The Anti-Semites of Occupy Wall Street

There is a disturbing undercurrent to the current Occupy Wall Street movement.  It isn’t merely its passionate denunciations of capitalism and excuses for corporatism.  It isn’t merely its perverse love for a president who has received more Wall Street money than any candidate in American history, and its hatred for Wall Street itself.

It’s anti-Semitism.

Even as President Obama comes out in support of Occupy Wall Street, more and more Occupy rallies are laced with anti-Semitic signs, placards, and slogans.  In New York, ralliers hold signs reading, “Google: (1) Wall Street Jews; (2) Jewish Billionaires; (3) Jews & Fed Rsrv Bank,”  “Gaza Supports The Occupation of Wall Street,” and shouting ugly canards like “Jews control Wall Street.”  The American Nazi Party is supporting OWS, with leader Rocky Suhayda stating, “Who holds the wealth and power in this country — the Judeo-Capitalists.  Who is therefore the #1 enemy who makes all this filth happen — the Judeo-Capitalists.”

Not everyone occupying Wall Street is an anti-Semite.  But there is far too high a comfort level among those in the movement for anti-Semitism.  If the Tea Party had been even one tenth as laced with racism as the OWS movement is with anti-Semitism, it would have been put out of business by the mainstream press long ago.

The OWS’ complacency with regard to anti-Semitism in its midst finds a mirror in the White House.  President Obama supports OWS wholeheartedly – and why shouldn’t he?  After attempting time and again to force Israel to the negotiating table with terrorists, after using Rahm Emanuel to threaten Israel into concessions by warning that the US would allow Iran to go nuclear, after backing anti-Semitic revolutionaries from Egypt to Libya, after making friends with notorious Jew-haters like Rashid Khalidi and Jeremiah Wright – why shouldn’t Obama extend that open hand to the folks at Occupy Wall Street?

The question is not why the left supports the anti-Semitism at Occupy Wall Street.  The question is why the left seems to support anti-Semitism across the globe.

Europe is a leftist continent – of that there can be little doubt.  Yet anti-Semitism runs rampant through it.  Socialist Spain leads the way in anti-Semitic polling, but countries like France and Austria aren’t far behind.  Britain’s anti-Israel policy is cover for anti-Semitism; Germany’s post-World War II history of stamping out anti-Semitism is beginning to fade into the past.  Crimes against Jews are up across Europe.

In the United States, the left is just as anti-Semitic, if less violent.  Their anti-Zionist rhetoric is certainly a cover for anti-Semitism, since Zionism stands merely for the principle that Jews deserve a state.  The left has no problem with anyone else having a state – Palestinian, Kurd, Tibetan.  When it comes to the Jews, however, they find it respectable to reject out of hand their right to a self-governing homeland.  Opposing specific policies of the Israeli government is not anti-Semitic.  Opposing Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state is.

    They are so thoroughly anti-semitic that they try to smear (as they see it) non Jews as being Jews. I've seen Rupert Murdoch called a Jew, which I'm sure would come as a shock to his Dame Elizabeth, his mother, or Sir Keith, his father.

      What is anti-semitic about stating a fact? Don't Jewish businessmen run the majority of banks and the federal reserve? I don't see a sign that says hurt Jews, kill Jews or hate Jews. That is like calling someone racist for stating that most black people enjoy, grape soda, fried chicken and watermelon. These are merely well-known facts, not hate messages. Get real!

        I would agree with you if we lived in a sane world. The fact is, no one is allowed to point out certain facts. The fact that black people kill more people and at a much higher rate in proportion to their numbers will not get reported. There will be no signs held up stating this. WHY? because the media, their employers, and most people around them will censor them. Just as black flash mobs rob and pillage and post openly bragging on HipHopWorld, everyone else buries their head in their a.. The point is something you seem to be missing. There is a horrible double standard.

            I'm not the one presuming that the "Jewish" view is monolithic. A few years ago, I had a long discussion with a Palestinian emigre (who still has the deed to his family land, and whose grandfather was chased off of it by the Zionist hordes) and a Canadian Jew on a boat off the shore of Australia. Even the Canadian Jew admitted that the Palestinian's family wasn't treated fairly, and that appropriate accommodation should be made.

      I think it says plenty. When kooks showed up at Tea Party rallies, people told them to leave or stood by them with signs that read, "this person does not represent us" So far, I haven't seen anyone of the OWS protesters self policing. Hell, the even allow the nazis in and David Duke.

    Were you aware that there was a Kol Nidre service in the park lead by three rabbis that some 500 Jews attended? Occupy Wall Street has a highly visual Jewish presence and what's even stranger is the mixing of secular Jews with orthodox Jews. I can't speak for other occupations in other cities or other countries but Zuccotti Park is about as Jewish as you can get in a very Jewish city. I suggest making a visit in person.

I mentioned that the three Jews on the Supreme Court (Breyer, Ginsburg, and Kagan, all liberals) are more perilous to my liberties than al-Qaeda, and I got accused of anti-Semitism. The anti-Semitism card is the Jewish version of Godwin's law, as the likelihood of it being played eventually approaches 100%, at which point, all forms of rational discussion cease.

    The association with Reverend Wright and Louis Farrakhan should be all the evidence anyone needs to see where Obama stands on anti-Semitism. His Nazi collaborator mentor, George Soros is Jewish, but is anti-Israel and appears to hate Jews despite his being one. Then there is the fact that Obama is Muslim by birth.

    The left hates capitalism and the Jewish people have a real knack for succeeding in a free market. Never underestimate envy, especially in the mind of people depraved enough to allow their envy to turn to hate.

        Scorp, Go back and read about what caused the banking crisis in the first place. Banks were forced to provide loans to those who were never credit worthy enough to get additional credit anywhere. Those who wrote loans to the credit unworthy were told that as long as someone had credit somewhere, they should write the mortgage. Never, ever were they to ask if the person was ever current on their previous loans or credit. Many recipients of Fannie/Freddie loans never paid a bill on time in their lives. (I had a relative who worked as an independent mortgage writer during this Federal giveaway, he made over $100,000 each year during the required giveaway. He, himself, had the worst credit in the world, and, subsequently, wrote himself a mortgage. He defaulted a long time ago, but he's still living in his house.) Sad, but true, this led to the banking crisis. The useful idiots who participate in OWS should redirect their protests in front of Barney Frank's or Chris Dodd's Washington offices, instead of throwing their feces or carrying anti-Jewish signage.

        I see an economy that has stalled due to the death of the middle class, because the top 1% have rigged the game through the purchase of politicians to the point where the American Dream is extinguished — where corporations are people, but people are not.             I would draw upon the ideas of the Framers. In the Philadelphia Convention George Washington insisted that Congressional districts be limited to 30,000 citizens (as opposed to roughly 800,000; an idea taken from Solon of Athens); this would mean that we had 10,000 Congresscritters, but districts would be so small that (1) modern high-priced media campaigns would not be cost-effective, and (2) even the Koch brothers couldn't buy them all. Couple that with repeal of the 17th Amendment and public financing of Presidential elections, and the oppressive power of money is greatly diminished.

            In Australia and Britain, elections last a few weeks, as opposed to the two-year marathons we are forced to endure. They elect their CEO (the Prime Minister and the Cabinet), and their leaders don't need to become Fortune 500 concerns to run for office.

            Their system works; ours does not.

You do however have a problem with people giving their own money voluntarily to people they want. Then you say you want to get money out of politics, but prefer having public funding, which would force people to contribute through taxation to people they don't want to give money too, kind of like unions do. It would also be just another government fund that would be looted by bureaucrats. Your hypocrisy and lack of cognition are astounding.

      I hate to reply to my own comment but things seem to be getting a bit out of hand. First of all, only 3% of the top 1% are invovled in the financial sector. The rest are either Dr's, lawyers, pro athletes, entertainers and even a number of small to medium sized businesses fall into that bracket. The single entity with biggest finacial impact is the US Government, by far. It isn't any rich person or even the entire mass of rich people. Redistribution will hurt a lot of small businesses which need to earn over a million per year just to stay in business. My original point, however, is that blaming Jews for anything of the sort has to be opposed before this can erupt into something virulent. BTW, a number of rich 1%ers have gone to jail such as Madoff, Enron execs, a Tyco exec, etc. Even Marthat Stewart. Even Leona Helmsly herself. Before then there a number of were inside traders on Wall St who got busted.

Cultural Marxism is the law in Europe now. Israel represents a block to this 'emancipation'. Also it is worth mentioning that some Jews are good with money. In Europe for hundreds of years Jews were banned from all jobs except money lending as Christians were not allowed to. There were also unfair taxes put on them for being Jewish. After hundreds of years of this, you are going to create a people who are brilliant with money and also some who are great at tax avoidance, as in the past they would work out ways to avoid the unfair Jewish taxes.             I'm all for drilling in ANWR, as the Inuit are down with it. Besides, we could get off of foreign oil in ten years if we wanted to, but too many plutocrats (e.g., the Kochs) have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

            Gasoline can be made from wood chips using solar power for about $80/bbl equivalent; hydrogen is an intermediate product. No need to sacrifice our lifestyle to become energy self-sufficient.

            If we were on good terms with the Muslim world today, we wouldn't have to endure body-cavity searches simply to get on an airplane.             I've read, for example, Zinn. His facts are solid. But for every Zinn comes the question of what nation — what gov't — was better at their perspective times in Zinn's telling? Not many.

            That said, I'm glad you mentioned Roosevelt. Righties hate him, which is ironic. He saved capitalism. Hardcore communists had a real shot there before he inoculated the system with a bit of socialism.

            Which, yet more ironically, led to the late-40's and 50's — the era the right looks back on with sickening psuedo-nostalgia.

They didn't migrate by choice, and who they married has no bearing either, so yes they do have a claim to that land, no matter how much European blood they have. And as I have said before, there are plenty of Semitic Jews who did not migrate for whatever reason that still have lived there for thousands of years; you keep intentionally avoiding that fact. I also stated that you don't get to dictate if and when they get their land back. They still have more of a claim to it that the so called, made up ethnic group the Palestinians. Which as I said before, and you will not acknowledge, are not originally from there either. You cannot make a credible, objective argument that the people who are not from there originally have more of a claim to that land than the ancestors of the people who are still there and have been there for centuries. BTW, I'm not Jewish either.

    Where did they get this statement, the wishes of the (presumably non-Jewish) communities….etc.? What Covenant are they referring to? Who authored this piece?

    The Preamble reads in part: "…it being clearly understood that nothing should be done which might prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."

    Even if you believe the Bible, they were. The sons of Abram were Isaac and Ishmael; the sons of Isaac left for Egypt, whereas the sons of Ishmael stayed behind. The Biblical conveyance to Abram was an obvious religious forgery, as the Hittites didn't even exist at the time. Thus, by any metric you choose, the indigenous Palestinians have a superior claim to the land.

    Islam didn't exist back then, so there was no impetus to tear down the Temple of Solomon. Sadly, what happens whenever any expansionist religion takes power happened, but it doesn't change the fact that the Palestinians have a superior historical and moral claim to the land.
