Did Castro Get Kennedy?

Pages: 1 2

Of all the people I interviewed in New Orleans regarding the Kennedy assassination, Carlos Bringuier was the one I trusted most. I could see in his eyes he was always telling me the complete truth.” (Oriana Fallaci, L, Europeo, 1969.)

“That weasel walked into my store and started looking around,” recalls Carlos Bringuier about the afternoon of August 5, 1963. “But I could sense he wasn’t a shopper. Sure enough, after a few minutes of browsing he came up and extended his hand. “Good afternoon,” he said. “I’m Lee Harvey Oswald.”

In 1963 the CIA regarded the Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil (DRE) “the most militant and deeply motivated of all the Cuban exile organizations seeking to oust Castro.” Carlos Bringuier was their representative in New Orleans. It was DRE agents who infiltrated Cuba and brought out the first reports of Soviet missile installations–to the scoffs of everyone from Camelot’s CIA to the State Department’s wizards, to the White House’s Best and Brightest. It took two months for anyone to finally take them seriously. A U-2 flight then confirmed every last detail of what the DRE boys had been risking their lives for months to report.

“Oswald approached me because my name was so often linked to anti-Castro activities in the local (New Orleans) news,” recalls Bringuier. “He even jammed his hand in his pocket and pulled out a roll of bills, offering to contribute to the anti-Castro cause. I was suspicious and declined, but he kept blasting Castro and Communism in very colorful terms the whole time he was in the store. He returned the next day, snarled out a few more anti-Castroisms and dropped off his training manual for the anti-Castro fight, Guidebook for Marines.”

Two days later Bringuier was astounded to spot Oswald a few blocks away from his store distributing Fair Play for Cuba pamphlets. Carlos approached, accepted a pamphlet, ripped it to pieces and a scuffle ensued. The cops arrived, the scuffle made the news, and a few days later Bringuier and Oswald debated on New Orleans radio and TV.

Dozens of books, movies, articles and TV specials depict these events. What they don’t depict is how, between their scuffle and debate, Carlos and a friend Carlos Quiroga turned the tables on Oswald. Posing as a Castro-sympathizer eager to join Oswald’s Fair Play for Cuba Committee, Quiroga (who had not been in the store or involved in the scuffle) visited Oswald at his home and they commiserated for hours. “You read everyplace that Oswald was dumb, a flake, a patsy, a set-up,” says Bringuier. “Nonsense. He was a smooth operator and spoke fluent Russian.”

Quiroga noticed that Oswald’s living room was filled with Fair Play for Cuba Committee literature. From one stack Oswald pulled an application to join the Committee and offered it to Quiroga. Yet during the Warren Commission circus the Fair Play for Cuba Committee repeatedly denied that Oswald had any links with them.

Among the things that caught Quiroga’s eye during his visit was Oswald speaking Russian with his wife and daughter. “Its good practice,” explained Oswald. “I’m studying foreign languages at Tulane University.” He was lying. Also keep in mind the date:  this was 3 months before the assassination. Oswald’s stint in Russia was virtually unknown at the time.

On the very night of Nov. 22rd 1963, Carlos Bringuier went public on American radio and TV: “We don’t know yet if Lee Harvey Oswald is President Kennedy’s assassin. But if he is, then Fidel Castro’s hand is involved in this assassination. ”

Fidel Castro immediately called a press conference to denounce Carlos Bringuier by name and kick off the media disinformation campaign that finally peaked as high comedy with Oliver Stone’s JFK.

“For 15 years of my life at the top of the Soviet bloc intelligence community, I was involved in a world-wide disinformation effort aimed at diverting attention away from the KGB’s involvement with Lee Harvey Oswald. The Kennedy assassination conspiracy was born—and it never died” (Ion Pacepa, the highest ranking intelligence official ever to defect from the Soviet bloc.)

But Carlos Bringuier was on to the disinformation campaign from its very birthday.

Many people wanted Kennedy dead, but did Castor do the killing maybe?

    • BIG IRISH

I have a VERY hard time believing that Castro had anything to do with JFK murder – he may have wanted him dead but I dont think he would be stupid enough to actually plan and execute it – also I have real trouble with Oswald in Havana or Mexico City…Oswald was working at the Book Depository in Dallas for a few months prior to Nov 22 – the recoed shows he did not miss a single day of work – I think there is very strong evidence to suggest an Oswald double…see John Armstrongs Harvey and Lee.

  • Lady_dr

Interesting. Castro killed Kennedy, and what does the Kennedy family do? Everything in their power (when not stoned or drunk) to move America as close to Communism as possible. Think about it.

    • tarleton

      silly woman

      • mlcblog

        ??

    • mlcblog

I observe that, too, in many. I think it is terror producing insanity because of the phenom of having someone in your family assassinated. I see it in other world figures and think it is also part of the reason many Jews kiss the butts of their abusers. Stockholm syndrome of sorts, in my opinion.

  • clarityrising

    Lady,

they tried to move US as close to socialism as possible, not communism. One can still be socialist and hate communists, just look at Spain and Germany in the ’30′s and ’40′s. After all, JFK’s daddy was a Nazi sympathizer.

    • bean

The lines are blurred-semantics is all you have. They are one and the same. Communism is what you get after a couple years of trying the Utopian, but impossible, socialist scheme.

    • Larry

And Bobby Kennedy worked as one of Joe McCarthy's investigators. I'll give credit to the older Kennedys, they weren't communists.

Not too sure about the lady killer, though.

  • tarleton

There's no conspiracy , but Oswald was a truly ''strange bird''…. a real loner , eccentric, odd ball ,fanatic and ''true believer '' in some ways like Hitler was as a young man ….A REAL INDIVIDUAL …the type of nut who would emmigrate to the soviet union during the cold war and TRY to get political asylum in Cuba by travelling to mexico and applying at the cuban embassy in mexico city ….fortunately , the cubans recognised him for what he was …a fanatic and loose cannon and avoided him like the plague

Well known cuban exciles like Mr Fontova may be naturally suspicious of Oswald's cuban antics but there is no conspiracy …it just is what it is …an introvert , loner and nutcase with a ''mission''

    • Eric G

Tarleton, you are correct that Lee Harvey Oswald had similarities to Hitler. Oswald's time in Russia has similarities to Hitler's time in Vienna, hoping to be someone, to be noticed, but always falling short.

      • tarleton

the similarities with hitler are that he was an introvert , a loner and a fanatic …hitler and oswald were essentially religious fanatics in secular form …politics was a religious substitute ..it's hardly surprising that in nov 1918 ,hitler had his messianic moment when recovering from gas blindness

  • tarleton

furthermore , Oswald qualified as a marksman when in the marine corps and from his position in the book depository he was well within range of taking an easy shot at the president with a cheap italian rifle ….no mystery there …it's hardly surprising that he was able to fire 3 shots and hit with 2 of them

    • BIG IRISH

sorry he DID NOT qualify as a marksman in the Marines – cheap italian Manlicker-Carcano with a terribly mounted out of focus scope – his incredible ability to speak fluent russian (his wife thought he WAS russian), ease to get into soviet union – ease to leave – puts him in the "agent" category.

      • tarleton

you've been watching waaaay too many james bond movies

      • Chiggles

As a matter of fact, Oswald qualified as a "sharpshooter", a level ABOVE "marksman". His ability to teach himself Russian shows only that he had an innate ability to learn languages, something some lucky people have. I've encountered a good many of them. Try again.

        • tarleton

I agree, he was a true nut …a real individual

        • aspacia

          Yes!

      • aspacia

Irish, Oswald did qualify as a marksman.

  • mlcblog

    Here's what's weird to me.

The head wound must have entered from the front acc. to first-year medical student knowledge. The entry hole is small and the blast (out the back) is the typical exit wound.

What do we make of this obvious fact which was ignored by the Warren Commission and in fact was the reason they invented their Magic Bullet. So who was in front (probably on the grassy knoll where people were credibly seen being involved) and possibly some more shooters. Maybe Oswald missed.

    Will we ever know?

    • BIG IRISH

and dont forget that ALL the drs and nurses at Parkland saw a small entrance wound in his neck at the level of the tie…it was after they all observed it that the tracheostomy was done for the tube…there was NO exit wound in the neck – even if there was someone on the 6th floor they werent the shooter for that hit….

    • tarleton

you'll never know unless you read it in the national enquirer

    • zbowling

Jim Garrison, the Attorney from NOLA started a new investigation it forced the House Committee on Assassinations to do another investigation. It supersedes the Warren Commission's findings and it did find that there was most likely a conspiracy to kill the president.
He was assigned aids by the Feds that undermined his investigation, and when he died some intelligence agency went through his belongings and took all the material. He was getting read to publish a new book.

  • clarityrising

    Tarelton,

I don’t think the article is questioning Oswald’s role, just that he was being aided by Cuba. And your rebuke of Fontova falls into the same trap as Bringuier when he tried to warn about Cuban missiles- he’s anti-Castro so he’s probably overstating the issue. So, should we disbelieve the Che was a mass-murdering psycho, too, because Fontova says he is? I think there are credible connections, as I am one who has worked in intel for the last 23 years and know that obscure associations a lot of times connects the dots; it is because the actors are trying to keep things under the radar that make them obscure- it is rarely outright. In the world of political intrigue, truth is usually stranger than ficiton.

    • Cuban Refugee

We should believe Che was a mass-murdering psycho not only because Fontova confirms it, but also because there were many witnesses to the assassinations and attendant body count, as well as the grieving families of the many innocents he killed, who have told their stories. Oliver Stone chose to romanticize a demon, and the Warren Commission Report was flawed — too bad, Tarelton, especially for someone who claims to have worked in intelligence for the last 23 years, that you fell for the outright lies and government-sponsored disinformation …

    • tarleton

conspiracy theories are usually the sophistication of the ignorant …putting together 2+2 and coming up with 22 instead of 4…as far as I know there are no conspiracy theories about che …conspiracy mania is never ending

  • StephenD

Who really cares anymore? The Kennedy's are gone. Castro isn't. People in Cuba are still strapping old doors to 55 gal drums and putting their families out to sea. No one is attempting to go there in like manner. I LOVE that Cuba is so close. We couldn't ask for a more perfect precursor of what America will be like if the far left has its way. When the dust settles and Cuba is once again a free society, it will be returned to its glory days as the resort of the Americas. It's too bad it took an entire generation under the thumb so far. That is who I feel for; the oppressed in Cuba. Hopefully, it won't be long and they can breath free again.

NEW INSIGHTS INTO THE PROVIDENTIAL DEATH OF JOHN F. KENNEDY

Click my name to read one of the most unusual articles ever written on the assassination of JFK.

  • BLJ

I have always thought that Castro or maybe the Mob had something to do with it. The Kennedy's were trying to kill Castro and it is possible he got to JFK first. The last thing the U.S Govt or the Kennedy family wanted to come out was the fact that this is what the Kennedy brothers were up to.

Whether Oswald was the lone assassin will never be known. I do believe he was a major player though.

  • tarleton

I'd rather have 2 teeth yanked than listen to conspiracy nutters

    • Maxie

While you're having your teeth pulled think about the fact that the domestic Left have been tying themselves in ever smaller knots trying to hang the JFK assassination on their imagined "vast right wing conspiracy". Recall that this was the era of the John Birch Society. I remember listening/watching the initial news reports which were flagrantly alluding to the Right wing as somehow being responsible. The fact that it wasn't has been stuck like a bone in the Leftist's throat ever since. They havn't stopped choking on the truth of the matter and they never will.

  • Moishe Pupick

    W., 11/23/11 common era

Based on what I have read over the years, I don't think that Castro had anything to do with JFK's assassination; that isn't saying that Castro is a decent man. He isn't; he's a cruel Communist dictator. I don't think that Oswald fired even one shot; he was framed.

I think that V.P. LBJ, Allen Dulles, J. Edgar Hoover, Werner Von Braun, and The Joint Chiefs of Staff all had roles. The Mafia also had a role, but the Mafia can't shut down Pentagon secured telephone lines or take the nuclear launch codes from SAC bombers.

  • Western Spirit

I don't think Castro killed Kennedy, the most likely responsible party was the mob. The mob had helped Kennedy win the election and Bobby Kennedy was going after the mob with a club. So the mob felt betrayed and retaliated.

The killing had the mob's imprint all over it. The culprit was shot by a man who had cancer and had nothing to lose but something to gain, like perhaps money to his loved ones. Thus his death effectively dead ending the investigation.

plus Bobby was grieved because he felt his actions were responsible for his brother's demise.

    • tarleton

      yaaawn …more conspiracy rubbish

  • Marc

I watched a documentary about Lee Harvey Oswald on the History Channel a few weeks ago. The evidence that Oswald was a lone gunman, a trained sniper and that he aimed and assassinated Kennedy from theTexas School Book Depository Building was very credible. The documentary also disproved evidence that any shot could have originated from the grassy knoll.

    • Chiggles

Really? I'm surprised, after all the conspiracy-mongering crap they've put out over the years.

    • aspacia

Yes, I watched this documentary and have discounted the conspiracy's since then.

      1. Why would the Mob hire a communist to do the job?
      2. Oswald was predisposed to murder any capitalist anticommunist who had been influence by communist theory/leaders for years prior to any Kennedy political influence.
      3. JFK was a Cold Warrior and fiscal conservative everything that Oswald hated.

  • Steve Chavez

Hasn't anyone ever looked at LBJ?

My analysis: He didn't like the Kennedy's but surely liked Jackie and wanted her since he knew the affairs JFK and RFK were having. He knew JFK was not a good President and was jealous so he used his Texas pals to plan it out and he's the one who passed on Oswald's name from CIA info and then Oswald's interview on TV, ties to Cuba and Castro who could then be blamed to distract eyes off of him. What connections did LBJ have with Ruby and others in Texas? Why was LBJ in Texas at the same time as JFK? He wanted to be President and organized this plot.

    • tarleton

      TRY TO GROW A MIND

  • Ghostwriter

Years ago,I watched an episode of "Quantum Leap" called 'Lee Harvey Oswald.' It was in response to the movie "JFK" by Oliver Stone. One interesting scene had Sam Beckett who had leaped into the body of Lee Harvey Oswald talking with a Marine who's last name was Bellisario. I found out later that Donald Bellisario, the man who created "Quantum Leap" had run into Oswald a few times when he was in the Marines. He found him a very strange individual. So,he put in a little autobiography into that episode quite possibly, give it more realism.
As to Steve Chavez's claim that LBJ killed JFK,there's no real proof that he has to back up what he says. I've never been a big believer in conspiracy theories. I'm a big believer in proof. Sadly,Mr. Chavez didn't provide any.

  • JackR

I recently heard that JFK was depressed and was attempting suicide during the motorcade.
Oswald was trying to save him by shooting the gun our of his hand. Then everything went terribly wrong.

  • lj32

Read Vincent Bugliosi's work on Oswald and you well know. Repeat know. That Oswals acted alone. Alone. Alone.
A broke assed narcissist whose every motion can be accounted for during the time leading up to the assasination.
The same book covers Ruby as well. A crackpot. Nothing more. Unhinged. His every move accounted fo on that day. There by accident.
You cannot read this book, fully annotated, and believe in any conspiracy whatsoever. At all. Ever again. What a relief for me. It's long but worth it especially given that Mark Lane was on the radio the other night with a fact there and a fact that and a spin and I kne I couldn turn it off without feeling like an intellectual cop out.
Help us out here, David. Surely you read this book? And remain always a hero of mine.

The facts of the assassination are now well know and the Warren Report has been thoroughly discredited. The Bay of Pigs, first led by Nixon as VP under Eisenhower, was a trap to pull President Kennedy into a full-blown war with Cuba and ultimately the Soviet Union. The CIA new it could not work on it's own and expected air cover from Kennedy. His refusal to launch what likely would have become a nuclear catastrophe outraged the warmongers. He fired the heads of the CIA and threatened to dismantle the agency completely.

  • JPWard

Oswald was Navel Intelligence having been trained at a U2 base that was also associated with the CIA. He was taught Russian and was "sheep dipped" as a "Commie." He was on the government payroll, including acting as an FBI informant right up to the end. Everybody thinks it is so wacky to talk of a CIA-Military Intelligence-Mafia alliance, but this also has been well-documented and resulted in the assassinations of scores of democratically elected leaders around the globe. They turned on President Kennedy following the perceived betrayal related to Bay of Pigs, the "failure" to respond militarily to the Cuban missle crisis, and more.

    • zbowling

      Exactly right. He was sheepdipped.
He was a patsy, but working on the inside while they set him up to take the fall.
This group of people are the most credible researchers: Education Forum Apparently LHO thought this kid was in on the secret, that they were infiltrating the left, but the it looks like the kid thought LHO was trying to infiltrate the right!

We may not ever know who pulled the trigger but there is evidence that it's a group of right wing "elites" that sit above the government, and JFK wasn't a left winger. He had Diem installed as president in Vietnam.
This intersects in many places with NATO stay behind armies of operation gladio, the killing Kidnapping of Italian PM Aldo Moro, infiltration of the Red Brigades, The hanging of Roberto Calvi (Gods Banker) 1.6 billion missing, and the death of Pope John Paul I who ordered an audit, P2, Henry Kissinger. The anti-castro cubans and the mafia are used to keep plausible deniability, but there is always blowback. Every wonder why the State Dept comes up with 20 million every year for the cubans in Florida, and swat had to go in with guns to get Elian Gonzales? If you think Cuba was so great search for Batista and read for 10 minutes.

  • JPWard

Kennedy had back channel communications with Castro and Khrushchev and, having faced the reality of nuclear confrontation during the missile crisis, was working towards coexistence with the Communists. This was unacceptable to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the intelligence community. The assassination and the cover-up that followed could not have been possible without participation at the highest level of government. As for the evidence: a large majority of the witnesses at Dealey Plaza reported shots coming from the Grassy Knoll. Police and bystanders can be seen on video running towards this location. Motorcycle policeman riding behind and to the left of the presidential vehicle were splattered with blood and brain matter exiting the rear of the President's head. Jackie is seen climbing on the trunk of the vehicle trying to retrieve a portion of the President's skull that blew off the back of his head. The doctors at Parkland Hospital reported a large exit wound in the back of the head. These facts and more point to at least a second gunman and thus a conspiracy.

  • JPWard

Deniers cry that a conspiracy this big could not have been kept secret this long. News Flash! It hasn't been kept secret! Google JFK assassination and confessions. Many have talked including the CIA's own E. Howard Hunt, also a big player in Nixon's Watergate. (Interestingly, it has been documented that Oswald's killer Jack Ruby, who had mafia ties, once worked for Nixon.) This is not just history. Eisenhower warned of the dangers of a growing military industrial complex and the potential impact on democracy. Truman complained that the CIA, especially the covert actions divisions, went well beyond the intended intelligence gathering function it was created to fulfill.

    • zbowling

Unfortunately that thing which Eisenhower warned us about, he was responsible for the growth of the CIA, and their Executive Action Plan, under which they would remove heads of counties that were left leaning or not business friendly to our interests. They started with 'Operation Success”' where they removed Guatemala President Jacobo Arbenz. It was all down hill from there.
Once we start operating in a lawless and amoral or immoral manner in other countries, those methods, weapons, even ideologies come home to roost because our people learn them.
Even freshwater economics which was a program developed at Harvard by Thomas Friedman to be used on Chile to "make their economy scream."(neo liberals policy). It screamed alright, just like setting a vulture capitalist loose on a business to strip the assets and the available cash, hollowing it out, Wages hit the ditch, and the economy tanks. it usually fails a year later, bankrupt.

Anyway, that is why eisenhower was so disingenuous for saying this. He turned the CIA into a death squad beyond congressional oversight.

  • JPWard

Today the intelligence apparatus continues to grow and there are 15 federal intelligence agencies in addition to the CIA. Today, the CIA even has it's own air force. The result, true to the warnings of Gen. Eisenhower and others, is a war machine that operates well beyond civilian and democratic control.
