Iraq’s Christians Near Extinction

A recent Fox News report tells of how “a rash of attacks on Christian-owned businesses in northern Iraq has raised troubling questions about the future safety of the country’s shrinking Christian community, particularly as U.S. forces withdraw completely from the nation they’ve refereed since 2003.”

In fact, “questions about the future safety of the country’s shrinking Christian community”  have been raised ever since the U.S. toppled secular strongman Saddam Hussein, thereby unloosing the forces of jihad previously corked.  The report continues:

The attacks, which have received little international attention, raged through northern cities following a sermon last Friday by a local mullah. Video purportedly from the riots posted online shows mobs burning and wrecking businesses, which included liquor stores, hotels and hair salons.

Note the two important facts here that play over and over whenever Christians are persecuted under Islam: 1) Despite their frequency and severity, they “receive little international attention” (indeed, only the most spectacular of terrorist attacks on Christians—such as the 2010 Baghdad church attack which left some 60 dead—ever receive mainstream media attention); and 2) as usual, the attacks followed “a sermon last Friday by a local mullah” (in other words, are Islamic in nature).

As if the situation wasn’t bad enough, after pointing out that “Iraqi Christians … are living in fear,” U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf said:

“Now with the [U.S.] forces leaving … I think the Iraqi Christians are going to go through a very, very difficult time.” … He urged the Obama administration to do more to speak up on the issue.   “They know this is a problem. Our government ought to be advocating and ought to be pushing.”

It ought to, but it’s not.   After calling the U.S. government’s silence concerning the blatant persecution of Iraq’s Christians “disturbing,” the founder of the Iraqi Christian Relief Council added: “We’re on the verge of extinction.”

@River to River – Couldn't have said it better myself!

@Randy – Christians may have a history of persecuting others and imperialism (they even persecuted people of my own faith, but that is ancient history for the most part nowadays). You seem to be missing the point here if I may say so – we are in the midst of witnessing the persecution of a minority group in Iraq, also in Egypt and other countries, in which THE GROUP IN QUESTION SERIOUSLY RISKS BEING WIPED OUT BY MARAUDING INTOLERANT, IMPERIALIST JIHADISTS WHO WOULD ALSO WIPE OUT YOU AND YOUR FREEDOMS TOO IF THEY COULD!!! Banging on about the Christian treatment of Native Americans in the past, bad as that might be in many ways, is really not helping the matter…

However, if you're ok with standing by and watching whilst Iraqi and Egyptian Christians are beaten to death and have their places of worship burned, without making any statement of disapproval (you've more or less intimated that you think it's ok, because SOME Christians did SOME bad things in the past), then I'm rather afraid that you are as morally bankrupt as your post makes you sound.

Muslims commit their crimes against humanity at the behest and command of their evil founder, Muhammad. These crimes include mass murder, rape, maiming and on and on.This evil can be directly attributed to Muhammad and his wicked ideology. Why? Because according to the Islamic texts, Muhammad commited these evil deeds himself and not only calls upon but commands ALL Muslims to do the same.

NOBODY ever commited these crimes in the name of Jesus Christ. EVER. There is NO place in Christ's teachings,or deeds that says Jesus Christ ever condones or encourages this kind of behavior, He condems it!

The attacks against Christianity are repulsive. I've also noticed that the anti Christian crowd are the first to run and embrace the evil of Islam,

    • Alvaro

Well put. But as always the politicians who ousted a dictator who without a doubt was repressive, but at the same time protective of the christian minority, are also to blame. (Tariq Aziz was also a Christian.) Decapitating secular Arab nationalism was idiotic – not it's theocracy all the way and a one way ticket back to year 700.

It is just the same with the relationship with Pakistan. Good money thrown to a hostile nation that even designed the Taliban to gain control in Kashmir, not to mention their sheltering of Osama bin Laden.

And the whole view of the Middle East: Anyone with more than two brain cells should be able to understand that the "democratic" revolutions of the Arab Spring would end with (not very democratic) islamists in charge.

If monkeys had to choose between two possible options, they would probably pick the right one in half of the cases. Western politicians and doing almost everything wrong in almost all cases concerning Islamic nations, because they seem to be completely and utter clueless about what and who they are dealing with.

"All Christian religions should be shut down."

So make it happen, little boy.

  • crackerjack

Hypocricy of the top level………………..This is exactly what the critics of Bush's desaster war predicted. As we remember, Horowitz, Pipes, Spencer, Glick and the rest drummed for were over exited with the Iraq invasion and Glick joined the troops as "embeded reporter" as they "freed" Iraq. The Iraq Christians will sure be full of gratitude. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced..

To think that the same figures are now pushing for war against Iran…………………we need a int. criminal court for people who intice and support war.

    • Stephen_Brady

"We" do not need an international criminal court. If you can defeat us, then you can try our leaders. It's what victors have done from time immemorial. But until you've defeated us … too bad, so sad.

      • crackerjack

…yes, very sad for Iraq's Christians.

  • koran kid

Secular authoritarianism and religious totalitarianism. Perfect study for chicken and egg theorists. Can someone tell me which causes which, or what causes what? How to break out of this cycle of doom? What about back to basics in war? If we're going to go in, make rescue the women and take control of the resources the priority. Square meals, a decent education for the kidz, a local coiffure that does manicure pedicure, some shopping malls, and real men who deliver the goods in and out of the sack. In other words, let the modern victors claim the spoils. And leave the charity workers and left wingers to run the social services at home, and pamper to the weak and needy. That would see the bravest and best rewarded for their endeavours, while the whining cowards and hypocrites are left with Mummy and Daddy, and Crackerjack. That would be progressive!

  • Stephen_Brady

The Christian faith thrives on persecution, so, if you want more Christians, just persecute us! Come on! Dare ya'!

America's EXTREME CRUELTY to Christians DID NOT start with Obama. Iraq's Christians were ruthlessly disarmed by America rendering Christians defenseless prey for barbaric Muslim killers.

A war against Muslim terrorists? NEVER. It has always been, and still is, a
WAR AGAINST CHRISTIANS. The question is, when will the war against Christians (and Jews), come to America?

Last week, in a three day, closed to the public conference, Clinton met with the OIC (Organization of Islamic Conference) and others, to work out plans to CRIMINALIZE the defamation of religion (Islam). If, and when, this becomes law, this country will have been conquered by Islam at the invitation of the Clinton/Obama administration.

FRONTPAGEMAG: The Plight of Christians in Iraq By: Jamie Glazov
    FrontPageMagazine.com | Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Murray: More than half of the Christian population has been forced to flee their homes in Iraq because of Islamic violence against them. Their churches have been burned and bombed.

The official position of the Administration has been that “Coalition Forces assisting the Christians would cause them to be identified with the United States and have even more problems.” As a result they receive no assistance in defending themselves at all.

Immediately after the American invasion of Iraq, the Christian militias were disarmed. They were the only militias to be disarmed. American forces allowed both the Sunnis and Shiites to keep their armed militias.

Christians first fled from Baghdad to the Nineveh Plains, and then to Jordan and Syria. In Jordan and Syria the American embassies told Iraqi refugees to go to the United Nations because their plight “was not an American problem.” Excuse me?

Meanwhile the official position of the State Department under Condi Rice is that Christians are harassed by “criminal elements” in Iraq and that no persecution exists. That attitude has caused even greater persecution and led our embassies and other nations to be unhelpful. http://archive.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?…

Islamist scum have been attacking Christians and Jews wherever they are in areas controlled by Islamist scum. IslamoFascists everywhere should be left to their own destructive pathologies and we should allow immigration of Christians from these 7th Century Barbaric nations.

  • http://libertyandculture.blogspot.com/ JasonPappas

"Christians are being refused refugee status [in the U.S.] and face persecution and many times certain death for their religious beliefs under Sharia, while whole Muslim communities are entering the U.S. by the tens of thousands per month despite the fact that they face no religious persecution."

It's clear that Obama has an immigration policy that puts Muslims at the head of the line. So much for his being a Christian.

  • muchiboy

And while we're at it,we should allow the Palestinian people, victims of Israeli/Jewish occupation/aggression and ethnic cleansing, into our countries,as well as the Christian victims of Muslim Fundamentalists.Fair is fair.muchiboy

  • LindaRivera

    To muchiboy,

Jews are attacked, maimed and murdered by Muslims for the sole reason Jews are not Muslims. Attacked and murdered for living, breathing and building in the world famous BIBLICAL Jewish homeland of Judea, Samaria and all Israel.

Palestinian Authority Muslims engage in daily rock throwing jihad at hated Jewish infidels. The Jewish citizens of Sderot and other Israeli citizens live in daily terror of Islam's thousands of rocket attacks on their cities. No human beings should have to live in daily terror because they are not Muslims!

  • thrushjz

Ya, While you sit in the comfort of your home, safe, until Muslims take over this Country. Then they will kill you as well. Stupid is as stupid does.

  • SOri

Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that one does not actually have.[1] Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie.[1]
Hypocrisy is not simply failing to practice those virtues that one preaches.

Maybe the prediction for 2012 is the fall of Christianity. More and more there are atrocities by your clergy and "ROMAN" conquering leaders to subjugate people under their thumbs. Most of us [FROM ASIA] will never follow a blood thirsty evil religion like Christianity…. We are mostly heading towards a faceless, sexless, boundless universal source that is simply the UNIVERSE. NO man to write stupid laws, NO Clergy to Smite us, No EVIL Crusaders to force us to drink their COOL-AID. The children of today will not take stupid explanations. The more you force them to the more they will run to Hinduism, Buddhism, Druid-Celticism, etc etc…. I see the world is going back to equilibrium… a sense of peace that was there before the marauders UNHOLY christians.
END OF TIMES IS INDEED UPON THE HOUSE OF DAVID.

  • textsincontext

How sad that one of the oldest Christian populations in the world may become extinct. Christians should remember those evangelical leaders who endorsed the war and be clear in our minds that war is not Christ's way. http://www.facebook.com/christian.pacifism.3?ref=

    • getthefacts

so let me get this straight… your name is "texts in context" however you apparently dont even read the "texts"…. jesus is coming back to wage war, war is not the christians way, he came and modled that for us however like i said he is coming back to wage war and destroy the rulers of the earth.

  • divinelogic

According to nearly all religions, God is omnipotent which means God can do anything.
    Consider this:
Can God make God not exist?
Can God make an object that cannot be moved by God?

Christians believe their God is omniscient and knows everything, including everything that has happened and will happen, as well as every thought your mind creates before you think it. If that's the case, there is no "free will."
They also believe their God is omnipotent, and can do anything. Problem is, if their God can do anything but doesn't lift a finger to stop all the disasters, massacres and wars that have happened, are happening now and will happen in the future, their God is also a psychopath who enjoys watching our misery.[3]
However, if the Christian God is not omniscient or omnipotent… well, in that case their God is not a "god" and doesn't exist.

  • divinelogic

I am sure there are lots of closet atheists in the M.E forced to follow some belief or other.
How could any sane person believe in God when children are used as suicide bombers in Allahs name.
    Wake up people!
We don`t need God! We don`t need heaven or hell! There is no universal good or evil! Good and evil are relative.
All we need is each other to solve our problems.
We are a collective & our connections are equivalent to the synapses of a higher being. No need for God.
We should be living our lives as if there is no afterlife in any case.
Your life maybe recorded in your dna and is certainly recorded by the collective.
Part of you will live on in your children and the collective. No afterlife is required!
This means that we should find our own meaning in life.

  • divinelogic

The meaning of life is to survive.
To survive is to pass on information about you or similar.
    Information means dna or thoughts.
Everyone`s dna is very similar so reproduction doesn`t have to your goal in life.
The most important thing you can do is to make a difference to those closest to you.
The survival of those closest to you means that part of you will survive.
Closest to you are your family, friends and like minds.
Do what is best for you and best for as many people as possible.
Treat people well, make them depend on you and they will treat you well.

    Have some faith in Science.
All that is needed is a shared goal that will improve the survival of those who participate.
We need to settle our differences before doomsday is upon us.
There are numerous threats to our existence like Climate change, Asteroids, Economic ruin, Energy & resource depletion, Over population, Quakes, Supervolcanoes, Tsnamis, Storms, Solar Storms , Disease, Mutually Assured Destruction….etc

Agreed abosutely! I'm no Christian but I am shocked and appalled at how these people are being treated in Iraq, Egypt and Iran etc. I'm particularly worried also about the plight of the Egyptian Copts – I'm convinced these people are slated for extermination (literally!) and they need to get to safety NOW!

  • Jim

I agree also. People should demand of their ministers admission of these targeted peoples especially since they are achievers. I do not see them spying for the Islamic regimes as some other groups.have spied for their former countries.
