Norway’s “Boycott” of Pro-Israel Speakers

Pages: 1 2

It was then that I realized why all this was happening.  At all of the Norwegian universities, there have been efforts to enact an academic and cultural boycott of Jewish Israeli academics.  This boycott is directed against Israel’s “occupation” of Palestinian land, but the occupation that the hundreds of signers referred to is not of the West Bank but rather of every single inch of Israel.  Here is the first line of the petition:  “Since 1948 the state of Israel has occupied Palestinian land…”  Not surprisingly, the administrations of the universities have refused to go along with this form of academic collective punishment of all Jewish Israeli academics.  So the formal demand for an academic and cultural boycott has failed.  But in practice, it exists.  Jewish pro-Israel speakers are subjected to a de facto boycott.  Moreover, all Jews are presumed to be pro-Israel unless they have a long track record of anti-Israel rhetoric.

Read the words of the first signer of the academic boycott petition—an assistant professor of Trondheim named Trond Andresen as he writes about the “Jews”—not the Israelis!

“There is something immensely self-satisfied and self-centered at the tribal mentality that is so prevalent among Jews.  [Not] only the religious but also a large proportion of the large secular group consider their own ethnic group as worth more than all other ethnic groups.  [Jews] as a whole, are characterized by this mentality…it is no less legitimate to say such a thing about Jews in 2008-2009 than it was to make the same point about the Germans around 1938.  [There is] a red carpet for the Jewish community…and a new round of squeezing and distorting the influence of the quite dry Holocaust lemon….”

This line of talk—directed at Jews not Israel or Israelis—is apparently acceptable among many in the elite of Norway.  Consider former Prime Minister Kare Willock’s reaction to President Obama’s selection of Rahm Emanuel as his first Chief of Staff:

“IT does not look too promising, he has chosen a chief of staff who is Jewish, and it is a matter of fact that many Americans look to the Bible rather than to the realities of today….”

Willock, of course, did not know anything about Emanuel’s views.  He based his criticism on the sole fact that Emanuel is a Jew.

All Jews are apparently the same in this country that has done everything in its power to make life in Norway nearly impossible for Jews.  Norway was apparently the first modern nation to prohibit the production of Kosher meat, while at the same time permitting Halal meat and encouraging the slaughter of seals, whales and other animals that are protected by international treaties.  No wonder less than 1000 Jews live in Norway. No wonder the leader of the tiny and frightened Jewish community didn’t get around to meet me during my visit to his country.  (The Chabad rabbi did reach out to me and I had a wonderful visist with a group of Norwegian Jews at the Chabad house.)  It reminded me of my visits to the Soviet Union in the bad old days.

The current foreign minister of Norway recently wrote an article in the New York Review of Books, justifying his contacts with Hamas, a terrorist group that demands the destruction of Israel.  He said that the essential philosophy of Norway has always been to encourage “dialogue.”  But I’m afraid that that dialogue in Norway these days is entirely one-sided.  Hamas and its supporters are invited into the dialogue, but supporters of Israel are excluded by an implicit, yet very real, boycott against pro-Israel views.

This is absolutely shameful. I fear for the Jews in Norway. What is to be done?

  • SHmuelHaLevi

Norway is squarely an enemy country. Jews in Norway chose freely to be there and in many instances joined and join the "aktions" against Israel and Jews.
That applies not only to Norway's Jews but to a significant number of other film-flam Jews. Those unJews allied with arch enemies of Israel consistently and some of them now pose as quasi repentant persons. A ploy unlikely to be forgiven.
The ghastly plot to force an "Oslo and Geneva peace process", included direct bribery to buy votes in Parliament from day one and kept on going down that sewer ever since. Uncluding arming he enemy much as their club Membership Head, Soetoro, does in Libya.
They caused or tacitly promoted Oslo and its derivatives, including thousands of "victims of peace".
Norway is just a bit ahead of the pack borne from that "peace process".

    Europe is a goner.

Norwegians were largely Nazi sympathizers during the last conflagration so that doesn't suprise anyone. What does suprise is how virulent Europe in general has become towards the Jews and Israel promoted by Jihadists who are certainly the driving political force in Europe today. When Alan Dershowitz offers free copies of his book "The case for Israel" and this important work is rejected by Norwegian Universities this actually becomes terribly serious in evaluating the case for academia and the effectiveness of higher learning institutions in the 21st century. What are students being taught? What bibliography is available to students whose officials reject works from authors of the caliber of Dershowitz ? Europe is "shutting it's ears" again just as they did during WW2 in the denial of the holocaust whilst it was happening in their own back yards.Regrettably the population mix of Europe has changed dramatically which has exacerbated the now fashionable rejection of the Holocaust and is fueling antisemitism to a level not seen since WW2. What is the meaning of the phrase "Never Again? I shudder to think!

    • Viking

"Norwegians were largely Nazi sympathizers during the last conflagration so that doesn't suprise anyone."

Nasjonal Samling got 1,41% of the votes in 1936….

I was privilidged to attend such a 'private' lecture from Alan in Cape Town SA just recently (he was not allowed to speak officially at the local university) and I can assure you that whatever is applicable in Norway with regards to anti Israel & anti semitism etc is just as applicable in post apartheid SA. Amongst the ruling party elitists it is mandatory & even fashionable to hold such anti Israel and anti Zionist perspectives. They consider Palestinians as their 'comrades' from way back during the apartheid era and identify with the Palestinian cause today in the exact same way as they believed in their struggle during the apartheid years. As you can imagine it is not very pleasant as Jewish South African to be subject to this continual anti Israel and anti Zionist vitriol that is so pervasive in this country today. South Africa is clearly an enemy of Israel with close diplomatic ties to countries like Libya, Venezuala, Iran, N Korea, China and of course the Palestinians – I am clearly not a proud South African!

    • Raymond in DC

Apropos, the Senate at the University of Johannesburg just voted to end its ties with Ben Gurion University, putting at risk a project dealing with a shortage of clean water in SA. (Israel and BGU are among the world leaders in dealing with water issues.)

      • JoergensenDK

Maybe they will change their minds when they run out of clean water….

        • Farrel

Not this lot! – to them the principal of the matter is far more important than a few million thirsty brothers!

      • Farrel

Case in point! The sad thing is this mickey mouse of a university in SA does not make it into even the top 8000 ranked universities in the world yet they have the affrontry to dictate terms to and assume the moral high ground over BGU which I know is a world leader in this field and also within the top 250 senates in the world. But then we all know who the 'dean' of faculties at UJ is – one Adam Habib whom until just very recently (if I am not mistaken) was barred from entry into USA as an enemy of the state. Shame on UJ! – the poor & disposessed masses in SA (of which there are many millions) are the only ones who will suffer as a result of this decision.

      • jaythehistorian

Maybe the Nazi midget crackpot Desmond Tutu could call his friends the Fakestinians to find water for the detestable Jew haters in SA.

Being a Scandinavian I am so deeply ashamed of Norway's track record recently. I truly don't get how these people end up with such horrid opinions.
But before you give up on us permanently, please remember that the left wing in government in Norway presently, did not get a popular majority – they are only there because the votes from the country side counts more, and out there they are more cut of from information + have and old alliance with the left.

These people in high offices at universities are there because meritocracy has stopped functioning at social and humanities departments long ago. This is why, I believe, Scandinavian researchers are wildly under-published in international publications – except science which can compete with the rest of the Western world just fine. These people don't even bother to submit their articles to peer review publications but stick to small local/national magazines where everybody always agrees already.

So please call 'us' out on this utter disgrace – but don't forget that you might have a still sleeping majority on your side – there most certainly is an opposition here for you to join forces with!

Many greetings and apologies from over here :)

The same thing happened to the USA. The left wing loonie liberals took control of the nation and are making a typical democratic mess of it. As for the USA, Most of the immoral leaning left are in the big cities, while the traditional God fearing people are in the smaller cities and the countryside. Our country was hijacked and hopefully we can get it back. So I know how you feel…

    • ziontruth

      Thanks, Joergensen.

I wish you good luck in taking your country back from the Marxists, just as I wish the same to all nation-states under this menace, including Israel, my own.

What do you expect from a country that allows negro immgrant Muslims to gang rape their white women. Muslim men look upon Infidel women and it is endorsed in the mosques. In Europe, Muslim non-white immigrants engage in the ritual gang rape of white women ….The ritual is known as a tournante, meaning "Take your turn," and it consists of a black male becoming friendly with (seducing) a white female, preferably a teenager. Once they've become chums, the male lures the girl to a location where his buddies in the gang take their turns with her. When they are through they savagely beat the girl more often than not so she won't report them.

    • Chezwick_Mac

Why do you insist on seeing everything through a racial prism? Most of the Muslims in Norway – THE RAPISTS – are from the Middle-East and Pakistan!

      • USMCSniper

Some of us see the truth as it is and speak it! No they are not they are blacks from North Africa. What a PC metro you are!

        • Chezwick_Mac

What an idiot you are! There are so many Pakistanis in Norway that there are more flights out of Oslo every day to Lahore, Pakistan than there are to New York City. But don't let the truth get in the way of your racist bullsh*t.

          • USMCSniper

In Norway and Sweden, journalist Fjordman warns of a rape epidemic. Police Inspector Gunnar Larsen stated that the steady increase of rape-cases and the link to ethnicity are clear, unmistakable trends. Two out of three persecutions for rape in Oslo are immigrants with a non-Western background (the bad ones in Sweden are from North Africa) and 80 percent of the victims are Norwegian women. In Sweden, according to translator for Jihad Watch, Ali Dashti, "Gang rapes, usually involving colored Muslim immigrant males and native Swedish girls, have become commonplace." A few weeks ago she said.

Now in America according to the U.S. Justice Department 2005 rape statistics URL: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/cvus0502.pdf
Scroll to Table 42. –> 37,460 White women raped by Negroes, zero Negro women raped by White men.

          • Chezwick_Mac

Again, the rapes in Scandinavia are being perpetrated by Muslims of all nationalities, particularly the Pakistanis who make up the bulk of the Muslim immigrant community. The problem is religion/culture, not skin color. Time to get over your bigotry.

PS – Your link didn't work.

Is anyone surprised?? These dispicable actions serve to underscore the need for a neverending strong State of Israel and advocates to continually tell "our story"…

  • Hans Erik

As an American of Norwegian ancestry, I admit I am embarrassed by the country from time to time. For instance, when Obama won the peace prize…or the fact they still have a King…adding insult to injury he is not even Norwegian. However, one thing I am not ashamed of is their alleged support of the Third Reich, or their alleged current Nazis tendencies.
Post WWII, Norway passed a law making it per se proof of insanity to have German blood. Any half Norwegian half German love child of the occupation was brutalized for being the offspring of a German soldier. During WWII the Norwegians fought the Nazis throughout the occupation from within and without. The notion that Norwegians are, were, or might be Nazi sympathizers is idiotic.
It is akin to making the same allegations about Americans, supporting the outrageous claim by asserting the present administration’s policy toward Israel as proof of the statement.
The idiocy of the Norwegian left-wing ruling elite is no better, no different, nor any worse than that of any other country. It (ruling elite idiocy) also is no more representative of the average Norwegian’s opinion than it is in any other country. Read the article again…the students applauded prior to and after his speech…it was the damn academics and government that gave him a hard time.
The tragedy is the same in Norway as it is in the United States…we allow them to govern us!

    • Chezwick_Mac

      Quisling might disagree.

      • Chiggles

Remember what they did with him, though.

"Post WWII, Norway passed a law making it per se proof of insanity to have German blood. Any half Norwegian half German love child of the occupation was brutalized for being the offspring of a German soldier."

How exactly does it speak well of Norway to legalize brutality of any innocent child, for being half German? That is as idiotic as Nazis sending someone half-Jewish to a concentration camp.

It doesn't matter… The true Christians know that the Jewish people are still God's chosen people and the Jewish people will never cease to exist. We just believe that you are under God's judgment. Our wish is that the Jewish people would recognize that the Messiah Jesus came for them, but He was rejected. So now He is allowing the gentiles into his fold. We just aren't His "chosen" people, like the Jewish people are. I am just sorry that there are so many prominent jews that are anti-semitic, like George Soros…

  • Syd Chaden

It's interesting to see how hatred becomes an elitist virtue when it is propounded by universities. Apparently, Norwegian academians are not very different from their American counterparts.

  • truebearing

Is this fool, Trond Andresen, so stupid as to fail to see the irony of his comments comparing Jews to Nazis when it is the Norwegian academics who are sounding like the Nazis of 1938?

I have heard the ethnic stereotype of Norwegians as "blockheads" and have taken it as a personal insult, as I have substantial Norwegian heritage, but now I fear there may be some truth to the charge.

Norway has never fully expunged the evil virus of Nazism from its ranks, and has somehow stayed too isolated, resulting in a pernicious ideological, and possibly genetic, inbreeding.

It seems the outporing of evil, both from the left and Islam, has made many sane minds loosen their traditional ties in favor of the truth. Many Jews now see the left for the enemy it is, and now I see Norway for the fools they have become.

  • wingsnut95

The fall of human civilization begins at our institutions of learning. Until we start teaching future generations how to think instead of what to think, we will slowly and steadily decline into the Abyss. I just hope we as a people realize this before it too late. Teach and educate based on facts, not ideaology. Obviously Norway has some work to do in this area, just as we do here in the United States.

  • Viking

The misleading and generalizing title and the abuse of the flag set the standard for this article. The author was never "boycotted" by Norway. He was boycotted by a few leftists, who, just like in the USA, are all over the universities. In any case, I find this attack on *Norway* somewhat surprising.

  • jgreene

If Norwegians continue to allow these left-wing fascist anti-semites to run their country they will deserve to get the "blow back" of American citizens. SCREW Norway!

There is no reason to put up with this anti-semitic garbage! Norwegians were incredibly brave in their fight against the Nazis during WWII. Now it's time to stand up against the neo-nazis in their goverment.

  • Thor Mikalsen

The Norwegian Leftving goverment is a member of the Muslim Mafia and will introd sharialavs in Norway. The leftving goverment and akademia hate jews, democraty and Israel. The same goverment and akademia love islam, sharia and stoning of women.

  • fnord

Ummm, right. Prof Dershowitz is invited by a far-rightwing christian group, invites himself to three universities, is told that he cant be fit into the schedule, and the whole of the country is anti-semite? Its strange to see a site where open racists like "UMC Sniper" is accepted assert that others are racist. (continues…)

  • fnord

It is true that most of Norway thinks Israel is crazy. A lot of our veterns served in Libanon under the UN, and saw the occupation of that country up close. When Israel got started, we had a romance with it inside socialist circles (we even supplied heavy water for Dimona) but the occupation turned around the attitude. Its true also that there is an element of anti-semitism here, mainly among immigrants and old people of all political stripes.

But that the country being anti-semitic as a whole is a slur wich has been repeated often now as is the recurring lie about the WW2 history: We fought nazism then and we fight it still. 80000 marched against nazism after the murder of a kid called Benjamin 10 years ago. The local jewish community is quite happy, and there isnt any great rush of people leaving for the states, per example. That Dershowitz is pissed off that our universities wouldnt finance his trip (he tried to invite himself to our PM and FM too, the cutzpah!) isnt exactly worth the slurs. Stupid article.

  • A little me

Hi all. I live in Sweden, where media is number 1 anti-israel in the world.
We are ruled in our government by anti-israelis – just as most countries are.

Is a majority of the Swedish people anti-israeli? Well… We have a tradition of being against everyone from next village – when we barely knew the village beyond – we like helping people – as long as others can see it and they are not on our ground. Racism as such flames up in schools, and people are more and more anti-foreigners over all. Especially teenage students. But not everyone.

In every country, you will find people who are pro-Israel, and try to support them the best they can.
Most people have enough with their own issues to actually even care about the conflict down there, being neither against or for Israel.

What I saw in this article, is the same typical thing going on everywhere: those who sit in high positions, are anti-Israel. Well, most of the time, the people under them disagrees with their views.

I've never heard of that gang rape before. As far as I know of, it is not part of any country in the Northern Europe (Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Faroe Islands).

There was single occations here with 12-13 year-olds raping swedish girls (think it was 1 or 2 sucess and 1 fail), but the police immediately stepped in – and if others saw it, they did to, saving that one poor girl.

Haven't heard of it ever happening before nor after.

You who complained about Norway having a King… King is 1. much cheaper for the people and 2. takes more responsibility for a country than any president I've ever heard of – I think because a king is nothing without his country, whereas a president is always a politician, no matter what. 3.leads to more stable economy (people know that the next election won't change that part of the rule).

One thing we need to remember, is that most academics and other rulers, is some kind of politician. he is there because he found his way to the seat. Most are elected one way or another. My teacher of economics once told me, that every really good politician is also a very good liar. What I have noticed, is that they have to be. they give heaps of promises before election and then spend the elected time explaining why that couldn't happen.

It is sad to see what is going on in the world, the leaders causing much harm in every country. But also know, that underneath it is a people – and not all of them agrees.

    Hugs to you all,
    A swedish mother
