Tom Friedman: Bring Tahrir Square to Jerusalem

Pages: 1 2

This week, Tom Friedman more than earned his keep at The New York Times by essentially calling for the “non-violent” destruction of the Jewish State. I am not exaggerating. Wait until you read exactly what he’s written in his column: “Lessons From Tahrir Square.”

First, Friedman calls for a “Tahrir Square alternative” in terms of the Israel-“Palestine” impasse.

Tahrir Square? Did the man sleep through journalist Lara Logan’s mass gang rape there? Does he view such a mob as “peaceful” or “non-violent?” Does he not understand that the young Egyptian Wael Gonim has, perhaps unintentionally, paved the way for the far more organized Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists to assume power? Does Friedman actually believe that the Islamist factions at war with each other and with their overlords, chieftains, and dictators, are all engaged in “non-violent” social change?

Friedman does not focus on Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh, Libya’s Moammar Qaddafi or Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa —all of whom have been shooting down their own people in cold blood in the streets. He does not call for people of good will to “nonviolently” go and face these evil men down. No. Instead, listen to Friedman’s clarion call. He suggests that we should:

Announce that every Friday from today forward will be ‘Peace Day,’ and have thousands of West Bank Palestinians march nonviolently to Jerusalem, carrying two things — an olive branch in one hand and a sign in Hebrew and Arabic in the other. The sign should say: ‘Two states for two peoples. We, the Palestinian people, offer the Jewish people a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders — with mutually agreed adjustments — including Jerusalem, where the Arabs will control their neighborhoods and the Jews theirs.”

If Palestinians peacefully march to Jerusalem by the thousands every Friday with a clear peace message, it would become a global news event. Every network in the world would be there. Trust me, it would stimulate a real peace debate within Israel — especially if Palestinians invited youth delegations from around the Arab world to join the marches, carrying the Saudi peace initiative in Hebrew and Arabic. Israeli Jews and Arabs should be invited to march as well. Together, the marchers could draw up their own peace maps and upload them onto YouTube as a way of telling their leaders what Egyptian youth said to President Hosni Mubarak: “We’re not going to let you waste another day of our lives with your tired mantras and maneuvering.”

Alright, the man’s a regular Gandhi, hand him his dhoti (loincloth). However, why doesn’t Friedman also call for an international delegation to march to Sderot to serve as human shields against Hamas rockets? Why did he never call for thousands of peaceniks to “nonviolently” board Israeli buses during the heart of the Second Intifada — a new group of Freedom Riders to give innocent Israelis freedom from savage, bloody death? Why doesn’t Friedman call for Western supporters of the Arab Spring to swarm over Syria’s or Libya’s borders holding signs calling for Assad’s and Qaddafi’s ouster?

yes, the reason muslims launch jihad movements (for which keopectate is of little value) is that the word "mosque" in arabic means "place of battle."

    • michiganruth

I'm sorry, but this column is laugh-out-loud funny. the picture of Palestinians carrying signs (in Hebrew!) that say "we offer the Jewish people peace" is so ludicrous that all you CAN do is laugh.

the chance that that would EVER EVER EVER HAPPEN IN A MILLION YEARS is absolutely nil. and if Friedman really believes it, he needs to be locked up somewhere. Tommy boy, don't you realize that if the Arabs were able to say those words, there would ALREADY be peace?

    • Shady

BS, the word mosque in Arabic means a place to "kneel for god" :)

  • jacob

This FRIEDMAN is another GESTAPOWITZ, as were called the Jews that willingly
collaborated with the Nazis against their own people and such an example is , by
    his own admision, GEORGE SOROS…

Perhaps SOROS, then apparently only 14, just gave the Nazis the list of Hungarian
Jews properties he knew of and so the GESTAPOWITZES for their miserable lives
but this bastard doesn't have anybody to fear of for his miserable life as he would if
attacking the Muslims the way he does Israel and Jews, as happened not long ago
in Europe and even in America to Rabbi KAHANE….

Polemize with FRIEDMAN has the same problem dog's poop on the sidewalk has :
if you step on it, you will spread it and get it on you….

    • Neils60

      Jacob, Terrific analysis.

    • WilliamJamesWard

Friedman should wear the dhoti around his head for obious reasons. He is paid
by Soros and is nothing but a propagandist for leftist, jihadist causes, lulling
what is left of Times readers into the false sense of all can be taken care of.
Palestinians do not want a two state answer, they do not want Israel to exist.
Friedman could not miss that point, he is part of the problem not in any way
capable of offering advice to those he sells down the drain…………….William

    • Tim Bus

Will Tom the F bring all the other squares to Israel?
The ones dedicated to Hamas 'heroes', who bludgeoned
jewish children to death, in cold blood.

And to trolling clones (thx Joni Mitchell) of the 'democratic/academic/peace/justice/unionist ilk, THIS is your Hamas, YOUR chosen people 9from Hamas Charter):

      Article 7:[end]
"O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him! This will not apply to the Gharqad, which is a Jewish tree (cited by Bukhari and Muslim)."
[Note there is no geographic limitation to this statute of hate and genocide.
All jews, everywhere, on US Army Bases, University campuses, etc. are all fair game.]

Article 8: The Slogan of the Hamas
"Allah is its goal, the Prophet its model, the Qur'an its Constitution, Jihad its path and death for the case of Allah its most sublime belief."

This is what the pathological left, led by their magic Buraq, worships in the name of something demonstrably evil.

      Some call that Hamasturbation.

      • Tim Bus

        That should be:

        …(from Hamas Charter):…

  • Dispozovdaburka

Does anyone know if Friedman is a new member of the Trilateral Commission?
    (North American Group)
Like Fareed Zakaria, Editor, Newsweek International is a member.

    • Dispozovdaburka

Quote: from The Bilderberg Group by Daniel Estulin
"As an interesting aside, Jim Hoagland, William Safire and Tomas L. Friedman are all Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists as well as member of the Bilderberger-interlocked Council of Foreign Relations."
      I found the answer.

  • rahamine

This FRIEDMAN ! I poop on you and soros you bastards F..U go live with your people in gaza
be part of the flotilla ok I`m waiting for U

  • ze-ev ben jehudah

You know I have heard rumors, way back, that a relative(s)!! by the name of
Friedman was a kapo in one of the camps. If that is so it is logic that he hates
Jews.Kapo's lost their Jewishness along with all the other human values a
man should have.I knew a baker,a few years after the war.Who,while I could here
the fight he had with is daughter, him yelling:if you come home with a Jew i'll
kill you. His name was not Friedman but he came close.

    • ajnn

'Friedman' is a common name and there is no reason to believe that anyone related to Friedman was a collaborator.

Let us stick to talking about Friedman and leave this nonsense to others.

^THIS 'Friedman' is a collaborator and an Arab Kapo. Stick to this guy, there is no need to talk about less reliable gossip.

  • wayne

This is a great idea. I hope Friedman leads the first march at the head of a group of ten thousand Palestinians.

    • ajnn

      Yes.

    • Dispozovdaburka

Perhaps before leading the march he should yell out his name.
      "Follow me my friends!"
Follow me the great Tommy Friedman a journalist from America!
Instead of the Dancing Boys of Afganistan, he could lead the Dancing Boys of Hamas.

  • Bostonian

Like Der Stürmer newspaper in Nazi Germany – founded and published by a war criminal Julius Streicher – the “liberal” New York Times became “de-facto” mouthpiece of propaganda and hate in today’s America. Recent Friedman's article is full of lies and omissions that would make Streicher happy. Since the journalistic ethic and the knowledge of history is clearly NYT’s “weak” point, here’s the quote from the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial judgment against your Godfather (btw, hanged on October 16, 1946 for crimes against humanity):
“…For his 25 years of speaking, writing, and preaching hatred of the Jews, Streicher was widely known as ‘Jew-Baiter Number One.’"
At least Streicher did this out of “animal hated”… well, you’re doing the same because of “liberal ideology”, tons of Saudis’ money and Obama Administration’s political endorsement. Shame on you, The New York Times!

  • BS77

T F's arrogance will not allow him to feel any humility or shame about his idiotic ideas or journalistic garbage. Such are the puffed up liberal talking heads…who are out of touch with reality.

  • Choi

Tom Friedman is what is known as a JEWICIDAL LEFTY.The NYT is the perfect home for him.
There is also a possibility that LEFTY TOM gets $$$$ from "Middle Eastern Sources" to DO WHAT HE DOES.

  • Michael

I agree with Jakob:"Polemize with FRIEDMAN has the same problem dog's poop on the sidewalk has :
if you step on it, you will spread it and get it on you…. "

  • Alfonz Shmedlap

    Th., 05/26/11 common era

Friedman is simply one more example of a useful idiot infidel whom "Allah" would just as soon kill as not. I wonder what he had to say about the beheading of Nicholas Berg
or the slaughter of the 5 members of the Fogel family in their beds at night.

And the sign will always say, and then pigs will fly, and the check will be in the mail, and women will think that size doesn't matter, and man will not care about big boobs, and no dog will die -they'll just go to a special farm. and lawyers will not over-bill, and Ahhnold will keep it in his pants and…

I don't know in which world that Friedman guy lives, but it's not earth.

  • Yetwave

There must be some brain cell destroying enzyme in the water in the Minneapolis neighborhood where the liberal Jewish troika of Friedman, Al Franken and the late Paul Wellstone grew up.
Churchill's definition of an appeaser as "One who feeds a crocodile hoping it will eat him last " is apprpriate to describe these guys.

  • Trevor

How about having a Tahir square protest at Tom Friedman's office at the NY Times every Friday.

  • RCCA

Doesn't Friedman know that they are already having non-violent demonstrations? Crashing border fences and rock throwing are considered non-violent in Palestinian demonstrations.

I'd love to see Friedman take his suggestion personally to these people and see how they respond. They'd probably pick him up and bash his head into the ground.

    • Rosner

I think its very unfortunate that Mr. Friedman is taking the position that he does. I strongly believe that he does not understand the dynamics of what is going on in Israel or in the Palestinian territories. After reading a number of books by female Lebanese and Egyptian authors , eg., Darwish….it is remarkable that anyone, regardless of faith or conviction could support any group that denies the right of
another group to live or exist…..or any group that lives outside the bounds and rights
      of a democratic society.

      .

  • LindaRivera

Friedman is is very nasty deceiver. As a media person, he knows that the totalitarian, religious/political system of Islam considers its ideology and its adherents superior to everything and everyone else on earth and that jihad is an obligation in the Koran. Friedman has to know that the Koran commands Muslims to show no mercy to despised non-Muslims and to conquer all nations and peoples .

Does Friedman believe that all non-Muslims nations should also submit, and surrender to Islam half their nations and capitals. If not, why does he demand Israel surrender to cruel global jihad?

And yes, Friedman should definitely move to Sderot and experience the "peace" of Islam's rockets.

  • g_jochnowitz

    Friedman is indeed another Gandhi.
Mahatma Gandhi was an anti-Semite. We think of him as peaceful and benevolent because he advocated satyagraha, which is passive, non-violent resistance. It worked against the British in India. Does that mean it is always appropriate? In an article in the November 26, 1938 issue of a magazine called Harijan, Gandhi suggested that Germany’s Jews could successfully confront their Nazi oppressors with non-violence. Well, this was 1938. World War II had not yet begun. If we wish to excuse Gandhi on the grounds that he didn’t know what he was talking about, since he was writing before Hitler’s plans were known, we should also consider that he told Louis Fischer, one of his biographers, after the war was over, that “collective suicide” might have been a better strategy: “The Jews died anyway, didn’t they? They might as well have died significantly” (see “The Gandhi Nobody Knows” by Richard Grenier, Commentary, March 1983). Collective suicide is not satyagraha, since it is in no way passive. And how passive can one be about one’s children when committing collective suicide? Gandhi never advocated collective suicide in any other situation.

    • sodacrackers

Jim Jones led his followers (nearly 1,000) in a "collective" suicide. He was not a religious nut; he was a communist. There is no such thing as "collective salvation." It would be better for the deceivers in the media and in government had they never been born.

  • g_jochnowitz

My analysis of Gandhi, above, is part of my essay on the universality of anti-Semitism. http://www.jochnowitz.net/Essays/AntiSemitism.htm

Freedom of speech allows traitors freedom to spew obfuscating information
and ideas as enlightened truth. There are many Friedman's, thousands
would take his place in a NY second. If we wonder why, well it is no mystery,
Communist, Leftist, Jihadist government schools are turning out continuous
graduating classes of brainwashed and indoctrinated people to hate America
and all of the freedoms we have. Friedman is a prime example of what will
infest our future unless we turn him and all leftists out, revoke their
citizenship and deport them to some Jihadist nervana. What do you think,
Friedman would do well in Cairo? Teheran? Moscow is more like it or maybe
    Hanoi………………………………………………………………………………………………William

    • sodacrackers

      Well said, William.

Despicable is right. Both the newspaper and Friedman. But the paper is a much bigger danger to Israel and to freedom of expression in this country because it employs many Friedmans. Its perfidious character is not news. At the time of the Holocaust, when they could have shouted about the atrocities from their front pages, they decided to be very muted. So what can you expect from THe New York Times? Pity that they still have readers, many Jews among them. I wish something would jolt them out of this stupor. Something, though, that would not be to the detriment of other Jews.

  • James

It's astonishing that anyone here can compare Friedman to the SS or Nazis.

Yes, Friedman's liberal. But he's Jewish, and has lived in Israel for years. He's covered more atrocities by Arab governments against their own people than anyone in the comments so far has even shown knowledge of. He's witnessed Palestinians blowing each other up in person; he's quite familiar with the violence. I don't always agree with him, but I recognize at least that a man who sometimes criticizes Israel, or sides with a Palestinian, is not of necessity someone who wants to put all Jews in gas chambers.

That kind of equivalency is a sign that no one is thinking clearly anymore, period. For shame.

(Incidentally, to Ms. Chesler, though I'm not in full agreement with the article, I'm a big fan.)

  • Daryl

What I want to know is by what reasoning does the world consider it acceptable for Jews the world over to be uprooted from their communities by force and to emigrate to Israel, but the "palesttinians' can't be expected to move 40 kilometres into Jordan, or absorbed into one of the other 57 vast islamic nations.

George Stein said it best when he said, "Israel's message to Jews is – if your children need to run, they now have somewhere to run to."

As God is my witness Jews have been in dire need of somewhere to run to these past two thousand years.

What prevents the islamic nations from offering this same kind of unconditional sanctuary to their muslim brethern, the 'palestinians'?
