In the aftermath of US President Barack Obama’s May 19 speech on the Middle East, his supporters argued that the policy toward Israel and the Palestinians that Obama outlined in that speech was not anti-Israel. As they presented it, Obama’s assertion that peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians must be based on the 1967 lines with agreed swaps does not mark a substantive departure from the positions adopted by his predecessors in the Oval Office.

But this claim is exposed as a lie by previous administration statements. On November 25, 2009, in response to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s acceptance of Obama’s demand for a 10-month moratorium on Jewish property rights in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, the State Department issued the following statement: “Today’s announcement by the Government of Israel helps move forward toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

We believe that through good-faith negotiations the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements.”

In his speech, Obama stated: “The United States believes… the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states.”

That is, he took “the Palestinian goal” and made it the US’s goal. It is hard to imagine a more radically anti-Israel policy shift than that.

And that wasn’t Obama’s only radically anti-Israel policy shift. Until his May 19 speech, the US agreed with Israel that the issue of borders is only one of many – including the Palestinians’ rejection of Israel’s right to exist, their demand to inundate Israel with millions of foreign Arab immigrants, their demand for control over Israel’s water supply and Jerusalem – that have to be sorted out in negotiations. The joint US-Israeli position was that until all of these issues were resolved, none of them were resolved.

The Palestinians, on the other hand, claim that before they will discuss any of these other issues, Israel has to first agree to accept the indefensible 1967 boundaries as its permanent borders. This position allows the Palestinians to essentially maintain their policy of demanding that Israel make unreciprocated concessions that then serve as the starting point for further unreciprocated concessions.

It is a position that is antithetical to peace. And on May 19, by stipulating that Israel must accept the Palestinian position on borders as a precondition for negotiations, Obama adopted it as US policy.

Since that speech, Obama has taken a series of steps that only reinforce the sense that he is the most hostile US president Israel has ever faced. Indeed, when taken together, these steps raise concern that Obama may actually constitute a grave threat to Israel.

Friday’s Yediot Aharonot reported on the dimensions of the threat Obama may pose to the Jewish state. The paper’s account was based on administration and Congressional sources. The story discussed Obama’s plans to contend with the Palestinian plan to pass a resolution at the UN General Assembly in September endorsing Palestinian statehood in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

According to Yediot, during his meeting with Obama on May 20, Netanyahu argued that in light of the Palestinians’ automatic majority support at the General Assembly, there was no way to avoid the resolution.

Netanyahu reportedly explained that the move would not be a disaster. The General Assembly overwhelmingly endorsed the PLO’s declaration of independence in 1988.

And the sky still hasn’t fallen.

Obama reportedly was unconvinced. For him, it is unacceptable to be in a position of standing alone with Israel voting against the Palestinian resolution. Obama’s distaste for standing with Israel was demonstrated in February when a visibly frustrated US Ambassador Susan Rice was forced by Congressional pressure to veto the Palestinians’ Security Council draft resolution condemning Israel for refusing to prohibit Jews from building in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.

Yediot’s report asserts that Obama refused to brief Netanyahu on the steps his administration is taking to avert such an unpalatable option. What the paper did report was how George Mitchell – Obama’s Middle East envoy until his resignation last week – recommended Obama proceed on this issue.

According to Yediot, Mitchell recommended that Obama work with the Europeans to draft a series of anti-Israel resolutions for the UN Security Council to pass. Among other things, these resolutions, which Mitchell said would be “painful for Israel,” would include an assertion that Jewish building in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria is illegal.

That is, Mitchell recommended that Obama adopt as US policy at the Security Council past Palestinian demands that Congress forced Obama to reject just months ago at the Security Council. The notion is that by doing so, Obama could convince the Palestinians to water down the even more radically anti-Israel positions they are advancing today at the UN General Assembly that Congressional pressure prevents him from supporting.

Since General Assembly resolutions have no legal weight and Security Council resolutions do carry weight, Mitchell’s policy represents the most anti-Israel policy ever raised by a senior US official. Unfortunately Obama’s actions since last week suggest that he has adopted the gist of Mitchell’s policy recommendations.

Of course Obama is hostile to Israel, he always be, he is a muslim after all, it's the leftist jews who can't see that and keep supporting Obama, or maybe they also hate Israel?

  • Democracy First

Formerly left wing , or maybe still left wing, Canadian jews voted Conservative for the first time in last month's elections. Unquestionably, this shift was gratitude towards and support of the Conservatives pro-Israel, pro-rationality policies. Maybe American jews will follow in 2012.

I don't believe Obama is a Muslim. But he does feel an empathy for the Islamic world. Perhaps this blinds him to Israel's reality.

  • jaythehistorian

It is clear what everyone knew for decades. The so-called "American Jewish leadership" are the worst form of traitors. I would not be surprised if they were in some manner bought off not to criticize Obama. Obama and the scum who support him are obviously worried he will lose significant Jewish support. The leader of the democrat party is equal to David Duke in his hatred of Israel and Jews in general. As for the media in Israel, they must be bribed in some manner to avoid criticism of the black Muslim Nazi. I will also say something which is very taboo in the US. Blacks like Obama are given position they have no qualifications for. A white candidate with Obama's record wouldn't have raised 10 cents in a presidential campaign. Yet this incompetent ,racist beast allegedly raised close to $1 billion dollars for the 2008 campaign. Blacks are the by far the most racist group so it is no surprise that the extent of hatred of Israel by Obama is totally unprecedented compared with any prior US President. Obama hatred of Israel is a function of his low level of intelligence. He made the comment "The Palestinians are the most persecuted people in the world". The racist dunce doesn't realize the Palestinian are not a real ethnic group or nation. Despite the incredibly stupidity of the average American , and the extent of white guilt, Obama will lose enough voters who voted for him in 2008 and will be a one term president.

    • ajnn

Let us stick to critisizing policies and personalities and not ethnic groups.

      your posting is unacceptable.

obama is almost as qualified as JFK was. JFK did not complete two terms in the senate and had never held any other office or had any other accomplishment beyond his excellent ww ii record.

      • Steve Markom

ajnn – JFK was a 3 term Congressman before being elected Senator and he was the commander of a PT boat in World War II. Prior to being President Obama never even ran a lemonade stand and we are all now suffering the consequences of electing a completely inexperienced and unqualified person to President.

    • Dennis X

You'd be better off at storm front, where your rasicct ignorant ass belongs. Hope you enjoy another for years of President Obama.

If Mandingo is reelected Israel is toast but don't worry, Jehova will not permit it to happen. Mandingo is about to suffer the greatest landslide defeat in U.S. history not because he hates Israel but because he hates Americans and we know it. He is contemptuous of the country that honored him with its presidency and of its people who he looks down upon as rubes clinging to our guns and bibles and wanting to build a moat around America and fill it with alligators. This country has never had a president so completely contemptuous of it and its people. The 2012 election is not going to be close. He's going to lose all 57 (sic) states. Lift up your hearts Israelis. It's going to be biblical.

  • geez

Evil has a face and it's Barack Hussien Obama. A vote for BHO, is a vote for the devil himself, his actions are undeniable. 2012 is the time to send him and Lurch packing.

    • Dispozovdaburka

He is Nostrodamus's "end of time Anti-Christ."

  • EVABeliever

Abe Foxman is a pseudo-Jew. Liberal Jews are the modern day kapos. I have a cousin that would have Obama's baby if he were a woman. I pray that sanity resurfaces and Nobama is not re-elected.

  • Vernon

When I read the title "Where Obama is Leading Israel," I had to laugh. Obama IS NOT leading Israel anywhere. Perhaps Obamanation will awaken to the real facts of life one day.

  • StephenD

I really don't care if Obama is a Muslim or not. Everything he does is exactly what a Muslim would do. He can call himself a worshiper of old donkey crap and it would not matter one bit. He BEHAVES as a Muslim.

    • ajnn

i think you have hit the 'nail on the head'.

      good posting.

Since there's very little, if any, Jewish leaders in the USA, thank G-D for true leaders/personalities in America like Glenn Beck, John Bolton, Sean Hannity, Dennis Miller, Bill O'Reilly, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, Rep. Alan West, Rep. Rep. Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Donald Trump, Rep. Steny Hoyer, Sen Harry Reid, etc.

The sickest part of the Hard Left crowd is the new Interfaith, Interreligious Movement, funded by the Saudis and the Gulen movement . ONE nation, ONE Sabbath, etc…
There are very few rabbis left — it is now largely a twist of Christianity and Islam. Unfortunately, Jewish Theological Seminary, the "headquarters" of the Conservative Jewish movement in the US, has ramped UP its involvement. Arnold Eisen, Chair of JTS, is a contributer to Michael Lerner's magazine, and Dr. Burton Visotzky is a vocal and active member of both J Street and "Intersections." JTS Donors, are you listening? http://wwwtwosetsofbooks.blogspot.com/2011/05/bon

The American Jewish Establishment is once again failing to help Jews, just as it did during WW2. Not a peep from any of them about Jonathan Pollard's cruel-and-unusual life sentence. Lots of assimilation and intermarriage among them, and very little Torah education and observance.

Barack Husein Obama has a strong affinity for Islam; whether he is a Moslem by sharia law really doesn't matter now. He likely couldn't pass a background check to be an FBI agent, and now he has the nuclear launch codes available to him.

Israel must start doing what's best for its survival and reject more American money.
The U.S. very likely spies on Israel, especially in the Liberated Territories. The next time that such U.S. spies are caught, Israel should use them as bargaining chiops for the immediate release of Jonathan Pollard.

    • Raymond in DC

The US of course *does* spy on Israel, and has for decades. In Kennedy's day they were flying U2's over Dimona. Wikileaks revealed a recent directive to US reps to ferret out info on Israel's communications systems, for example. They also send operatives into the West Bank to report on … Jews building houses! The US installed an X Band radar facility in the Negev under total US control, and US personnel pass on only such intel as it chooses to Israel. Ostensibly watching for Iranian or Syrian missiles, it also watches anything that flies in Israeli airspace. We've also heard stories over the years of those caught spying for the US but, rather than stir the diplomatic waters, were quietly put on a plane home.

Seriously, you didn't *really* think the CIA station in Tel Aviv was only engaged in "intelligence sharing", did you?

  • USMCSniper

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Congress, "For Israel to get the kind of strong support it's looking for vis-a-vis Iran, it can't stay on the sidelines with respect to the Palestinians and the peace efforts." The two issues — Iranian nuclear development and the Israeli-Arab conflict — "go hand in hand." The Obama administration knows this is nonsense. They simply don't care. Their position is clear: America's ally, Israel, is no longer valuable. Sacrificing it in order to win Obama global popularity points is a worthwhile pursuit. The Obama administration offers Israel a choice between being a victim of suicide via territorial concessions to the Palestinian Arabs, or a victim of homicide via Iran. And the Obama administration forces that choice so that the narcissist Obama can smile his phony smile and wave at cheering throngs of Jew-hating maniacs who populate the Muslim world. Obama proved he was an anti semite the first day he took office. The first NON-HEAD-OF-STATE he contacted was Abbas the leader of the Palestinians. Case closed.

  • Steve Markom

The baby boomer American Jews in the USA grew up disconnected from their Jewish heritage and place the Big D (Democratic Party) in front of any true allegience to Israel. To hear what comes out of their mouths (ie Thomas Friedman) is appalling.

As far as Obama, you do not spend 20 years in Jeremiah Wright's Church of Hate without having string anti-Israel convictions. ALL of his foreign policy advisors during his Presidential campaign had well established anti-Israel credentials which placed him apart from all of the other Presidential candidates – even Democrats.

Mitchell's sentiments are also not surprising. As an Arab, Mitchell was never a supporter of Israel while he was a Senator.

That son of a bitch! My firends, we're standing at Weimar 2.0. "Peace, in our time!", the headlines will say. But we all know what's coming; and it isn't peace. If Israel is gone, America is just minutes closer to midnight. We're entering the world of "Dark City", where the night never ends.
The obama Junta must be kicked out of power and its members sent to the "friendly" "palestinians", who'll go cuddly on them and then post it on youtube! Mr muslim enabler number one has already spat on the face of America; now, he kicks Israel in the balls and goes raindancing on its face!
Saul Olinsky would be proud of this anti-American terrorist in chief! God damn it, obama would put Stalin quoting Borat lines about his foreign policies!

We need Mr Allan West in the White House now more than ever. Let him be the Ronald Reagan to this 21st century "Jimmy Carter"

If you have never heard of a young writer by the name of Ben Shapiro, you certainly will. Shapiro has hit the nail on the head with regard to American Jewish apathy. He explains why "…voting for Barack Obama immediately places you in opposition to the Jewish people." There are far too many "JINOs" in our community…follow this link to see how many are in yours (be sure and read both pages): http://townhall.com/columnists/benshapiro/2011/05

Come on, guys, don't you know that Obama is not a Christian, not American, is either Muslim or favours Islam more than Christianity. Couldn't you see that from the very begging? And still you voted for him? Obama, more of a social Muslim than any thing else, is bent on defending Islam against the Jews. How things will play out for Israel is up to the All Mighty. There is no better sanctuary to be in than His courts, especially at this time.

  • Andres de Alamaya

He tipped his hand the minute he took office by getting around Congress with an Executive Order through which he immediately sent the Palestinians $20 million before they even asked. The press and most of America overlooked this. One might joke that he had Osama killed so that he could run for head of Al Qaeda if he gets impeached in America.
