A Terrorist Returns

Pages: 1 2

After her arrest Berenson defended the MRTA, praising its members as courageous freedom fighters:

I am to be condemned for my concern about the conditions of hunger and misery which exists in this country. Here nobody can deny that in Peru there is much injustice. There is an institutionalized violence that has killed the people’’s finest sons and has condemned children to die of hunger. If it is a crime to worry about the subhuman conditions in which the majority of this population lives, then I will accept my punishment. But this is not a love of violence. This is not to be a criminal terrorist because in the MRTA there are no criminal terrorists. It is a revolutionary movement.

According to the Encyclopedia of Modern Worldwide Extremists and Extremist Groups by Stephen E. Atkins, MRTA raises money for its war against the Peruvian government by kidnapping businessmen and holding them for ransom. It also carries out assassinations, bombings, and ambushes. In 1996 the group stormed the Japanese ambassador’s residence in Lima. After a five month ordeal, 71 hostages were rescued in a commando raid in which all 14 MRTA rebels were killed. MRTA is reportedly responsible for the murders of more than 200 people.

Not surprisingly, Berenson is widely despised in Peru. About 70,000 people were killed or “disappeared” in the 1980s and 1990s during that nation’s struggle against armed insurgents. In the upscale neighborhood in Lima where she now lives, people reportedly come up to Berenson on the street and insult and threaten her.

But it’s only a matter of time before Berenson’s hostility to civilized values makes her a star in the Left’s ever growing constellation of miscreants. Despite her lack of academic credentials, an Ivy League school somewhere will give her tenure.

Perhaps MSNBC will make her an anchor or the Center for American Progress will award her a senior fellowship. A President Ron Paul might even make her U.S. ambassador to Peru.

Is there no legal way to contain this monster?

But thank you for posting her photo and the article – it is good to have it available so that parents who think of sending their children to the university where she ends up speaking, (or teaching God forbid) can think twice.

It will also help to put alums of that university on notice

Trust fund baby no less, I should be so lucky. This is truly a nasty piece of work.

Berenson discussed human rights with Joe Moakley and Jim McGovern; then what did she do? She went to Peru and joined MRTA, and made things worse. The Shining Path
(Sendero Luminoso), the MRTA, and the Sandinistas in Nicaragua–3 brutal terrorist groups that get much of their money through the drug trade. In 1978, the Sandinistas burned down Managua's only synagogue; and chased the remaining Jews out of the country. Not for nothing did President Reagan call Daniel Ortega a "little tinpot dictator."
It wasn't until 1990 that the Sandinistas finally held Democratic elections in Nicaragua, but only because they were forced to. This was because, in return for his help in controlling the drug trade, the President of El Salvador made Ortega agree to free elections. And with the Sendero Luminoso and MRTA in Peru, matters were worse.
Lori Berenson, go back to Peru, and go to h—.

She'd probably have to get in line for a position if this Administration gets 4 more years. They would welcome her with open arms along with all the other rats in hiding. I can see it now, when they no longer have to hide their true agenda because 4 more is all they get (Unless the laws change – which effort wouldn't be past them), so they'll use that time to dig as deep as they can to make a mortal wound on this country which they hate ~ America.

I like how this article isn’t informative at all and Vadum, with his purple shirts is complaining that Berenson had a trust fund. Also he reduces MIT to the home of Noam Chomsky. Right. That’s their primary claim to fame.

She was convicted by a military court and never allowed to confront her accusers. All the Judges were from the military and wore hoods.
She was no angel. She was mixed up with the wrong people but she did not commit any acts of terrorism.

Really Larry? How much do you know about this case? I've been following it for several years. The lovely and gracious Ms. Berenson was intimately involved in all the details of planning terrorist attacks and kidnappings. That's called conspiracy. Ever heard of that term? It's a pretty serious offense. One need not actually complete the act in order to be convicted of conspiracy.

Again, she was intimately involved in the preparation of various terrorist attacks and kidnappings. She did this of her own choosing. She was not taken from her home in the dead of night and spirited off to Peru, where she was brainwashed. We're talking about someone smart enough to get into MIT. There, she became radicalized – her words, not mine – and dropped out to join the fight. She chose her own path.

As for the military court, good for them. That's the proper way to deal with terrorists, not the nonsense of civilian trials. She's lucky she wasn't shot.

The Maoist based Weather Underground co-founder Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, of took part in the 1970 bombing of a city police station that killed a police sergeant. These two should have been executed for this alone. Maybe someone will kill them both I hope. Just a suggestion. heh heh heh heh

Hillary Clinton aided the FMLN with about $12,000 and when the FMLN won the Presidency two years ago, Hillary was the highest ranking U.S. official

Rev. Wright also aided the FMLN and Obama also supported them which is detailed in his (Google) Obama Sundial 1983 article on front groups at Columbia which means he not only sought out "Marxist professors" but the most radical Marxists, beholden to the Soviet KGB's World Peace Council, U.S. Peace Council run by the CPUSA whose goal was the take over of Central America.

There were millions of Americans who aided the FMLN, as well as going on Construction Brigades to Nicaragua, and money was even raised in Churches to aid an ideology that says "There is no god!"

I guess I'm just going to have to grow old and die along with the rest of my embarrassing boomer generation before I'll see an end to these poor, delusional losers parading across our purview like phantoms from a truly bad nightmare that refuses to end, even upon awakening.

Lady, eat your own guilt….don't throw it on my tray.

  • BS77

Berenson….yes, go back to Peru….stay there…..don't come back here.

  • Nicholas Embridge

Lori Berenson should be deported to Cuba or any other country where she can actually enjoy the lifestyle she tried to force upon peruvian citizens. She does not deserve to live comfortably ANYWHERE in the free world. Go to hell you scumbag piece of work terrorist criminal!!!!

  • Ron Carnine

Why is a known terrorist running around in the US? If she was convicted why did the doors of this nation swing open to her? Who paid for her plane ticket and where is she staying? Is anyone monitoring her movements while she is in the US? As a police officer (ret.) I have a hard time with convicted felons being allowed to come back into this country on "spring break". Where is Criminal Justice?

  • oldtimer
