Redford’s Weather Underground Whitewash

Pages: 1 2

Earlier this year Robert Redford – former Hollywood heartthrob, founder of the Sundance Institute, and a progressive activist with connections to the leftist puppetmaster George Soros – released his first film as a director since 2007. The Conspirator was his thinly-veiled attack on Bush’s war on terror posing as a docudrama about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Now Redford seems poised to turn the lens of his historical revisionism on a whitewashing of the ‘60s and ‘70s domestic terrorists of the Weather Underground.

In addition to producing, Redford will be doing double duty on The Company You Keep, directing the screenplay adapted from a 2004 novel by Neil Gordon, and also starring as the novel’s protagonist, an ex-Weatherman whose former identity is in danger of being exposed. Still wanted for a deadly bank robbery in his militant past, he goes on the run and reaches out to old comrades. Along the way we are treated, at least in the book version, to the political pontifications and nostalgia of a ’60s radical-turned-academic. Redford’s co-producer on the project, Nicolas Chartier of Voltage Pictures, describes The Company You Keep this way:

This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller about real Americans who stood for their beliefs, thinking they were patriots and defending their country’s ideals against their government.

“Real Americans who stood for their beliefs”? “Patriots”? “Defending their country’s ideals against their government”? What ideals would those be? Proficiency in bomb-making? Penning a “Declaration of a State of War” against America – or as they called it, AmeriKKKa? Advocating the overthrow of capitalism, and killing any “diehard capitalists” who were beyond reform? Launching a race war? Because all of those “ideals” were part of the Weather Underground’s violent and radical agenda. Mr. Chartier has either an edgy sense of humor or a curious interpretation of what constitutes patriotism and our country’s ideals.

As the website The Blaze notes, “some of the WU terrorist group’s most prominent members remain belligerent and unrepentant to this day,” including its co-founder Bernadine Dohrn, who calls the American government “the real terrorist” in this interview from November 2010. Her husband and Weather Underground co-founder Bill Ayers, now a radical academic like his wife, and possibly the model for the central character in The Company You Keep, still has not denounced the group’s violence. “I don’t regret setting bombs,” he famously said in 2001. “I feel we didn’t do enough.”

Redford executive-produced The Motorcycle Diaries in 2004, his cinematic love letter to the young Ché Guevara, who would go on to become Fidel Castro’s cowardly psychopath and communist executioner – or as he is more popularly known, the face that launched a billion T-shirts. FrontPage contributor Humberto Fontova mentions that those who applauded The Motorcycle Diaries

were cheering a film glorifying a man who jailed or exiled most of Cuba’s best writers, poets and independent film-makers while converting Cuba’s press and cinema – at Czech machine-gun point – into propaganda agencies for a Stalinist regime.

The Company You Keep, set to begin shooting in Vancouver in September, looks likely to glorify, or at least attempt to absolve, President Obama’s old friend Ayers as well. And Redford’s other moviemaking efforts as a whole in recent years confirm his left-leaning cinematic messages.

So when will "Destructive Generation" be made into a movie? Or a story about the Ukrainian famine? Or Stalin's Katyn massacre? The list is endless. We're in a period like that of the 30s through the 50s, where the endemic racism in this country was verboten to bring up in movies. Now it's communism.

I used to work in a movie theatre and learned a little about the business. Each ticket sold is a vote. If you buy a ticket to a movie and come out hating it, you have still voted for more of the same, not only from the same people, but others as well. Best to find out what a movie is about before voting for it.

I think Spike Lee is more mainstream than RR.

With a little electoral luck, perhaps the next President, our chief law-enforcement officer, can kick off the prosecution of the surviving members of the Weather Underground coincidentally with the release of this new movie.

Having lived through the time of the Weather People in my early 20s, and having been on the outer fringes of the Weather-PL split, I personally have absolutely no wish to watch a movie about it. First of all, the movie will be mostly lies; second, it was a very dreary, nasty, and upleasant time, and anyone who wants to see a movie in order to remind himself about it, or any neo-hip person who wants to see a movie in the hope of understanding what that time was really like, is deeply misguided and the movie will delude him or her even further.

Only a wealthy, bourgeois, pseudo-bohemian dilettante like Robert Redford would find making a movie about the Weather People a worthy endeavor in these times.

Starting with Obama. What kind of a country permits people who are actively and intentionally destroying our way of life to roam free? If it is legal, the laws must be changed. What have we become when our laws don't prevent our own destruction, no matter the form? Why isn't Soros and all his 'workers' including Redford, in Guantanamo Bay. The Unions, the college professors, the judges, the state department, the commerce department, CIA, FBI, etc. should also be rounded up and put on trial by we, the Americans. We swore to protect the country from our enemies, be they outside our borders or within. How can we tolerate the 'new' police force that enforce laws that our constitution does not permit?

This movie will give expression to the opinion of George Orwell that some people find some truths so disturbing that they have great difficulty accommodating themselves to them and therefore yield to the temptation to lie about them.

Robert Redford making this film reminds me of the essay "Inside The Whale," where Orwell commented on another artist, the poet W.H. Auden, and his poem "Spain." When Auden included in the poem ‘Spain’ the phrase “the necessary murder,” George Orwell declared that “Mr. Auden’s brand of amoralism is possible only if you are the kind of person who is always somewhere else when the trigger is pulled”.

Bill Ayers and the clandestine Marxist Muslim Obama sat together for several years on the board of the Woods Fund, a left-wing Chicago charitable organization. There, they doled out tens of thousands of dollars to such beneficiaries as the Trinity Church (where Obama was a longtime member and where another Obama mentor, Jeremiah Wright, preached a radical, anti-American brand of Black Liberation Theology) and the Arab American Action network (co-founded by Rashid Khalidi, a Yasser Arafat apologist who has supported attacks against Israel and now directs Columbia University's notorious Middle East Institute, founded by Edward Said).

I've never understood why many folks on the right like to quote the uber-socialistic Orwell.
"For some years past I have managed to make the capitalist class pay me several pounds a week for writing books against capitalism. But I do not delude myself that this state of affairs is going to last forever … the only régime which, in the long run, will dare to permit freedom of speech is a Socialist régime. If Fascism triumphs I am finished as a writer – that is to say, finished in my only effective capacity. That of itself would be a sufficient reason for joining a Socialist party."

  • tanstaafl

In the sixties, many of us "peace and love" types thought that the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) were "not cool", the Weathermen were worse and the Weather Underground were killers.

Unfortunately, we all moved to communes to grow organic marijuana. Let's face it, we were young and easily duped. Age does give one perspective and to the college students of today – listen to Pete Townsend's "Won't Get Fooled Again". We were fooled, but there is no reason you should be.

    • tagalog

Then there were those of us who chose to follow the Progressive Labor faction and go out into the working world. We quickly found out what values were important to the working class, and grew up. Weather discovered what values were important to the college graduates, soon to embark on the Long March through the institutions.

BTW, I never lived on a commune. And "true revolutionaries shun drugs."

The way to keep from getting fooled is to get a job. And support yourself. And live among the working people. At least before going to grad school. It would also be a plus to spend a hitch in the armed forces. If you're gonna be a revolutionary, it's a good idea to know small unit tactics, marksmanship, and the nuts and bolts of firearms use.

Robert Redford from a rather humble start has been rewarded for his efforts with all the best the USA has to offer. Like to see him and his bothers and sisters of the same ilk rise to the same heights under the leftist systems they find so dear.

    • Old Timer

He'd rise alright, to his knees with knee pads, taking it in front and back.

Humble start? Robert Redford, son of an accountant, born and raised in Santa Monica, CA, frat boy at the University of Colorado? That Robert Redford? Well, maybe I shouldn't be so cynical; maybe he didn't get to own his personal surfboard and had to wear chinos instead of jeans (or vice-versa) with his Topsiders.

Hollywood movies give their version of American history and culture to our people and to the world. The message stays in the subconscious When people naively ask about why do they hate us, they should look at all the negativity coming out of Hollywood. They present and they represent the worst in our culture.

    • Fred Dawes

And the fun thing is most of the people in hollywood who make the movies are not Americans.

  • Zam

Hollywood is much like Islam in that it is a political movement first and foremost. Plus, a whole lot of the movies that come out of Hollywood these days are very violent–just as Islam is all about violence. On top of that, just as White America is the number one target for Islam, white people are the center of focus for a whole lot of Hollywood movies, too. The only thing is the white people in question in these movies are always crazed murdering redneck types. For instance, think of all the "Friday the 13th" type movies and "Halloween" type movies that have come out of Hollwood.

  • Zam

In all the hundreds and hundreds of movies that have been made that were centered on crazy white people, Hollywood thought of all type of violence to glamorize. For instance, Hollwood had crazy white people with machetes hiding under stairs, crazy white people with saws and swords hiding in deserts, crazy white people with sledge hammers and sulfuric acid hiding in basements, crazy white people with blow torches and bombs hiding in closets, and on and on and on it has been. And these kinds of movies continue to come out by the hundreds each and every year. I wonder if white people are the only ones that watch them, too.

    • Fred Dawes

You mean crazy black people most hollywood movies are black/brown/yellow murder the white boy movies. it is the Red way.

    • johnnywoods

      Very good point Zam.

Just remember: you can say what you want about the Weather Underground and its alleged idealism and alleged courage, but as Mark Rudd approaches retirement and his Social Security years, he does so with several decades of work as a real estate broker behind him. Had Jerry Rubin lived to this day, his Social Security would be based on his income as, OF ALL THINGS, a salesman. Talk about living in the belly of the beast…

Fortunately directors are free to make movies on the subject matter of their choosing and these can be freely shown and seen despite the MPAA cartel’s restrictions and the demands of Abe Foxman to steal final cut. Fortunately people like Mel Gibson and Robert Redford have used their skills and money to circumvent censorship and make movies even when self appointed cultural ministers and the ADL try to limit our choices.

Doug Vogt (PhD) an international expert on scanners and document-imaging software went so far as to file a 22 page CRIMINAL COMPLAINT with the FBI giving irrefutable proof that the document is a FORGERY. Do you guys give a crap? Major General Paul Vallely, a Fox News contributer and highly respected man with reputation had his ex-CIA friends and their analytical associates look at the April 27th document and 10 out of 10 declared the document a FORGERY. Redford will lose a bundle on this movie. That's probably the best repayment he can get for being so stupid as to be a Marxist-Leninist. Speaking of Marx and Lenin, if Redford were alive back in those days, or during the Stalin years, he would have been told what movies to make (if he made any) and would have been jailed and executed if he didn't follow the script, or sent to the mines to grub for Soviet gold.

As an aside, I remember when I matriculated at Indiana University the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) were trying to organize. Maybe twenty or thirty kids became members. Not long after that, perhaps six months later, the organizer for the I.U. SDS was exposed as an FBI spy. Ah, the good old days.

Upon the release of the Motorcycle Diaries film the nurse of Che was poisoned by an accomplice to the murder of Sharon Tate. The Real Daughter was assaulted by this person also, and poisoned and extreme abuse proceeded towards the real daughter and the nurse of Che, the one referred to when Jon Lee Anderson writes cursely, "Che owned his f-k with the nurse". Mr. Robert Redford is literally responsible for not protecting the people who needed to be protected and honored as family in the United States of America. The nurse and real daughter were not contacted to be protected and the World War II Army Nurse Operating room nurse was murdered brutally though tortured slowly while Mr. Robert Redford feels his slight "discomfort" in what he calls a "hornet's nest" while the World War II operating nurse was tortured with poison, groin bruised, robbed of her cats her donkeys, her house her land and her dignity along with the real daughter right here in the United States of America. Assasin teams were sent to the home of the nurse as soon as the release of the film and the daughter was stalked by the car that is known as the Jenner 04 double-homicide murder scene car. Mr. Redford has taught the greatest ignorance of all time, where a film is used to destroy loyal ministers of the United States and Argentina and Cuba. Redford states, "we had to….show it to the family…to get approval…" His ignorance toward the reality of the work of Che has caused the torture and murder of the nurse and the almost to death assault of the real daughter and robbery and hardship that continues and Redford (robert) collects money on the film. A mythical character created by Redford is so appalling in the vivid truth of the loss of life that he has snuffed out through ignorance. The real daughter was shot at over the last weekend, and Mr. Redford has still continued to collect money and shed his ignorance all over the world. The nurse and daughter waited their whole life to be safe enough in the United States of America to reunite with the people they love in Cuba and Redford decided to invent a mythical character to kill the nurse instead. Dreams of my lifetime destroyed overnight and continual hardship because of your mythical character need, Mr. Robert Redford.

One film that nibbled around the subject of what happened to bank-robbing, cop-killing, armored car-hijacking, innocent bystander-shooting radicals was the first of the Die Hard movies, which had a robber villain (Alan Rickman) with high-level motivations who started out as one of those Stalin-emulating revolutionary bank robbers.

Other movies that glamorize the thuggery of the hard Left of that time are A Small Circle of Friends and Between the Lines.
