The Sorry State of Immigration

Pages: 1 2

President Obama has also issued a host of “quasi-amnesties,” according to David North of the nonpartisan Center for Immigration Studies. “These creeping, partial amnesties indirectly encourage additional migration, including illegal migration,” he writes. Some of these programs provide taxpayer-funded benefits even to aliens who are facing deportation, North adds.

Would Perry or any of the other Republican presidential candidates do a better job on immigration issues, or would they “grow in office” after being inaugurated? We’ll have to wait and see.

One thing’s for certain, though: America’s immigration system is an incoherent mess – just the way the Left likes it. Highly skilled, self-sufficient workers have to run a gauntlet of onerous regulations while illegal immigrants sneak into the country to gain free taxpayer-provided healthcare, tuition, and housing.

Some leftists are openly contemptuous of the rule of law. They’re not shy about admitting that the Left uses America’s confusing immigration system to promote so-called social justice.

Eliseo Medina, secretary treasurer of the Service Employees International Union, says that boosting immigration levels will help push America further leftward. Immigration “will solidify and expand the progressive coalition for the future,” said Medina who is an honorary chairman of the Democratic Socialists of America (along with Marxists Frances Fox Piven and Cornel West). The purpose of immigration, says Medina, is to “create a governing coalition for the long term, not just for an election cycle.”

Long ago the Left figured out how to use taxpayer resources to promote progressive-left policies. The Democrats’ cherished National Voter Registration Act has allowed many illegals to unofficially participate in the electoral process since President Clinton signed it into law in 1993. The so-called Motor-Voter law was envisioned by Marxists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, who lobbied for it, as a way to swamp voter rolls with ineligible voters and encourage massive voter fraud.

The federal law requires that everyone applying for certain government benefits be given an opportunity to register to vote. Government workers processing claims for public benefits are prohibited even from asking applicants if they are U.S. citizens. Some of these illegals vote.

As I write this article the Obama administration may be planning more made-in-America mayhem by engineering an overhaul of election laws that would make voter fraud by illegal immigrants even easier than it is now. Two weeks ago I reported the disturbing news that attorney Estelle H. Rogers, director of advocacy at ACORN-affiliated Project Vote, visited the White House earlier this year. Rogers, who maintains voter fraud is a figment of Republicans’ collective imagination, met with a senior aide to Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett and with Van Jones’s former chief of staff.

Watchdog group Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Justice Department, demanding copies of all correspondence between department officials and Rogers. Judicial Watch said it is investigating the extent to which the department and Project Vote, Obama’s former employer, “are partnering on a national campaign to use the National Voting Rights Act (NVRA) to register more individuals on public assistance, widely considered a key voting demographic for the Obama 2012 campaign.”

Could illegal aliens, many of whom are dependent on welfare, provide the margin of victory for Obama next year, allowing him to further undermine America’s immigration laws?

And given the policy stances of leading Republicans on immigration matters, does it really make a difference who wins?

Time will tell.

Folks, I am as avid an opponent of illegal immigration as there is…but I also acknowledge that we have 35 million Hispanic-American citizens, millions of whom vote in our elections. Like it or not, Hispanics will be a majority in the USA within 50 years, EVEN if we cut off the illegal immigration spigot…(for those of you in despair, imagine western Europe's fate, where MUSLIMS will comprise the majority within 50 years).

Anglos are aging and dying off by the millions. Hispanics are young and proliferating. Republicans have to reach out to these people if we hope to survive this demographic transformation. We have to develop a multi-layered plan, one that FIRST and FOREMOST seals the border, but then encourages an orderly immigration policy that keeps our farms, factories, and businesses running.

We write off the Hispanic vote at our own peril. Most of these folks share our conservative values, our work ethic, and our entrepreneurial energies. They have basic concerns just like ours, such as the physical security of their children, something undermined by revolving-door justice and YES, borders opened to criminals and terrorists!

Folks, let's be forward-looking. Let us NOT fall into the trap the Dems are setting. Let's make clear that our opposition to illegal immigration is PRINCIPLED, and not in any way based on ethnic bigotry. Let's show inclusiveness when it comes to Hispanic Americans…from the top down. Let's throw a monkey wrench into the Dems electoral strategy by putting a great conservative thinker like Marco Rubio on the ticket in 2012…and beat the hell out of Obama and his liberal minions.

      Ah, the naivete of babes!

First of all, high levels of legal immigration are precisely what drive high levels of illegal immigration. The two go hand in hand because most immigration is driven by family networks. (or popular bureaucratic lingo would have it, "reunification"). Second, a high portion of Hispanics, thankfully, don't vote because they're not citizens and hence not eligible. Not that I would want to give amnesty enthusiasts any ideas here. Third, the notion of Hispanics as bearers of Tradition doesn't hold up to scrutiny — Peter Brimelow, Heather Mac Donald, Mark Krikorian and others have debunked this lovely fiction. And as surveys show, Hispanics are more receptive to amnesty for illegals than non-Hispanics.

As for Marco Rubio as a "great conservative thinker," he's little more than a clever conservative politician. He's not bad by Hispanic standards, but still far from the best.

      • Chezwick_mac

You're certainly free to disregard the Hispanic vote, but the Republicans lost three traditionally conservative states in 2008 – New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada – because of the Hispanic vote.

As for tradition, you obviously must know Hispanics only in the abstract. Those whom I work with and socialize with are devoted to family and traditional values. Almost to a person, they oppose abortion and the gay agenda. They have nothing but contempt for their so-called "community advocates" who are on the other side of these issues.

You are unfortunately correct about the amnesty issue….but I think it a fallacy to believe that immigration is the ONLY issue that resonates with American citizens of Hispanic background. Our job is to reach them with a conservative message that appeals to their values…family, faith, and personal responsibility.

With all due respect, Latinos are NOT destined to be the majority of the US population IF immigration is reduced, illegal aliens are deported and other policy changes are instituted, such as ending birthright citizehship, reducing the number of relatives legal immigrants are allowed to bring here, etc.

Furthermore and frankly, most Caucasian Americans do not want to see this nation become a Spanish speaking, Latinized country, as Latino culture is notorious for it's many "troubles". Ay carumba!

I can even see a coming civil or racial war between Whites and Chicanos in the coming years. Sad but almost inevitiable. That's what happens when the political class allowed half of Mexico and Central America to come here illegally and not enforce the border and immigration laws. It's gonna get ugly.

Mexican Catholics are hisotrically more sexist than American Protestants

    • Chezwick_mac

Well friend, if you actually believe that the US government is going to round up 12 to 20 million illegals and deport them all, them you're living in a fantasy land. You can protest and deny all you want, but Hispanics WILL be a majority in the USA within 50 years. I'm not happy about it, but I'm reconciled top it.

I believe fervently in the survival of the English language…and wholeheartedly endorse English-only government policies. Hispanics can learn English just like every other ethnic group that came before them.

As for Latino culture having its "troubles", it has virtues and defects just like any other. I will point out that Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Costa Rica have – unlike the USA and Europe – booming economies with nowhere near the crushing debt burden than we have. I'm not saying they are better, I'm saying that their culture and their values (unlike Muslims) are fundamentally compatible with our own.

I'm with Stephen D. Seal the border, first and foremost. I would then legislate STIFF fines for businesses that hire illegals. Only then, can we begin the process of formulating an orderly immigration policy, indispensable to keep our economy growing as tens of millions of baby boomers move into retirement and replacement workers are needed.

      • btims

We don't have to round up 20 million illegals. It's quite simple. You deport 1000, then 10,000, then 25, 000 and hundreds of thousands and then millions of others will self-deport, as they fear the law and the lack of (illegal) employment opportunities. As our economy worsens and worsens, under liberal-left policies, more and more Americans will get angry and that doesn't bode well for illegal amigos.

There will likely be a racial/ethnic war before the USA succumbs to "taco-ville". It's still too early but it beckons…….

        • Chezwick_mac

Well, you may want your race war, but I certainly don't.

I reiterate my strong opposition to illegal immigration, but I'm intelligent enough to comprehend that given our anemic fertility rates and our aging population, LEGAL immigration is essential to our survival as a nation. Latin America has a reservoir of people. They are of Christian extraction, are mostly hard-working, family-oriented, socially conservative, and they embrace our culture of tolerance and pluralism.

God help Europe…where their "Latins" are Middle-Eastern and North African Muslims. Their future is bleak indeed.

          • btims

You're just another RINO, "compassionate conservative" and probably of Chicano extraction yourself.

You need to think bigger, since you proclaim that you are "intelligent". ( like Obama is intelligent too, huh?)

The USA was NOT founded on immigration and immigration has only played a small role in the development of the USA, contrary to what you might see on the History Channel or read in a kid's textbook.

Latino greatness? They have horrible academic performance. Horrible gang membership. Atroicious out of wedlock birthrate. Completely lacking in innovation. They sure work hard! Granted, they makde very fine leaf blowers. lol

Round 'em up and ship 'em out. Just like Ike did back in the 1950s. Mexico is a chronic basket case – always has been, always will be. Why? It's the culture, senor'.

          • btims

Not to mention the rabid identity theft and drug peddling committed by those "hard working amigos".

Also, Mr Intelligent, the American people, mostly women, have decided, years ago, to have two children per couple. It is not up to you or Jorge Booosh or Ricardo Perry or Meh-hee-co to decide that we need to grow our population. You idiots are not going to stop until the US population is like China or India. You're sick and need to be stopped because you're either too dumb or too unpatriotic to know what you are doing.

          • Chezwick_mac

My God…your hatred and bigotry are on full display, not to mention your ignorance. For your information, the US IS a nation of immigrants. Where do you think we came from, Sherlock?

Second of all, the demographics don't lie….the US has unfunded liabilities of over $100 trillion in Social Security and Medicaid commitments to retirees. Where is this money going to come from? When Social Security started, we had 16 workers paying in for every retiree receiving payments. Now, we have 2 workers paying in for every retiree. We NEED a labor force.

And no, I'm not Hispanic. I'm just a rational, open-minded person who doesn't despise people because of their ethnicity the way you do.

  • StephenD

It is real simple to my mind. Secure the damn border!
There have been documented over 54 different nationalities that have come across the Mexican/American border ILEGALLY; Many of them from Mid-East countries. WE all know where that is headed. Every successful civilization throughout history maintained clearly defined and controlled borders. There is no other way. "Good fences make for good neighbors."
Secure the border first. THEN we can discuss what to do with those here. Until then, you waste your breath.

  • waterwillows

It is in NO ONE"S best interest to have illegal immigrants in the country.

No group can benefit from it, but all will feel it's disasterous effects. In the end, the illegals and many Hispanics will return to south of the border.

  • Acharya S

Actually, those millions of Mexicans in Southern California are also on STOLEN LAND. I'm sure the real "Native Americans" such as the Chumash, Alliklik, Kitanemuk, Serrano, Gabrielino Luiseno Cahuilla and the Kumeyaay would have been thrilled centuries ago to find hordes of Aztecs in their lands.

So, if whitey needs to go back to Europe, then half of Los Angeles needs to return to Mexico.

  • Brittanicus

Governor of Texas Rick Perry canceled his chance of being President, as he had an insignificant standing on holding back the hordes of illegal aliens. In prior speeches he was more for amnesty than against it and handing out taxpayers money for tuition of illegal immigrant children is not honing the TEA PARTY to support him. The majority of Americans have trusted Politicians like Perry for far too long, good orators in front of crowds, but in actual fact his words are meaningless when it comes to legislating what "The People" really want–such as a real double layer fence across our Southern border–of which he disapproves and is a urgent National Security issue.

In Furtherance to the growing to the concerns over the border fence that President Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano declares “that it’s Secure?” Go to the American Patrol” website, and digest the surveys along the 2000 miles of border. It just doesn’t exist. Type into Google American Patrol and add Fence as keywords and then find out the truth and not exaggerations or lies. Thousands of miles still remain wide open, consisting of decaying rusted fencing. Hundreds of miles are just supplemented with vehicle barriers, which anybody could pass through.

Check and decide for yourself if the borders are controlled on American Patrols full explanatory maps. There are hundreds of miles that federal agents that are even prohibited from the border areas , because of environmental laws that have gone haywire with regulatory policies. Yet the environmentalist remain lock-jawed on the mounds of filth and human effluent left by the thousands of illegal migrants and immigrants who slip through every month, who end up pilfering the taxpayers pockets . I think human life of a rancher comes first before a species of frog or a tiny plant instead of another “political Correct” endangered Species Act..

Only Far superior in worth for Presidency is Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain, as neither are part of the GOP establishment. Bachmann, Cain should address strongly the expensive and social consequences of illegal immigration, which is consuming this nation in balkanization and wrecking American democracy. Both are heavily supported by the TEA PARTY and have exceptional immigration grades, to enforce the laws already on the books. Both are Constitutional Conservatives and believe fully in shrinking government, scrapping the present tax code and returning agencies of government to each individual State. Only the REAL TEA PARTY doesn’t crave the illegal alien votes, or massive influx of cheap labor for overwhelming power or profitable interests.

Don’t believe in the Liberal Progressives, open border and radical organizations that THE TEA PARTY is an opponent of E-Verify as this is a downright lie. The TEA PARTY NATION that is just one of thousands of independent entities, as the TEA PARTY is just commonplace Americans, who have been kicked around too long. The majority of TEA PARTY members are unbending there will be no more Amnesties. No clandestine small Amnesties that have been happening for years, millions entering annually. True TEA PARTY leaders will rescind any Sanctuary City or State policies, with refusal a loss of federal funds.

If you are appalled by the mockery of our immigration laws, reach for that phone and call you’re Representative at 202-224-3121. Don't wait–this is a very powerful E-Verify bill that could help millions of Americans find work, especially in the lower incomes. When 20 million Americans are jobless, being only finding temporary or part time work, this should be not the time for hiring foreign nations. My commentary cannot possibly cover the whole travesties perpetrated on Americans, but all evidence of years of failure, unconcern and corruption is available at NumbersUSA, American Patrol and Judicial Watch. There are just three of the hundreds of serious pro-sovereignty organization, fighting the open border zealots.

This whole thing isn't just causing problems for native-born Americans. It's also causing problems for legal immigrants. They have to go through unnecessary red tape while illegals take advantage of the chaos. Our priorities are skewed. We should be getting in more legals while doing all we can to keep illegals out.

  • Ronald W. Carnine

We are a nation of laws. Once we lose that we are lost for sure. Illegals fail to obey the very first law they encounter so why should they obey any of the other laws. Illegals should be deported, not rewarded. I realize the numbers of law breakers is in the millions but if they want to come to this country then they should go through the process like anyone else.

I don't understand how living here three years, and promising to go to college, somehow demonstrates how dedicated or worthy a person is for fast track citizenship. I want people who illegally entered to demonstrate some gumption and patriotism!
Be proactive, MAKE a fast track citizenship be dependent upon SUCCESSFUL service in our military, nothing less. Somehow demanding to be let in line to get in-state tuition for four years of questionable education seem like something a slacker would do. OH, RIGHT! They are fitting in ALREADY!

    DREAM Act: Stealth Jihad

Radical Islam is terrible. Those who practice it and promote must NEVER be allowed into the USA.

Rick Perry would grant them citizenship and give their children special DREAM Act advantages over Jewish and Christian children of US Citizens- all they need to do is enter ILLEGALLY

Why no media indictment of Perry and Obama’s Open Borders TREASON?

Open Borders ALLOWS TERRORISTS into America

The 9/11 terrorists were ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS

The DREAM Act can not legally be limited to just illegal aliens from Mexico,Guatemala and others who our media seem to believe will behave in a passive manner and assimilate into English speaking culture. The DREAM Act,by law, must extend to the offspring of anyone who comes into our country illegally.

It is a magnet to jihadis from Pakistan and Iran who easily sneak across the Rio Grande .

A US citizen can be killed fighting muslim terrorists in Iraq or Afghanistan and the children of muslim who killed him will receive preference over the American's children.

This is the inescapable logic of Obama,Rick Perry and California Governor Jerry Brown's DREAM Act treachery.

We now have among us illegal aliens that expect to receive wages without paying taxes and they do. They expect virtually all of the entry level employment positions and in massive areas they get that. Many illegals in Maryland are voting. When a young non Hispanic applies for a job and is turned away because of skin color and national origin. I suffered a serious illness and nearly died. I had to wait an extended period of time. The doctor informed me that the delay was due to an influx of illegals seeking treatment for minor illnesses. A good number of illegals who do not pay taxes are believe they have a right to free health care. If an illegal is working off the books officially he is unemployed and can apply for public assistance. I have family that work in construction and the illegals in their companies are actually paid more per hour than the legal employees. They are actually cheaper to employ since benefits are not paid. There is some talk about paying for their retirement with social security funds even though they paid nothing into the system. We need to do away with the priority minority concept. We need to really enforce all the immigration laws. If someone is in our country they need to be deported now and with no other considerations. Illegals kill about 12 people per day. They also violate other laws. In fact there are illegals here that are wanted for serious crimes in their own countries. There are actually home free in most states because local law enforcement is not permitted to research the criminal past of Hispanics in there native country.
