A Laughable Tweet Today: The Nation and The Prez Pull off a Postal Service Two-fer

Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor for The Nation tweets today:

“Obama’s smart YouTube answer/when asked whether good or bad idea: “Should postal service be privatized?” “Bad idea’” Obama said.

WOW!  Only 140 characters yet doubly wrong.

To the writers at the leftist Nation: What in the world makes Obama’s answer ‘smart’?

And to our illustrious leader:  Seriously?  The postal service is so terrifically run now that  privatization is a ‘bad idea’?

Reality check time:  the U.S. Post Service suffered a net loss of $3.8 billion for fiscal 2009.

What clear headed individual would think that the Postal Service should NOT be privatized?  Right now the Postal Service is the second largest employer in our country.  Only Wal-Mart employs more people than our beloved postal service.  And maybe, just maybe Wal-Mart is a tiny bit more strategic and thus actually profitable. What a concept!

Or you might consider Postal Service competitor Fed Ex who also had a tough year  but has responded with a plan to save another billion dollars in 2010 by reducing personnel and work hours, streamlining technology and finding greater economies of scale.

Hold your horses right there buster, what kind of crazy talk is this?  Streamlining?  Finding economies of scale?  In something run under the auspices of the federal gov’t?

Anyone can see that would be a “bad idea” which wouldn’t be “smart” at all.
