3D Star Wars Coming to Theaters, Many Fans Less Than Thrilled

Star Wars is on it’s way back to theaters in 2012. Creator George Lucas has long hinted at his intention to re-re-release his popular space saga utilizing state-of-the-art exhibition technology.
Lucasfilm Ltd and Twentieth Century Fox film studio, which are behind the movies, said on Wednesday they will release 3D versions of all six films to theaters starting with “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” in 2012.
The movies will be converted to 3D by the special effects wizards at Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic.
The Hollywood Reporter states each subsequent film in the series will be released annually. The films will then make their way to 3D home theaters which should – by 2018 – be relatively common.
Interestingly, not everyone is happy with the development. In fact, ABC News reports “fans seem angered” by Lucas’s latest attempt to milk his greatest cash cow. Their comments evoke past Star Wars disappointments.
For every “I’ll be first in line,” there are another 20-30 Web comments along the lines of “SW is just a machine now,” “I’ll stay away in droves,” “Lucas is beating a dead horse” or “Never have I seen something so amazing be systematically destroyed.”
Somehow I doubt, when the time comes, such fans will stay away from theaters. Curiosity and nostalgia will get the best of them, especially if they have children.
