAL of a nation they claim is an ally by offering such a SICK trade–and while having NO credibility (a mere 9% of all Israelis in polls show ANY trust of him whatsoever). Again, this is another act that buttresses my personal belief that Obama in fact is subtly working towards the destruction of Israel as he strengthens his ties to Arab regimes (no matter HOW despotic).

      • Jim C.

What kind of dimwit expects the president of the world's most powerful country to "go ballistic" on some tyrant's puppet? Talk about losing face. Good thing emotional crybabies like you aren't in charge.

Love to hear your actual evidence for your moronic delusions that Obama is in league with the Muslim nations, but I won't hold my breath.

China and Russia have their own Anti-American Agenda and economic ties big time with Iran and will never support sanctions on Iran other than slaps on the wrist as window dressing. Ahmadinejad knows this and Buraq Hussein and his inept Secretary of State Hag Clinton know it yet they take on anti Israeli stance with the Palestinians, so Ahmadinejad just laughs right in our faces because our threats to Iran do not amount to more than the equivalent of a fly bussing in his ear.

  • guest

Is OBAMA a Trojan Horse??? Never in my life have I been a conspiracy theorist. But when I look at the pattern of this man's tenure in the White House, coupled with his past associations with some of the more vehement anti-Jewish/Israel characters on the political scene, I keep coming back to what seems obvious to me–that in FACT he is abetting Iran's race to a nuclear arsenal while using the "sanctions" mantra as a total front for the past 15 months. He HAS accepted a nuclear Iran–despite the threat to a previous ally named Israel and refused the Israelis some critical weaponry should they decide to go it alone. Obama may have worn the mantle of a Christian to further his career but he WAS brought up as a Muslim and it seems clear to me where his sentiments lay. To NOT confront Iran militarily at this point is SO unconscionable that only a President who is not sympathetic to that regime would permit such a monstrous thing to come to pass. I have respect for the Iranian people, but Obama will not even confront Ahmadinejad VERBALLY. In fact, Netanyahu was bashed by him while he is virtually silent over the outrageous statements of this dangerous Iranian clown.

What a relief. I thought Ahmadnutjob would lead another United Nations attack on the UnN. refrigerator. Those guys at the U.N. have big appetites.

  • Jim C.

So, aside from you having no evidence of Obama associating with anti-Jewish/Israel characters, and ignoring all Obama has said and done in support of Israel (a matter of record you can look up), let's think for one second what would happen if Obama decided to criticize a guy the whole world ALREADY KNOWS is a risible thug–just for the sake of placating emotional people in this country like yourself.

What happens if Obama loses his cool and flies off the handle at Iran? Well, then Iran gets belligerent back. Ahmadinejad will feel legitimate–powerful–as he dares the U.S. into a game of brinksmanship HE CAN'T POSSIBLY LOSE. And all those Iranians who hate their regime say "Wait, is the U.S. going to attack us? Are they going to bomb us? Or have they just helped Ahmadinejad consolidate power?"

You gotta understand how this works.

    • SAM000

I think that you take your dreams as the IRANIANS will!!
No my friend, We the Iranians, we hate Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs, they are our BUTCHERS, we have the people killed everyday on the streets by the Passdarans and Bassijis.

The only reason that this Criminal regime exist is the SUPERPOWER APPEASEMENT POLICY towards the Mullahs.

Yes my friend, your US GOVERNMENTS ( right and left) were and are supporting the MULLAHS against our people.

Your Administrations label terrorist anyone who fights the MULLAHS.

That's why a worm like Ahmadinejad is so emboldened.

We just received the new BCN kits in Israel. Every citizen is entitled to one.
Masks and decon kits capable of supporting life for a while when attacked with Bacteriological, Chemical or Nuclear WMD.
I wonder if the anti-Semite monsters could explain to me why we have to do this and no islamic state worries about their citizens and distributes masks and kits to those suposedly threatened by Israel?
May I suggest that the case shows that while Israel never threatens to destroy anyone, the islamic monsters live only to destroy others, even each other.
Islam is at the core of world mayhem and in murderous violence and almost invariably one of those maniacs is involved on bombings, suicide and otherwise, attacks on schools, theaters, subways, buildings, trains, restaurants, aircraft, cruise ships, you name it.
They live on a steady diet of hatred and blood stained aberrations.
Violent Islam and their co travelers must be folded back before they destroy civilization.

The Jews and the Republicans want to invade Iran to steal its oil. The reason that they both want sanctions brought against Iran is to weaken it to make it easier to invade. Israel must agree to have IAEA inspections of its nuclear weapons, because it is the biggest danger to all of us. My money is on the Jewish people organising another 9/11 and blaming it on Iran.
